31. Shameful
Eric ,   South Africa   (08.11.06)
Shameful that so many people revel in the death of another, use it to re-inforce their fears and hatred. In the dying days of apartheid a young peace activist from USA (Amy Biehl) was killed among the people she came to help in a black township.... her parents later took initiative to set up processes that helped rehabilitate some of the self confessed killers. They set themselves apart from those calling for revenge and counter killing. They were candles in the darkness. Pity most of the talkbacks prefer the darkness.
32. It's so sad.
James K. ,   Leesville, LA, USA   (08.11.06)
I don't think he was naive as far as the dangers involving the Palestinians and Muslims are concerned; I mean really... He came to help them and set up a summer camp for them. So he probably felt he would be left alone. It's sad though, he probably felt that the Muslims meant it when they called their faith the religion of peace. He probably took them at their word, but instead, it cost him his life. J.J.K.
33. To #18 Haim
Sean ,   MontrĂ©al   (08.11.06)
Dear Haim Thank you. Yesterday myobjectivity was pushed to the threshold of my patience and understanding, A good word, like a good seed, produces fruit long after it is planted. Judging by these talkbacks one begins to see the recurring theme : show me one good man amongst them to give cause for their redemption. When I was growing up I would skip school some days to go to the public library and read American newspapers. This was before we had American television in my town. I was surprised that all the crime stories identified the aggressor as black. This was the case even in instances where no one had been arrested. Then my mother told me a story of her honeymoon in Detroit in December of 1946. The department store was packed with pre Christmas shoppers. While turning, she accidently bumped into an eldery black woman. My mother immediately apologized and the elderly woman began to weep. My mother placed her hand on the women's arm and asked what was wrong. Bless you darling the woman replied, in over eighty years a white person has never told me they were sorry. It is Friday morning here in Montréal, though much later in your part of the world so I wish you and your family a good Shabbos.
34. #13 what?
Mizgav Am   (08.11.06)

35. to 19
Mizgav Am   (08.11.06)
no one will fear us away from our home. why dont you tell the arabs not to go there?
36. Murder . . . that's what it is.
Robert ,   CA USA   (08.11.06)
Call it what it is. His poor parents and family. Perhaps the problem is are the beliefs. One believes they'll receive virgins from God for murdering those God created. The other has been taught that all men are good. It is sad. Israel do NOT trust them . . . neither should the world.
37. Talk about a disproportionate response!
Ben Hur ,   Manhattan, USA   (08.11.06)
38. Does he qualify for 77 virgins?
Ofer ,   Los Angeles, CA   (08.11.06)
39. Rachel Corrie #2?
Sheikh Yahudi ,   Damascus, Israel   (08.11.06)
Somehow, I feel that Israel haters won't make this guy into another peace martyr. Rachel Corrie's death has been cynically used to chastize Israel. This guy (I'm not even mentioning his name because everyone will pretty soon forget him) was killed by the very people he was trying to comfort. Israel haters simply won't be able to think of a way to blame Israel for his death (even they are not that creative). Therefore, his death has no value to the anti-Israel movement. Had he jumped under an Israeli bulldozer like that idiot Rachel Corrie did, he surely would have gotten a lot more attention.
40. Re: #19 - Misguided call
Fabia Fiortina ,   Haifa   (08.11.06)
Mark states that "East Jerusalem is a dangerous section. It is filled with crime," and calls upon Israelis to boycott the capital of their country. This would only hand complete victory to those who would deny the Jewish people's right to the city which has been their capital for 3,000 years. I might add that Washington D.C., the capital of Mark's USA (though of relatively recent origin), has much greater crime than Jerusalem. It has one of the greatest homicide rates in the U.S. (a distinction not easily attained.) I still would not advise Americans to boycott their nation's capital, for despite the abject poverty and despair in which the majority of its population wallows, despite the fact that one may purchase illegal drugs openly on the street within site of the Washington monument and the White House (Hell, even Mayor Marion Barry did it, was caught, convicted and re-elected) - despite all that - Washington does stand for something else - as does Jerusalem.
41. links in italian
Mike ,   USA   (08.11.06)
Well I am not that good at Italian but maybe someone can glean more info on this guy and his orginization. http://www.corriere.it/Primo_Piano/Cronache/2006/08_Agosto/11/gerusalemme.shtml http://www.arci.it/index.php
42. continuation
Mike ,   USA   (08.11.06)
It turns out I didnt have to know Italian that well. As one can see by using altavista's babel fish translation you can translate the arci page on the relevant article and see their left-wing bias in this conflict. It demands withdrawl from occupied Palestine, Syria and Lebanon according to United Nations resolutions. Oh let us all hide behind the cloak of the UN and resolutions made 20+ years ago.
43. Nr 18 : Haim

