9. Suicide as divorce
Angry religious ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.06.06)
I hope those Dayanim (Rabbinical Court jusges?) will be put on trial as "accessories to murder" and the recalcitrant husband on Trila for "murder"! Dayanim are supposed to have mercy on the downtrodden and should not automatically side with the husband. Maybe the time has come to insist that Dayanim undergo courses in Psychology, Social welfare, BEFORE being authorised to sit on divorce proceedings.
10. now that....
karli ,   israel   (08.06.06)
now that daughter could get into the school of her choice? those children will have better marriage prospects? the rabbinic court and husband should be publically circumcised and thrown deep into lebanon!
11. Divorce
Connie ,   VA, USA   (08.06.06)
After reading this i can only hope that there is some kind of reform to help the women who suffer abuse. I read that he wanted her to be immersed in the cleansing pool but what about for himself. I have seen and experienced it some myself so I know that they won't change on the outside if the inside, their heart is not changed. Why do I always talk about letting God/Yeshua change us on the inside? Because I have seen and experienced that also. Now me and my ex-husband are friends and brothers and sisters in the Lord. Divorce makes you feel shameful and a failure but it is not the end of the world or something that's going to keep you forever estranged from God. There is healing and forgiveness. Again I hope that they will listen more attentively from now on. I can only hope and pray.
12. Religious fanaticism inseparable from misogyny
Even us Jews ,   Israel   (08.06.06)
13. Caution: The Orthodox Rabbinic establishment is corrupt
Avi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.06.06)
14. What a hillul HaShem, such Ra Banim make!
(08.06.06)
These same Ra Banim (that's what they are evil sons) now will say she cannot be buried in a Jewish cemetry because she suicided. People like these have lost touch completely with the Truth. What about 'Lo taamod al dam reecha" to those neighbours that knew what was going on and kept quiet. If you turn a blind eye/ear to your fellow jew's suffering, don't expect G-d to listen to you when you cry out to Him. I feel sorry for all these people who think they are serving HaShem when in fact they are serving the Sitra Achra (
15. sad story
hanina ,   usa   (08.06.06)
If you can't take a good kick boxing class, we women have pots and pans in the kitchen. A good iron skillet will also do the trick. Women should never ever let a man make them feel small and stupid. If they cannot air their dirty laundry, then the man cannot talk about the lump on his head from the skilet either. who's this bastard gonna hurt now??
16. Woman wants a get
Daniel Baggett ,   Lake City, America   (08.06.06)
Yet another prime example which shows that rabbis have a long way to go in learning how to issue intelligent decisions. And I thought Arabs treated their women badly! May Elohim issue harsh judgement upon these rabbis!!!
17. More easily said than done
Mark ,   MA, USA   (08.06.06)
I've seen it suggested that the woman should have taken the children and left long ago. It makes logical sense, but sometimes it just can't happen. Abused women often don't have resources of their own, and unless charedi women have safe havens in which to seek protected shelter and resources, it is nearly impossible. Yes, dayanim have to be trained in how to deal with social/domestic issues and to break from their neanderthal sexism, and halacha has to be flexible enough to protect a woman and children from sadists.
18. Now who will protect the children?
Risa ,   usa   (08.06.06)
19. I am very sorry about their death!
schulz ,   bad germany   (08.06.06)
"Rabbi" it is a title but it is not Love to woman in God? What a tragedy! By God is enough grace to handle with our problems. And God had given his glory, his spirit for a picture "how can I be a woman". Woman are made by God to mark Gods present! When in a home is not enough understanding, not enough peace, than it better to say: Good by! I am going under God and I am free to go with God! But I can understand this. I was more than 25 years married and now I am not married. And I have peace into Gods Love and into Gods freedom to me! God may bless all children!
20. Don't be blind...
CF ,   USA   (08.06.06)
Last week I heard of a mathamatician who murdered 3 people, so I guess Math must be evil? Wrong, there are idiots and morons in every walk of life. "Egalitarian" courts here in America are 10 times as likely to believe the woman's testimony than the man's in a divorce case. but of course, fools will blame institutions rather than the ancient problem of human stupidity. But of course, these commentators have never made a mistake in their lives, so they must know better...
