1. US PRESSURE PROMPTS DELAY OF OFFENSIVE
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (08.10.06)
It was made clear through Press Secretary, Tony Snow, that the White House considers Israel's response of self-defense to Hezbollah's incessant rocket attacks on Israel is the moral equivalency of Islamic terrorism: "We want an end to violence and we do not want escalations," White House press secretary Tony Snow said Wednesday hours after the Israeli Cabinet approved an expansion of the ground offensive in southern Lebanon. JPost.com Israel Aug. 10, 2006 9:55 | Updated Aug. 10, 2006 9:56 US pressure prompts delay of offensive By YAAKOV KATZ AND AP The IDF General Staff postponed the expansion of ground operations in south Lebanon late Wednesday night, after the security cabinet earlier in the day approved a plan for a widened offensive that would take the army to the Litani River, over 20 kilometers from the border, and beyond, in an effort to prevent the incessant Katyusha rocket attacks on northern Israel. The troops were already rolling late Wednesday when they were ordered to halt. It appears heavy US pressure delayed the offensive to allow diplomacy to run its course. A senior minister said Wednesday that Israel might delay the expansion for 2-3 days for that purpose... "We want an end to violence and we do not want escalations," White House press secretary Tony Snow said Wednesday hours after the Israeli Cabinet approved an expansion of the ground offensive in southern Lebanon.
2. DEALING WITH THE DEVIL: The UN Threat to Israel
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (08.10.06)
Don't let the deaths of the brave IDF soldiers be for nothing! national review online August 07, 2006 Dealing with the Devil A diplomatic disaster in the making. By Anne Bayefsky Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is on the brink of handing President Bush the worst diplomatic disaster of his presidency. She is poised to agree to two United Nations resolutions that will tie the hands of both Israel and the United States in the war on terror and, in particular, inhibit future action on its number one state sponsor — Iran. The catastrophe is the brainchild of Secretary General Kofi Annan, who has effectively turned the United Nations into the political wing of Hezbollah. In the last three weeks, a multi-headed hydra of U.N. actors has risen to defeat Israel on the political battlefield in an unprecedented disregard of the U.N. Charter’s central tenet: the right of self-defense. But how did the U.N. respond to the aggression against the U.N. member state of Israel, which was launched once again from Lebanese territory and which continues to the present hour? By accusing Israel of murder, mass genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, the deliberate attack of children, and racism. U.N. actors have even denied that Hezbollah is a terrorist organization and analogized it to anti-Nazi resistance movements... The Geneva Conventions clearly state that combatants are prohibited from using civilians as human shields, but if they do so, the presence of civilians does not render the area immune from military operations. Israeli soldiers and civilians are paying with their lives daily as a consequence of Israel’s efforts to avoid disproportionate action — a dramatic exercise of restraint taken in order to reduce Lebanese civilian casualties... The United Nations seeks to: (1) protect Hezbollah from further Israeli attacks; (2) produce a political win for Hezbollah by giving them the territorial prize of the Shebaa Farms ; and (3) increase U.N. presence, oversight, and control of the Arab-Israeli conflict. It calls for renewed involvement of UNIFIL, the U.N. troops that stood and watched Hezbollah rearm and plan its deadly assault on a U.N. member state for the last six years. Such an international force is to be authorized under the first-ever Chapter VII resolution — a legally binding resolution that can be implemented through sanctions or the use of force — in the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict. In other words, Secretary Rice has approved of a U.N.-authorized and monitored force that has its sights set on Israel too, coupled with a claim that Israel is currently engaged in “offensive” operations. The very U.N. that accuses Israel of murder and heinous violations of international law is now to be charged with judging compliance with a legally binding instrument purporting to define the terms and conditions of Israel’s self-defense... There will be only one sure result of this move — the empowerment of terrorists whose ultimate target is the United States and all democratic values. Secretary Rice’s belief that there is a serious convergence between the United Nations agenda and American foreign-policy needs in the age of terrorism is a profound error in judgment for which democratic societies everywhere will be forced to pay a heavy price. http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=ODQyMGNlYWM5NzIzZGFhOTNlZDAxMmM2YTRkOWRjYzE=
3. This Would Invalidate 1559
Michael ,   Minneapolis USA   (08.10.06)
By not addressing resolution 1559, the disarming of Hezbo, it in essence, invalidates it. Any ceasefire agreement must reinforce resolution 1559 or it will be in default. Wasn't the intent to provide for a sustainable peace? This ain't it.
4. this was a strange war
(08.10.06)
5. Why shouldn't Hezbollah accept it?
Shai ,   Israel   (08.10.06)
Olmert and his party are politically finished if he accepts this proposal. Isn't it obvious that if it's difficult rationally, it should not be done? Leaders like those who'd sign this agreement, who do not believe in their own country, are a plague. We need different leadership.
6. Enough is enough
The Raccoon   (08.10.06)
The proposed "cease-fire" is an atrocity: it's basically handing Hezbollah everything it wants and reinforcing Iran. The only outcome of such a "cease-fire" is the rearmament of Hizballah and continued attempts to genocide the Jews. How long will this national suicide continue? It's obvious that the only solution is for Israel to utterly crush Hizballah in a massive military action (total annihilation of Southern Lebanon by AIF and artillery followed by a massive invasion at least to Beirut while destroying Baalbek completely); this should be the preliminary step for a massive American assault on Iran, crippling the Ayatollahs completely and destroying Iran's financial and military capabilities. Anything less than that is a recipe for disaster: this is the only way to act when faced with a happily genocidal, religiously motivated enemy that will accept nothing but the utter and complete annihilation of the West and the wholesale slaughter of all the Jews. So why do we wait and why do we let dhimmi states like France call the shots about our survival?
7. The War is posteponed
SR ,   NYC   (08.10.06)
another half step in the wrong direction... Hizbollahs see you in a bit, when we suffer more casualties... Current casualties were for nothing, or were not enough of them, so Peretz and Olmert srart thinking again...
8. Sounds like a Non-Starter
Erik   (08.10.06)
But then again, Israel has a habit of agreeing to stupid deals. This is what you get for not flattening South Lebanon from the get-go.
9. WHAT ?! THE HIZBALLAH WON ? OLMERT THE PEOPLE WILL BREAK YOU
(08.10.06)
10. ISRAEL DOES NOT DESERVE THIS F*** LEADERSHIP