Hogwash !
44. Peace activist murdered by Palestinian
Patrick B. Leek ,   Bexley, Ohio U.S.A.   (08.11.06)
When people tell me that Israel should give peace a chance, I tell them that both parties have to agree to it. Is the option to let katushas rain down and not do anything? This is a classic example that peace is elusive no matter how many people around the world say they want peace.
45. Thanks Ray
J   (08.11.06)
I greatly enjoy your articles and perspectives on issues. It is good to know that their are other jews and muslims that feel the same way about issues as I do. Its just sad that our viewpoints are denounced by extremists on both sides. Keep working in that direction. I'm not sure if you will agree with me or not, but I get irritated by peoples actions on both sides calling to either boycott israel or boycotting countries that do not agree w/ israeli or us policy. Doesn't this just further polarize us?
46. the names of peace
Harissa ,   Israel   (08.11.06)
There are many ways to peace...peace at this moment has nothing to do with flower power. It has to do with army power and control. Peace is what we israelis are fighting for with our best men. Tomorrow may be there will be time for schools and summer camps. Today is today and peace has only one name: Control of terrorism, by any means
47. Arabs - A generalisation
Grayham, Leeds   (08.11.06)
Shame, but when are these soppy foreginers gonna reaslie that arabs are arabs, Theres no point tryiong to help them, their own people wont even help them. To all friendly gentile foreigners, help citizens in your own countries, coz the arabs will kill u for your shirt

49. Surprise Surprise,
Adam ,   Manchester   (08.11.06)
This story didnt make the Al Jazeera on line newspaper! Bad Arab PR! If a Jew killed him, thats another story... Once again leftist naivity on show for all to see. Tragic and sad.
50. Someone's Gaydar went off
Yonatan ,   NYI Jerusalem   (08.11.06)
I have heard all the reasons except what is happening this week. The local Gay Pride state run institution is celebrating their Court one victory and Arabs do not like it. All the city was warned that this could happen if Gays decided to go on with their events. Well now it has happened and the center victim just happened to be a peace-nick gay activist out with some gay friends. Remember that hatred is not combated with peace and Jews are not the Arab's only enemies.
51. A Tragic Misperception
Ed ,   Athens USA   (08.11.06)
This sad case illustrates how sadly misinformed Italians and most other Europeans are about the situation in Israel. As long as the European press leads people to believe that Palestinian terror is Israeli propaganda, well meaning people like Frammartino will fail to recognize the real danger that visiting Palestinian areas poses.
52. Angelo
Sam ,   USA   (08.11.06)
My condolences to his family. Apparently, he was a good person trying to make the world better by PEACFUL MEANS. Shame on the killer.
53. how did you know it was an arab who stabbed him

56. "PEACE ACTIVISTS"
Rick S. ,   L.A.   (08.11.06)
Why does Israel let them in? They are all pro Pali and anti Israel. Their aim is to hurt Israel and yet they are not stopped and deported. WHY?

59. islam and peace
demonastir ,   france   (08.11.06)
Islam, yes, used to be a religion of peace.I am seventy, I lived 30 years in a muslim city,my ancestors' fatherland. No one murder happened in 30 years in my city.. Nobody had the memory of one murder. The fights in the streets were light, when they happened everybody came around to stop it. Because of religion. Allah, people said, is against any violence. There were no foreigners living there. A few jews, like me, living there, were never harrassed.I didn't read it in a book,it's my life. Now,unfortunately, islam changed. Hopefully,it will change again. The problem is not at all Israel. Are Saoudi Arabia or Indonesia jewish countries? They suffer because of the PRESENT islam. The problem is elsewhere. Nobody knows, for sure, where.
