1. strategy or spasm?
Joe ,   Allentown, US   (08.01.06)
Israel declares a cease fire yesterday; now Olmert makes a "clear statement" that there will be no cease fire. Nevertheless, according to another ynet article, there HAS been a "suspension of the air war." Now, the cabinet is telling the world that the ground invasion will be expanded. That's brilliant. Tell the enemy what you're going to do, so there's no surprise. Maybe if the "cease fire"/"suspension" was a strategy, a ground invasion could have been a surprise afterwards. Not now. No surprise at all. Israel is just flailing around, with only part of its military, in a war for its survival? Why?

5. War
Ben Avrahom ,   Jerusalem   (08.01.06)
This is a terrible situation - to be a country at war with all it entails - destruction, death, horror and a bottomless pit of misery for some poor wretches. I think we should have consderable respect for the israeli government and, in partciular, the Prime Minister. He seems to be leading from the front and appears to be dealing with the life and death issues in the most responsible way. Klal Yisrael has been truly blessed. Thankfully we are still only fighting a limited war with the practical goal of a quiet Lebanese border. Are Syria and Iran going to become directly involved? The next 2 to 3 days will probably be critical. Maybe its better if its all sorted out now? If you are into prayer, this seems like a good time to participate. This includes our moslem friends - many of them really have got to sort their lives out PDQ!

8. Time lost
Jorge Banner ,   Bs.As.,Argentina   (08.01.06)
How much of the total time Israel had to carry out the war has been lost? 90%? How many a time does somebody have to say that only a decisive victory by Israel is an acceptable outcome if Israel wants to have a future? Israel should have won a quick, decisive and overwhelming victory over Hezbollah. We’ve had none of that. That spells no win. No win for Israel means win for Nasrallah. As someone who is 100% on the side of the Israelis I can’t fail to express my profound disgust. The world as a whole can’t understand this apologetic, indecisive and weak Israel. And since Israel has all the technological and manpower needs to have had a decisive victory the present failure can only come as the result of lack of moral resolve. Congratulations to whoever is responsible. In other words, this is called “surrender”. I wouldn’t have expected this. Any other outcome, but unilateral surrender. And I can hear the Americans amongst themselves: “we gave the Israelis the means, the time and the support they never had before and what do they do with it? they go and manage to fail. In 1948, when they had almost nothing, they won, almost with their bare hands and against the armies of several arab countries. In 2006, when they have everything, they surrender to a band of unhygienic ragheads”.

16. Enought Talking. Just Bring Back Victory
Adina kutnicki ,   US   (08.01.06)
After all the ditthering and blathering from the regime, it is about time that a massive ground force went in. Afterall, if the goal is victory, it cannot be achieved without ground forces. The air force should pave the way, let the boots on the ground do their work, and then the air force can mop up. No war is won on the cheap, and no war is won by telling the enemy of your plans!

trap. We don't have to see every detail of the achievements, but the coverage in this website and a few others has been just enough to see progress. It's good to see the progress the ID, IAF and Gov't are making.

Iran already is involved. Lebanon today is the Spain of 1939, the testing ground of the Nazis. Germany learned a great deal about Western resolve and how far they could go during the Spanish "civil" war. As any Israeli can tell you, they learned one hell of a lot. The real question to me is whether the kumbayah, peace loving non leaders that compose the current compromise Israeli government has the baytzeem to squarely face the reality of this test situation. A lot of Jews died because of the events in a small country in 1939. Many more can die during the current analogous situation. The call for the 48hr air moritorium was an Israeli white flag and don't think otherwise. I would REALLY love to know who pulled the flag down: a Cabinate member? George Bush? Bibi? And finally, #2, if real, speaks mountains!
24. Security? Cabinet meeting
alan ,   auburn, usa   (08.01.06)
Why the H_ _ L are we able to read this? What kind of war is Israel fighting when its civilian decision making apparatus leaks or proudly informs (updates) the media on each and every decision taken by its so-called security cabinet. Its one thing to alert civilians in target areas ahead of time, wholly another to discuss the army's upcoming plans. Where is the sense in this?
25. Israel can't swallow its ego?
Maya ,   Utah, US   (08.01.06)
Israel government is scarifying soldiers’ lives just because they don’t wanna admit the reality that they lost this war… Ego? STOP THE BLOODSHED PLEASE, WOULD YOU!!!!!!!
26. Let's Not Lose Sight of the REAL Issue Here
Mark Jabes ,   Macon, Georgia, USA   (08.01.06)
Okay, I agree that Hizbullah fired the first shots. But out of the blue? Israel's earlier occupation of southern Lebanon; its continued occupation of the Golan Heights; its occupation and partial settlement of the West Bank and gradual clearance of Jerusalem; its shelling of civilians, power plants, bridges and pipelines in Gaza; its beating and shooting of children; its imprisonment or assassination of Palestinian political leaders; its bulldozing of homes; its humiliating and often lethal checkpoints: all these are, in Bush's mind, either fictional or carry no political consequences.
