1. ''WHY NOT?'' - That is also what my 2-year-old says alot.
Dov   (08.06.06)
2. Rabbi Eliashiv is not 'Hassidic'
Daniel van Dalen ,   Jerusalem   (08.07.06)
3. Not undemocratic
(08.07.06)
This is a great expression of democracy. Most residents of ירושלים are against homosexual practice and for תורה observance. So the majority has decided that it doesn't want its city profaned, and the minority is concluded by that decision. That's democracy. What the organizers of this homosexual event want is government to tell residents what they will have to put up with. Essentially, they advocate totalitarianism.
4. With all my respect
Zulma ,   Toronto,Canada   (08.07.06)
With all my respect to the homosexual comunity in Israel, don`t you think this is not the moment for opposition and parades? We need to focus in being together and helping the northern people. Please common sense!!!
5. Shame of pride
Lex_talionis ,   Austin Texas   (08.07.06)
Israelis are bleeding and dying to save the country while the perverse and degenerate complain they are not allowed to parade their depravity down the streets of the holiest city in the world. Instead of Jersualem, perhaps they can obtain a permit to march in the valley of Sodom & Gomorrah. A more apropos site, considering.
6. hey guys they might be right this time
m ,   center, israel   (08.07.06)
listen though i am straight, i am pflag all the way with all the friends and family i have that prefer a little "pink" but anyways i think that this time they may have a point not to have a celebration at this time till the war is over with. with so many people dying and living in fear every day is this really a time to celebrate? how can we enjoy the freedom to be who we are and celebrate it with the world when so many of our young men are stuck in awful holes fighting for that freedom? there will be a time to celebrate...when we finish kicking some ass and our boys come home. then we will have double the reason to be proud
7. Gays v Orthodox
Shalom ,   Israel   (08.07.06)
Idiots! Don't you realise that an Orthodox gathering cannot be compared with a licentious show of depravity. Would you gays/lesbians/bis stand there saying tehillim, or would you be "thrusting your butts?"
8. The wrong city to parade in your undies
S Benshir ,   Washington DC   (08.07.06)
Why not go parading in your undies in a place you would be welcome? Such as London, Paris or San Francisco. If you really want controversy why not Teran or Damascus? They like boys there.
9. Pride and prejudice
Sean ,   Montréal, Canada   (08.07.06)
Gay, Jewish, living in Jerusalem and wants to party. Tell me do the tolerant , "holy" neighbours counsel the boys that if they insist on playing lickety-slurp with each others putzes to make sure that the other putz is Jewish ? O save us from the righteous. They just finished the Out Games here in Montréal. I'm a breeder but I was pleased to live in a city with enough tolerance and verve to host such a festival. I am blessed to live in such a place and I am sympathetic to those who have to tolerate the interminable intolerance of religious fanatics. Remembering that these are the people who would have women feel ashamed of their bodies and deny them access to public education don't let them to make you feel shame about who you are. The Middle East is rank with people who know what G-d wants for us and are all too happy to convince us , at the end of the barrel of a gun if need be.
10. OK after the conflict has ended - asked and answered

Shalom ,   Israel   (08.07.06)
What a load of dribble! a) frum women are NOT ashamed of their bodies - opposite - they believe that what H' gave them is special and only to be shared with their husbands. 2) No education for women - look at all the Frum women with higher education and then talk. 3) You talk like a pimp. What % do you think of "Orthodox" men act in the way you describe. Let me take a guess - a miniscopular amount in % terms - certainly far less than your depraved secular friends
12. Convert
Sam ,   Toronto, Canada   (08.07.06)
All the religious extremists in Jerusalem should convert to Islam then they can go live in Mecca with their new best friends the Muslim extremists. That way the enlightened people who don't live in the Stone Age can get on with their lives and the nation can go forward -- instead of backward.
13. Re: Pride parade no; Hassidic protest – why not?
Tzvi Fabian ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.07.06)
This article is biased, unbalanced and contains at least one factual error; as well as, at least one wording error. Yedioth Ahronoth clearly displays partiality by only quoting officials from the Jerusalem Open House. The article lacks balance since there isn’t any response from the Jerusalem Police to answer the egregious claims of Hagai Elad, and Noa Sattath. An example of least one factual error, which in turn cast doubts on factuality of the whole of the article, is description of a planned anti-parade protest by the “Hassidic followers of Rabbi Yosef Elyashiv”; Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv is in fact Lithuanian. The wording error is in the quote, "This is anti-democratic policy, which embodies the attackers and punishes the victim…” I’m quite sure ‘embolden’ was the word intended.
14. I am a firm supporter of Gay Rights but...
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (08.07.06)
I agree with those who maintain that this is not the time for the Gay Parade, be it anywhere in Israel. I do not know who is Gay, Bi or Straight, not do I care. We are all people and we all know that our people, of every persuasion, are being killed and hurt. There will be a time soon for the biggest Pride Parade the world has ever seen after this horrible war is over. I must point out though that I find it disgusting that certain Jews, religious and secular, side with Arabs, who work for our destruction, in their hatred of the Gay Community. I am not at all religious but I ask the Rabbis this question: Maybe God has seen the way you behave to your fellow man and for your hatred he has a brought war upon our land? Think about it Rabbis, because we are all His people, not only the homophobes!
15. Jerusalem is Hassidic back yard, not gays' rear end
Bennie ,   Israel   (08.07.06)
Gays from around the world do not need to come to Israel to trash up the Hassidic community home of Jerusalem with homosexual depravity. Paris gays, New York gays, and gays from anywhere else in the world should flaunt their perversion in their own home communities rather than spreading their garbage around Jerusalem.
16. Gay tyrants want government to endorse & protect perversion
Mahmoud ,   Jerusalem   (08.07.06)
The gay tyrants want total control to spread their filth and perversion around our holy city of Jerusalem. Gays want police to harass, attack, beat and arrest Jews and Moslems who do not want homosexual filth to defile Jerusalem. Police need to protect the sanctity of Jerusalem, not act as the storm troopers for homosexual dictators who do not respect the rights of other people to have a community free of sin and perversion.

