But dont forget that as strange as it many seem - the IDF has learned a significant amount too and will be applying the lessons - you will see. as far as the IAF being useless - well yes at low level , helicopters have some worries - but jets will just fly higher and will use multiple war head ordnace to deliver the goods. Additionally, IDF has learned HEAPS about the Hez too - as well as their own shortcomings. We're going to see a much better IDF in future.

I agree totally, that had Israel attacked in force, aggressively, then things would have gone much better and Hezbullah would have been on the ropes, reeling and stunned. This is what we all expected, instead we see a new Israel which appears weak and reticent....how exceptionally sad. I question where you place the blame. From what I read, the Israeli military had a plan for a vigorous attack and it was their weak appeasing liberal Prime Minister (who has never been a soldier...I believe) who is responsible for this debacle. My impression is that President Bush wanted the Israelis to kick ass (and I am no fan of Bush or Condi Rice), but Olmert totally over-road the military and squandering the element of surprise, basically wasted 4-weeks. I DO think Bush and Condi were in favor of the withdrawl from GAZA (another obvious mistake). But don't blame the Americans because the Israelis elected an appeasing, land for peace, liberal instead of Netanyahu..(a man who knows how to deal with terrorists). This fiasco is an absolute disaster for Israel and it will propel Nasrallah to even greater levels of popularity and power.
