31. Talking to Iran? Yes, the Devil is listening
Mike ,   Israel   (08.02.06)
Ephraim Halevy, a former Mossad chief, says 'Time to talk to Iran'. And he is an intelligent man. So how will this conversation go? "Mr Ahmadinejad, Can I talk to you?" "Of course, my son!" "Israel would like to find a way to live peacefully with Iran." "I want Israel destroyed and all the Jews gone!!" "But you don't understand, honored president Ahmadinejad, we simply want peace." "I want Israel eliminated, wiped off the face of this earth, and all you Jews evaporated. Got it?" Yes, Ephraim, this is only kind of conversation you can have with Iran today.
32. Ynet is really just a freudian slip? or the whole dress?
sally forth ,   Jerusalem of course   (08.02.06)
I have cut and past the following from your article: "Two monts ago Iran scored an impressive victory: On May 31 Secretary of State Rice announced a dramatic shit in US policy towards Iran, and reversed a 25-year-old boycott of Tehran." Was it your editor's intention to write "dramatic shit" or was it your editor's intension to write "dramatic shift"? just windering! :)
33. So talking doesn't work
Tanja ,   Germany   (08.03.06)
then I guess you have no choice but to bomb Iran next...oh, and Syria of course...and by then the whole Muslim world will be against Israel...so next you bomb Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Indonesia.....all in all about 1,5 billion people. No problem, bomb them all! Bombing helps, bombings makes people convert, you know!
34. #33
Adam ,   Raanana, Israel   (08.03.06)
Yes thats a great idea, lets start yesterday. Give them a chance to change their doctrine and the glorification of Jihad, or they die. Its either us or them and I choose us.
35. Time to BOMB Iran
Jason ,   Wilmington   (08.03.06)

38. Here comes the texan, #36....
Patricia ,   Santa Barbara   (08.03.06)
Of course, Christopher, you SHOW the point! Deep country texan, conservative radical, just watching FOX news all day long, brainwashed = no manners or respect for the ones who think different. And I almost forgot, terrible humor! Thanks for making the point, again.
39. Re: So talking doesn't work
f ,   chicago   (08.03.06)
It seems like Germans got their lesson from their experience in the past. Well... The difference between those times is that Israel is fighting for their people and your arguments would sound very good for 1941... but now they may not work well.
40. Do you think you are capable of that?
Ali ,   Beirut   (08.03.06)
No ONE in the world could weaken or Delete hezbollah..Do you hear that? 22 days and you keep trying.. Airstikes are not preventing Rockets, Ground battles are making you look terrible (crying soldiers, soldiers injured in their backs while running away from battle). Try and Try, and finally you will reach the conclusion that your government is stupid and has wasted your time, sacrificed your soldiers lives for No USE
41. To 35
Ariel ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.03.06)
Yes, when the wind is good a nuk on the head of Ahmadinejad! Ariel
42. #40 This is the truth you want to read to justify terror
The Western World   (08.03.06)
No matter what, we are living the good life and the best you can do is poverty and misery - your anger is your drug to cope. Who's actually winning the BIG war?
43. To Ali, Number 40
Allan ,   london   (08.03.06)
Ali, I would stop watching Al Manar as lets be real here, Israel is winning, it has taken the area and will now just mop up the terrorists as and when it chooses. This war was started by YOU and the people YOU support. Israel will finish it and who will be better off? YOU or ME? Me.. I will live in a world without Hizbollah, while you will just sit there and wonder why your terrorists lost, hide behind civilians and why Nasrallah ran off to Syria when the going got tough. Its a shame the Druse and Christians couldnt have stopped the muslims fanatics from ruining their country.

46. Thought-provoking article
Miss Molly ,   Vancouver, Canada   (08.03.06)
I agree with this thoughtfully-written, intelligent article. Iran is the 800-lb gorilla here. President Bush is just biding his time. Playing the diplomacy game. We all know it doesn't work, hasn't worked, and never will work. "Peace-keeping" doesn't work. The UN doesn't work. The post-modern rules don't apply. Several people believe that before he leaves office he will deal with Iran militarily. Having played by the rules ("diplomacy etc), he's not going to leave the next President holding the bag the way Clinton did.
47. Talk to Iran's Opposition
Yalda ,   Los Angeles   (08.04.06)
It's no use talking to Ahmadinejad, or to Khamenei. You need more of the opposition to stand for the right of Israel to stand as a nation. You need people like Montazeri, Khatami, etc to say openly that they reject the policy of "eliminating" Israel. Otherwise, you'll just give more power to the warmongers.
48. Bush making IDF into "Zionzis"?
DE Teodoru ,   NY USA   (08.04.06)
Israel is a nation. And it is a beautiful nation of beautiful people. So why become like the East-Central Europeans the Zionists left behind to become a light onto the Mideast nations? When Olmert came to Wash DC begging for $10 billion, Bush saw a way to get his money's worth by pushing the IDF into Lebanon->Syria->Iran. As Israel gets in trouble he can insist on helping an ally and thus become a "war president" again in time for the Fall election. But as US polls turn against the massacre of Lebanese civilians Bush will leave Israel hanging. Why repeat Bush's dumb Iraq move. FIRST get your eyes in there so you don't go in intel blind as Bush did in Iraq
49. Yes, talk to Iran
DE Teodoru ,   NY USA   (08.04.06)
Iran fears Sunnis and needs friends. Shia Mullahs are resonable and not so violent unless freightened. An Israeli acad-intel study two years ago was the world's only to conclude that for Iran nukes would be defensive. Teheran noted that. Alas, now a chance was missed. Now, Israeli moderation could well lead to reason; afterall, it did for Khalilzad in Baghdad until Bush got dumb again and refused to talk to Iran. Olmert, don't be a Bushit!
50. Should we also Had talked to Hitler?
Sam Weinstein ,   USA   (08.04.06)
Should we also Had talked to Hitler? He wanted our destruction as a people also
51. Unifil
Richard ,   Amsterdam Holland   (08.04.06)
Unfortunately Ephraim Halevy is completely right. I served in Unifil some 25 years ago.Lookng back I feel ashamed. . The main rule of engagement was: Have tea with armed elements, and return weapons to PLO one day after confiscating
52. #17 has it right
texas   (08.05.06)
the israli ATTACKING force is a bunch of fools, the supposibly have 1 of the best armies w/ advanced weapons and can only get afew kms into lebanon. fighting a hand full of men at a time. not to mention the mindless killing of INNOCENT PEOPLE, and their claim is their not attacking lebanon but they are attacking every part of it. THE UNDERDOGS WILL WIN AND DEFEAT THE LIES OF THE POWERFUL
53. This man's words should not be written off categorically
(08.06.06)
He has an astounding track record and his ideas are, contrary to those who criticize, creative and probably do-able.
54. Regarding- Who is living in a fantasy world?
marilyn hatara ,   St Marys Ga   (08.06.06)
I support Israel in their struggle to maintain their freedom and in their right to defend themselves. Yes I feel badly about any innocent civilian casualties that have inadvertently occurred in this struggle and I'm sure Israel does as well. Unlike the Hezbollah who has deliberately set out to kill innocent civilians and cultures for much too long without batting an eyelash. You cannot negotiate with a terrorist mentality who recruits and trains their own children to become suicide bombers. They have no value for human life and freedom. They are hell-bent on imposing their own violent terroristic lifestyle on other cultures and countries at any cost even the lives of their own children. What does that tell you about their mentality and negotiating ability? Israel tried and made good with their withrawals but to no avail. Consequently what other choice is there. Wake up America, Wake up World before it is too late. Israel you are in my prayers. Kudos to you.