RW ,   Jerusalem   (08.07.06)
"Maybe God has seen the way you behave to your fellow man and for your hatred he has a brought war upon our land? " Actually, if you look in the Torah, one of the ways to win a free "get kicked out of Israel" card is through sexual immorality. G-d said in the Torah that it's wrong, so I don't think he's going to punish us for following what He says.
18. Haredi intimidation
cipher ,   Boston, Mass, USA   (08.07.06)
Yet another example of the state succumbing to pressure from the Haredim. Their attempts to dominate society in Israel and to define Judaism elsewhere must be resisted.
19. Keep your private life private. How about masturbators parad
Alex ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.07.06)
Outrageous display of thoughlessness in a city in which most inhabitants abhor this type of exhibitionism.
20. More gays, more AIDS. Just what Israel needs.
Avraham ,   Jerusalem   (08.07.06)
Our country is at war, our health care system stretched to the limit. Now gays want to come to Jerusalem and spread more AIDS around. Just what Israel needs.
21. Why a film festival when Israel is at war?
bill handel ,   brooklyn, usa   (08.07.06)
What a bunch of self-absorbed babies! Having a film and art festival while men, women, and children are being slaughtered by Hizbollah rockets and gunfire is equivalent to fiddling, while Rome burns. Doesn't this lady spinmeister understand that a "parade of abomination" in the Holy City is a violent provocation in the eyes of anyone--Jew Arab, or Christian--who takes G-D seriously!
22. Gay pride?
Baruch ,   Boston, USA   (08.07.06)
Just what exactly are gays (and bisexuals and transgenders and transsexuals and transvestites, etc.) proud of? That they can't experience sex or love in what is unquestionably the biologically normal way? That gay men talk like women and lesbians talk and look like men? That they like to strut around flaunting their aberrant sexuality, in near-naked attire. Absolutely insane? And liberals think this is okay? What is going on? This is not totally a religious issue. It is a sanity and human character issue. The religious side may be that HaShem, in His infinite wisdom, has shown us through His Torah what we instinctively know, but seem to be able to debate ourselves out of believing. Stop ALL the pride activities in Israel, not just the parade.

"Yet another example of the state succumbing to pressure from the Haredim. Their attempts to dominate society in Israel and to define Judaism elsewhere must be resisted. Well, at least they are the ones living here, while you live nice and comfy in the US... perhaps if you wish to move here and then you can 'resist' them all you want!
24. selfish
john ,   canada   (08.07.06)
people are being killed in the north and you are just thinking of having a parade. it is not suprising from homosexuals. it is in the name. homo meaning one. therfore homosexsual are the most selfish people. after them there is nothing. no natural way of reproducing or contributing to infant a child. selfish minds, selfish acts...
25. Neither the time nor place
Charnie ,   New York, USA   (08.07.06)
Most of the gay people I know wish they we're gay. If you want to "flaunt it", please do so in an appropriate venue, which is not Yerushalyim, the holiest place on earth. You can't change the Torah's opinion of your prediciment no matter what, and while I have rachmanis for you, I hope you will act in a more mature, discrete manner. People's sexual lives, whether hetro or not, should be their own private business. Would you want the hetro community to go marching down the street everytime we have relations? Some things are better left in your bedrooms.
26. Gay people can fight the war as..pride
not man enough   (08.07.06)
alleast then they would do something to be proud of.
27. Are you gay?
# 12   (08.07.06)
On second thoughts i was thinking of a gay home land. Where was it, Republic of Sodom.
28. Reply to #11
Sean ,   Montréal, Canada   (08.07.06)
Well. my goodness that was rather mean spirited, Perhaps if I had the same life experiences as you I would know what you mean when you say i , "talk like a pimp " . Not being of the ilk to consort with such people however I will have to take your word on that. In regards to my friends though you know them not , and as I do, I will have to take umbrage at the suggestion they are "depraved ". Shalom means what again ?
29. its Your fault
isaac ,   Rockaway, NY   (08.07.06)
Its the gays that caused this war to break out. Will all the sickos please stay out of the holy land. If Iran allows you to march then you could march in Jerusalem
30. If they want to party send them to Lebanon
Sandy ,   Winnipeg   (08.07.06)
There are lots of fireworks there. Party atmosphere. They will get a warm welcoming. Who knows maybe they can parade with Hizbolah?
