2. F-22's
Marc ,   Quebec, Canada   (08.03.06)
What difference would F-22s make? Israel's IAF is always alone in the mid-east skies, taking joy-rides over any arab territories it wants to. We see it on tv flying over Lebanon bombing with impunity a population which has no means to defend itself against air attack. Where is the bravery here? In Gaza and the West Bank the IAF is bombing what are REFUGEE CAMPS. Israel is the only country in the WORLD which will be tolerated in doing this and Israel knows this. Any other country which would have done these aerial bombings against a country which has no air defense would have had half the world bombarding it to smithereens by the end of the first week. If this situation is turned around and Israel becomes the one bombed at will in such a way, who in the world will be able to tell its perpetrators to stop?

Hope the zionists will thank the US tax payers.

1. Joyrides? No. Important sorties for information and strikes against infrastucture. 2. Striking with impunity? Considering the international response to any collateral damage from the air, this is debatable. 3. terrorists often sit in refugee camps. The Balata refugee camp branch of Tanzeem was responsible for a number of Israeli deaths in a suicide attacks only this past March 4. What other country in the world? If I recall correctly, I believe France, in Algiers, a few years back. Any censure? of course not. In your attempt to place Israel into a regional context, you don't actually take regional context (or history) into account.
5. Is it the best answer to Israel's needs?
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (08.03.06)
I'm not surprised Lockheed has been pushing to have the constraints on foreign sales lifted. Even in the US, the high unit cost has resulted in limited sales, so they're looking to extend the potential market. (Of course, if Israel gets it, Saudi Arabia will want it too, so Israel could end up *less* secure.) But Israel shouldn't go for such a system without considering its military role, alternatives, and available resources. We're talking about a single plane whose cost is roughly four times that of the F-16. Is it the best solution? The current conflict suggests Israel's most immediate need is for protection against short-range rockets and missiles. A US-Israeli project involving laser-based defense systems was cancelled, it was said, for "budget reasons". I see no evidence in this conflict that the IAF has lacked anything needed for its current missions. Yet the availability of a system like M-THEL or SkyGuard, if it's as effective as claimed, could have spared Israel much loss of life and property in the current conflict.

Let's not forget Chechnya, or Sri Lanka, or any number of central African nations. I don't seem to recall much international action regarding those conflicts. What you forget, Marc, is that when the IAF kills civilians, it is aiming at military targets that are placed within civilian areas. No Israelis celebrate the deaths of innocent arabs. In fact, there are many Israeli peace activists who mourn their deaths. When Hezbollah and Hamas rockets kill Israeli civilians, you will find Palestinians and many other arabs celebrating. Israel attacks to prevent harm to itself, and in so doing it kills civilians. Israel's enemies attack to kill civilians. There's a difference. Let's hope those Raptors come through soon.
7. Even Though Israel Will Basically Get the F-22 for Free
World Citizen ,   the world   (08.03.06)
but what it really means is that the US taxpayers get to subsidize the military-industrial complex via the state of Israel. This can go on for a some while longer but the government of the US is basically bankrupt. The people of America are just now beginning to realize what that fact means to their standard of living. When the full effects of this bankruptcy fall on the backs of the Americans they will be ready to (1) turn inward and isolationist and (2) cut off aid to all foreign countries, including Israel. Since Israel is the main benefactor of American largesse you will feel this the most. Don't think that AIPAC will have the American Congress kneeling at its feet forever. When the American people realize what their government has done to them they will be ready for drastic change. The old order will fall. Don't believe it? People said the Soviet Union would be around forever too. At that point Israel will be at the mercy of the people it has been at war with for the last 60 years.

Marc. Relax. Drink some Pepsi, eat some Poutine or put some vinegar on your fries. You have been missing some subtle nuances in the world's behaviour. For example, your overlords, the French, have done nothing. Neither have the Russian, or the Spanish, etc.... Only lip service. They can't even produce a respectable denunciation at the EU!!!!................Or, perhaps, they don't want to. Did you think about that? Stop being naive. There is a much bigger problem here where even the EU is giving Israel free reign. This is not like the priest taught you that the jews are a problem. Think more about what these muslim countries are doing to the world.

