Maybe they had a heated argument about the war and in his drunken state Gibson let all that agitation come pouring out at a Jewish deputy who wouldn't let him off. The comments had to have been triggered by something--an underlying prejudice wouldn't have just exploded to the surface for no reason at all. If I were pulled over by a deputy, drunk or not, would I start spewing about how much I hated George Bush? No. But if Mel Gibson pulled me over, I just might start shouting, "F**ing celebrities! You think you own Malibu!"

This article is not much better than Mr. Gibson's tirade, but I don't suspect Mr. Hanania has the excuse of saying he was drunk at the time, perhaps some of it is meant as humor but it's really not. I am an Austrailan Catholic, and I am very surprised at the comments by Mr. Gibson.There is an old saying that the truth always comes out when one is drunk. Apparently his father has denied the Holocaust happened. These people live in a strange world, and God knows where they get this kind of thinking from. Australia is an open, free and friendly place to people from all over the world, including Jews and Muslims, Buddists, Hindus, Scientologists , Mormons,etc.,and all we ask in return is to live in harmony and do not bring your old problems to our shores.Australia is only just over 200 years old, as in Western settlement, and the opportunities are unlimited for those who wish to put their old prejudice behind them and begin anew.