11. If the olmert/peretz team accepts
Arie ,   Afula   (08.10.06)
then they shold resign for the appeasers we all know they really are!
12. Already a non-starter
Arie ,   Afula   (08.10.06)
The proposed agreement calls for implementing1559 yet athe same time says hezbullah will not be disarmed; we have to provide a release of terrorists while hezbullah keeps their missiles; and most of all the islamofascist state of france, one of the most anti-Semitic staes on Earth, as the providors of a 'peace-keeping' force would be laughable if it wasn't so tragic. As soon as hezbullah says "boo" to them they will run!
13. French Soldiers? White flags?
Borat   (08.10.06)
Hizballah will feel right at home. Maybe the Frenh will help them hide their weapons.
14. Good news is Olmerts days are Probably numbered
N B Shalom   (08.10.06)
The country has been pounded by the hisbala One million people have evacuated from the north, about hundred death, many more injuries, Collateral damage in the billions and Olmert is making peace. Which means a great victory for Hizbala and a time to regroup only to be repeated with more powerfull missles. Listen olmert Hizbalah has to be distroyed before talking peace. Do the country a favor resign and save the country from more havoc.
15. SOUNDS LIKE A PAPER PEACE
Sam Weinstein ,   USA   (08.10.06)
This is no difference than having UNICIF before makes absolutely no difference in the situtaion than it was before.
16. DID MR OLMERT REACHED GOALS HE PUT IN FRONT OF ARMY?
Lebanese ,   Lebanon   (08.10.06)
as he promised in the beginning concretely in 7-10 days, lol
17. OLMERT FRANCE AND ANNAN
myron ,   USA   (08.10.06)
If Olmert gives in to the UN and to Pfrantz then Israel is finished. In fact, the very aim of Annan and Pfrantz is to do anything that will perpetuate the war of attrition against Israel. If Olmert gives in to the UN,then power must be taken from and placed in the hands of competent decison -makers who do not tremble and/or piss in their pants..
18. This sounds like a catastrophe
Larry ,   Eastbourne, UK   (08.10.06)
No disarmament of Hizbullah, and no immediate release of the abducted soldiers, signifies unconditional surrender to terrorism and means that the Israeli dead will have died in vain.
19. If this UN resoluation is passed!
Ari ,   Jerusalem   (08.10.06)
It means that Israel has lost this war and Hizbollah has won it with honors! And guess what gals and guys, Hizbollah will blend into the Lebanese army and this time will be armed with French most advanced weapons! Ladies and Gentlemen this also means the beginning of an end to the Israeli regional military superiority! Shalom
20. UN is SCARED to disarm HBL
John ,   NZ   (08.10.06)
21. If There's a Ceasefire, New Elections Must Follow

immediately.
22. Israelis are Peace loving poeple: Read these Talkbacks.
Tunisian   (08.10.06)
23. NO WAY!
Jenny   (08.10.06)
Over 100 Israelis did not die in vain. If you don't disarm Hezbollah, they will re-group and re-arm, gather 15,000 more rockets and launch another attack in 5 years that will be 10 times as bad. They may even take over Lebanon and make them into a new Shiite theocracy. FINISH THEM NOW or disarm them. It must be done. There is no compromising with terror.
24. HIZBOLLAH DO NOT WANT PEACE
TD ,   London   (08.10.06)
Ceasefires are dependent on all parties genuinely wanting peace. Hizbollah do not want peace. They want any opportunity they can to regroup and rearm...they will use a ceasefire to do this if they can. THEY DONT WANT PEACE. HOW HARD IS THIS TO UNDERSTAND?? IDF - FIGHT ON.
25. Good Grief!
anne ,   usa   (08.10.06)
Hizbullah oughta just LOVE this latest agreement, sheesh. If Olmert goes with this, then he is beyond crazy!!!
26. Olmert: RESIGN NOW
Jerry ,   NYC, USA   (08.10.06)
You are incapable of leading Israel in a dangerous neighborhood. You have seriously damaged Israel's strategic position, becaue of an unwillingness to fight and sustain casualties. More people die in auto accidents in Israel. This means many, many more Israelis will (G-d forbid) die in the future. This Defeatist government must be thrown out and replaced with a government that will defend Israel by being willing to fight when it is attacked, unlike the current corrupt Kadima/Labor idiot government.
27. A clip- the truth about israel war.
Ben ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (08.10.06)

28. Failure to implement 1559 caused war
Mark ,   USA   (08.10.06)
If Hizballah is not disarmed, Hizballah and Islamic terrorism has won this war. The world rewards terrorists and yet Bush says he is fighting terrorism.
29. The cease fire is on Hizballah terms
Mark ,   USA   (08.10.06)
If they can not disarm Hizballah, they will not disarm Hamas. I prefer war even if every civilian in Lebanon is kiiled. Arms will still get smuggled into Lebanon. 87% of Lebanese support Hizballah
30. Will the frogs let us use their white flags?
jason white ,   afula,israel   (08.10.06)
Maybe we should let the iranians negotiate a deal for us in the u.n.? Damn the french and their anti-Israel deals. New elections afterwards and this time let us have only veterans and members of the I.D.F. voting.