YOUR OWN WORDS ILLISTRATE YOUR READINESS TO SEE MORE ISRAELI'S MURDERED, EVIDENT IN YOUR BALANCED AND MEASURABLE RESPONSE COMMENTS, BUT LETS BE REALISTIC, ITS NOT WHATS DRIVING YOUR COMMENTS TO THIS STORY, RATHER ITS YOUR DESIRE TO ISRAEL SUFFER AT THE HANDS OF ROGUE TERRORISTS WITH CRUDE AND PRIMATIVE APPROACHES TO CONFLICT
10. #3 Did you come from North Africa?
anne ,   USA   (08.03.06)
Yes! America will support Israel cause Israel is an American line of defense.
11. I hope now we rebuild our defense
jason white ,   afula,israel   (08.03.06)
This plane and missiles and anti-missile systems are what we need.I hope the govt.remembers that when all the coalition partners come to ask for more for their budgets. We could have had a laser system to shoot down rockets and even artillery shell, but no money for it>We have money for yeshivas and people who refuse to work. Also retired new immigrants. We need to spend more on defense and education.
12. To Lebanese: Implement 1559 or die
Mark ,   Usa   (08.04.06)
The Lebanese refused to disarm Hizballah . They made that choice and they must face consequences. I am not sorry that civilians are being killed because they are living among Hizballah. They made a choice. They deserve all the consequences.
13. re: ...rebuild our defense #11
Chaim Tovim   (08.03.06)
Jason, get real, the money which is wasted in israel is not for yeshivas and retired new immigrants, but the billions of dollars in graft and corruption that go to the likes of Peres(tillance) and people of his ilk and their cohorts. Israel has always been able to 'afford' whatever military requirement that existed. You can blame the cancellation of the MTHEL on Beilin and Peres(tillance) who were hallucinating that there would be no rocket attacks from Lebanon and Gaza when they forced out the l withdrawal from there.
14. To Marc in Canada regarding his remarks about Israel
Griffin ,   Hollman AFB, NM USA   (08.04.06)
When was the last time an Israeli stapped a bomb to himself and detonated it in a Muslim school yard? When was the last time Israel kidnapped anyone? As a United States taxpayer, I endorse giving Israel a dozen F-22 jets and whatever else they need to protect what is rightfully theirs.

Mike ,   Atlanta, USA   (08.04.06)
We do thank Israel for wanting these planes. Development of the F-22 has spurred innovation in many core electronics sectors that Americans rely on for civilian technology. Plus, it may yet give a boost to the stock market :-) Here's the to the American taxpayer making Americans rich!
20. #12 You Cowards
Mark the ass   (08.04.06)
You know well that lebanon is defensless, because syira has turned it's army into a police force , in favour of hizballah. Your real enemies are syria and iran, and in fact iran is treathening you ... why don't u treathen and respond them u cowards? because they have weapons?? It's like an adult man treathening to kill a 5 year old boy ... that's what israel is doing over lebanon .... trust me if the lebanese had weapons u wouldn't even dare to speak like this .... Btw, even with this toy u won't be able to enjoy the joyride on iranian skies (that if u had the courage to do so) because they know well that u cowards only use airplanes... so go the f*ck and screw with them .. And you desreve the biggest bomb up ur a$$. you just enjoy paying taxes to ur US goverment so that they use that money for bombs against children, and you're happy about it ... USA won't last forever and when the day comes u will all regret ur actions ...