21. M suicide, abusive husband
dee ,   ohio usa   (08.06.06)
AS A VICTIM OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, I WAS IN AN ABUSIVE MARRIAGE FOR 10 YEARS, MY HEART GOES OUT TO ALL THE WOMEN LIKE M. WHO RESORT TO SUICIDE. THE MOST STABLE, CREATIVE, LOVING, BRILLIANT WOMEN, THINK OF SUICIDE AS AN OPTION WHEN ALL OTHER OPTIONS ARE TAKEN AWAY FROM THEM... WHEN YOU ARE AN OBSERVANT JEW, BE IT HAREDI, CHASSID, BLACK HATTER OR MODERN ORTHODOX..WHENYOUR HUSBAND AND THE RABBONIM SWERVE SOCIAL OPINION TO SIDE WITH THE HUSBAND A WOMAN LOSES HER CREDIBILITY, SHE BECOMES A PARIAH, A SOCIAL OUTCAST AND HER PREVIOUS FRIENDS SHUM HER OR ARE "AFRAID" TO GET INVOLVED. WE HAVE BECOME A NATION OF COWARDS....DOES THIS REEK OF EICHA???? THAT WE TURN OUT BACKS ON THE LOVED ONES OF HASHEM....FORTUNATELY I GOT OUT...ALMOST 18YEARS AGO, AND REMARRIED.....BUT I STILL BEAR THE EMOTIONAL, AND SPIRITUAL SCARS AND THE RABBONIM HAVE DONE A NUMBER ON MY REPUTATION. WHAT AMOUNT OF EDUCTAION WILL IT TAKE FOR OTHER HAREDI WOMEN TO OPEN UP THEIR HEARTS AND HOMES TO WOMEN IN NEED? IF SATMAR CHASSIDIM IN WILLIAMSBURG ARE GETTING THE MESSAGE AND CONTACTIN THE SHALOM TASK FORCE IN NEW YORK, WE CAN ONLY PRAY THAT THIS MESSAGE REACHES THEIR SISTERS IN ERETZ HAKODESH TOO, WHEN OUR RABBONIM FAIL US, AND HALACHA IS PERVERTED, AND WOMEN ARE SCORNED....IS IT ANY WONDER THAT OUR SECULAR COUNTER PARTS VIEW US AS PART OF A NARROW MINDED CULT AND CLOSED MINDED. WHEN THEY HEAR OF THE ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR OF COMMUNITIES ATTITUDES TOWARDS SURIVIORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE THEY WANT NO PART OF OUR "CULTURE" PRAY FOR PEACE FOR ALL OF ISRAEL.
22. dying for a divorce
jonny ,   london england   (08.07.06)
i really sympathise but what about abused husbands? surely when either partner wants a divorce a divorce should be immediately imposed otherwise it is legalised institutional rape
23. you sure she wasn't murdered
shira ,   zichron yaakov   (08.07.06)
her husband is a ritual abuser. she was after a get and wasn't going to stop. what makes you so convinced he didn't have her murdered? where was he when all of this happened?
24. suicide
chaya ,   ny.ny,usa   (08.07.06)
How will her children have shidduchim now? And they have no more mother!
25. In the name of Juistice - Aren't women equal to men in front
Tried it ,   Israel   (08.07.06)
of the law yet?!!! WHAT on earth is this?! I have had to use the Israeli institutions after years of abuse, and found NONE of them wanting in wisdom or justice! I was believed on every point of my complaints, and measures were taken by all authorities involved. I live in peace and quiet now - but it did include accusing my husband to the police, which was the ONE and only thing that stopped his long lasting abuse, and, in addition, passifying his relatives with a forced peace agreement in which stalking, verbal abuse, entering the home et cetera were laid down as forbidden. This was not done in the rabbinate, as I'm not a Jew. I'm very sorry if Jewish women stay to suffer in this way. But if you do accuse your husband to the police and you and your children are taken to a shelter for abused women, they have lots of professionals to help you from there!!!
26. Fundamentalist Muslims and Jews
Stephen ,   Chicago USA   (08.07.06)
Not a complete mirror image but the flavor is the same: bitter. Israel is going to have to deal with these medieval attitudes and actions toward women that exist within its own borders. If the Land of Israel is to achieve its promise, this nonsense must be ended. Every Jew in the world is fully aware that we are in a ghastly, dangerous period. If we are to be considered just, then we must act that way. These acts by fundamentalist Orthodox Jews and Rabbis reflect poorly upon us all, far beyond the borders of Israel itself. And we protest!

Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (08.07.06)
A woman is dead, driven to suicide, and you are worried about "shidduchim" (For those of you who don't know Hebrew or Yiddish, it means an arranged marriage). Maybe the kids will be so revolted with fundamentalist Judaism after what it did to their mother they will abandon it for a kinder, gentler form of Judaism where a woman is a human being with rights, and not just a man's possession to reproduce.
28. Ston' Cold Dead in De' Market
Treifalicious ,   NYC/Tel-Aviv   (08.07.06)
One question I have always asked is: In the case of a recalcitrant husband who refuses to give a get, why doesn't the woman just kill the husband (instead of herself)? That way, a body is produced which automatically frees her from the mariage. If she plays her cards right the murder can be "unsolved" for years.
29. Interesting...
Anony ,   Jerusalem   (08.07.06)
I live in a very Chareidi neighborhood in Jerusalem. I, along with anybody I've asked, have not heard of this death, and news travels PRETTY quickly around here. Nor has this been reported in ANY other news... Is it possible that this is yet ANOTHER Ynets Fantasy News report, which YNet has a small history of doing?
30. #29
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (08.07.06)
No, it's that certain things, like when bad things happen to children or women they keep them covered up. For example, do you see pushkas for the haredi battered women's shelter in your neighborhood? You see them in a lot of secular neighbohoods in Tel Aviv. By the way, for people who don't know, pushka is a donation box for charity.