How much are you and your ilk costing the French Taxpayers! You people are ungrateful. Sadly for Europe, they killed off their productive, talented, and hard working Jews and replaced them with a bunch of welfare Moslems. Europe, ever heard of Karma? You people are doomed.
22. Jets
clare ,   new brunswick   (08.04.06)
They are not going to be used in Lebanon. They are for Iran. To paraphrase a certain midget.... the current answer to peace in the middle east is to wipe out Iran's Nuke threat.
23. to Marc in Canada
Alon Kingg ,   Budapest, Hungary   (08.04.06)
You can't argue with the premise that if the Arabs put down thier weapons there would be peace. If Israel put down it's weapons there would be no Israel. So in the future don't say moronic things.
24. lebanese stuck
lebanese trapped in ,   beirut , lebanon   (08.04.06)
most lebanese are hostage to the heavily armed pro iranian, syrian backed militia. NO sir, most lebanese do not desreve to die for any reason. even the government is afraid of implementing 1559 for fear of renewed civil war , a situation lebanon is still reeling from. it is a tough situation but the lebanese are not the enemy , only the jihadis are and they are too powerful now thanks to 15 years of syrian occupation brokered by the US with israeli green lights on 1990
25. Maybe one day
santa ,   netherlands   (08.04.06)
You are somewhat 298 million people who will keep on building warmachines and to capitalize on this industry you will have to put nations against each other, sell them obselete armement and live from their suffering. Maybe one morning you wake up and found out that your government destropyed the world and that he destroyed you too. There will be no way to hold the nuclear waiste from your own bombs comming your way.
26. Tehran & Damascus
Brice ,   Kenton, OH   (08.04.06)
Ahmed Ahmedinamaniac & Assadalunatic, I trust that you will sleep peaceful after the F-22s have been delivered. I hope that Israel puts them to good use over the skies of these idiots if the actions of the idiots require their use.
27. Israel is Defending the Free World
Nicholas ,   Boston, USA   (08.04.06)
WIthout Israel and the US the world would be over run by terrorists and those that appease them. Israel is the greatest ally a nation can have.
28. #20
David ,   New York, USA   (08.04.06)
I realize that I am allowing myself to sink to your juvenile style of debate by defending "Israel's Courage" (when the existence of an entire nation is at stake, it is strategy and tactical prowess that matters, not a country's willingness to put it's sons' lives on the line), but: remember Israel's raid on Iraq's nuclear reactor? Is that courage enough for you? Surely, that should have proven Israel a worthy military force in your highly sophisticated definition of military effectiveness. And did you even read the artcle? "...even with this toy u won't be able to enjoy the joyride on iranian skies (that if u had the courage to do so) because they know well that u cowards only use airplanes..." This plane is undetectable by radar; it can reach its target, deliver its payload, and return safely to base withou the Iranians knowing we entered their airspace. You see, the Lockhead Martin people anticipated that we "cowards only use airplanes" ("we" of course being Israel...and the US...and England...and even France...actually, most countries which prefer advanced first-strike defense strategy over runnig blindly into barrages of enemy fire) and availed themselves to create a weapon that allowed likeminded nations to root out the people who throw rockets at them without having to send their troops into harm's way. It's called "being intelligent"; it's also called, "caring enough about the lives of your citizens". But unfortunately, your strategy that to the most courageous nation go the spoil doesn't work for nations of intelligent, educated people.

jason, usa are you the same as jason white , afula, israel from post #11? You show enough indignation at my post #13 apparently to be the same person. In any case, everyone here is anonymous and fakers so who care? So where are you? usa? or Israel? You seem awfully hung up by the money aspect of all of this. How about giving some thought to the fact that there is G-d forbid, not even one group of Jews who have been spared terrible suffering at the hands of this HIZB-Shaytan group. I don't know what you mean by 'until you know what real radicals look like...etc' Well, as a matter of fact I do, having lived in the Holy land and having served in Tzahal, my friend. By the way, the Israeli losses have amounted to over $2 BILLION from numerous reports I've read not just $200 million. May the G-d of Israel protect all of the Jews from all walks of life and may we speedily merit the coming of Moshiach b'karov MaMesh!
