yehuda ,   new york   (08.14.06)
1) We ask Hashem to heal the hearts of all the relatives who are in mourning. 2) We understand the exceptionally numerous losses of the familys of heroic soldiers, as well as missle victims. 3) This brings us back to a fundamental point that we mention every Passover in the Seder "that in all generations they try to exterminate us, and Hakadosh baruch hu, saves us from them". 4) Last generation it was the Nazis, this generation it's the Arabs, It has nothing to do with setting up "another Arab state" or a giving them a few yards of Cheba farms or anything else, and it won't be solved by a few fiction writers, or other intellectualls. We are all all equally hated by the Arabs, they want to murder all of of our children equally, and unfortunately too many times they succeed.

33. PLISHTIM ATEM!
BORUCH HOFFINGER ,   BROOKLYN NY   (08.14.06)
BIG TEARJERKING TRAGEDY! First Rashi: If the world says to you: "...you are thieves, you stole the land of Israel." Tell them G-d took it from the nations that were there and gave it to us." There is no OCCUPATION! That's what creates the guilt trip of these "lefties." SICK! A TRAGEDY. Jews living in Israel and they don't know who it belongs to! If so, why are you there? Go live in Brooklyn, NY like I do! (I left the Holy Land bec. of livelihood pblms. CARPET BOMB THE LAIRS OF HIZBOLLAH, USE DAISY CUTTER BOMBS, THEN GO IN! WAKE UP SLEEPYHEADS! GET UP, GET OUT OF BED!

35. To #13 - you bring bad luck
Shlomit ,   Boston   (08.14.06)
Distinction between the blood of Jews and Jews, Jews and Arabs, Jews and Christians, is repulsive! I vote Meretz and cried when I read about the boy from Ofrah, and when I read about the boy from Jerusalem.
36. I´ll pray at aish.com, I cant understand D.Grossman, but ...
schulz ,   bad germany   (08.14.06)
at every time condolences! I am not left wings....... and I have too many wrong words heard into my life for "peace" and it was death, death at mind, death at life, death for life, death: do that, dont that, but not thinking, because you are not ....... ! I can not hear wrong words for peace! Peace is life without weapons, but we have enemies, wich are striking with their weapons, rocket, bombs, munit, knifes and more. Enemies are striking against Israel with her mind, with her words, with her acts. What is peace? Thes answer would give the way!
37. No winners...
paul ,   Krakow, Poland   (08.14.06)
You have some good points. 1. Nassralah proved the world that (Hizbollah's Islam) can be used as an excuse to kill innocent Jews, Americans, British, French, Spanish and other peace loving human beings. 2. Using human shields, children, women and innocent men in houses, hospitals and schools of peace loving Lebanon, to hide and then scream that Israelis kill innocent people. (Kana city) 3. Hatred for people who do not beleive in or do not worship Islam is no excuse to kill, destroy or hold hostage people or nations. Why not teach these radicals that Islam is a peace loving religion. Why not teach tolerance. Why not teach your children that we can get along with each other in a DEMOCRATIC and FREE world. Maybe then you can win the prize for (not WAR), but PEACE.

Al ,   Canada   (08.14.06)
I am sorry for your loss but pls shut up when there is a war going on. Whats good for the goose is good for the gander. When Jews were being thrown out of their homes. were you not silent or did you not agree with that barbaric outrage? In the future I suggest you shut up now join along the many thousands of others and learn to say the Kaddish.
40. Too little, too late
The glass darkly ,   Canada   (08.14.06)
It, of course, goes without saying that it is terrible to lose a child. However, why on earth would so-called thinking parents put their child in this kind of harm's way? I am not only talking about the physical harm which has taken this particular son's life. I am also talking about philosophical and psychological harm's way, better defined as fighting an indefensible fight, a fight of evil over good. His father will now have plenty of time to consider the number of devils sitting on the head of a pin. It is regrettable that he was not able to put his philosophical skills to better use in order to ensure that his son would not die in such an ignominous struggle whereupon he died supporting evil and not good.
41. The cost of appeasment...
Craig ,   USA   (08.14.06)
I am so sorry for your loss, I'm sure you would give anything to trade places with your son. But you must understand that these Islamics don't want peace, you must stop trying to appease them. They understand only power and violence, you must decisively defeat them. Take heart in your grief, our time in this life is but a moment in eternity, your son is at peace with his Creator. In this terrible loss seek your G-d, this is where you will find solace. And remember it is not how we die which matters, though your son died a noble death defending the Jewish People, it is how we lived that counts. I can think of no greater cause than to give ones life in defense of the land and people G-d has chosen as His own. Our souls are eternal and your son still lives, you will meet again. Know that millions around the world stand with you and G-d will not be silent forever. As individuals and collectively as a nation you must examine yourselves, repent of any unrighteousness and seek your G-d. May G-d Bless Israel and the Jewish People.
42. Listen to What He Says
levifam ,   woodmere, ny   (08.14.06)
Isn't this the same Grossman who, when intereviewed by Bill Moyer, drew a parallel between Arab Mothers who dreamt at night of their sons becoming Martyr's (suicide bombers) and Israeli mothers giving birth to sons who could serve proudly defending the State of Israel? How on earth could he justify making that connection? I feel his pain with his son's loss, however it seems that he views himself no different than the parents of a jihadist who lose their son in "battle"--what a shame. Instead, he should view his son as having died defending his country not attacking civilians for sport---pls remind him who started this whole event.
43. My Condolences
B. Grant ,   London   (08.14.06)
My heartfelt condolences Mr. Grossman, This has been a terrible war for all, I am deeply sorry for your loss. To #13, feel what you feel, think what you think, but have the courage to stand in the face of a man who has just lost his son when you say it, rather than adding to his greif by hiding behind faceless words.
44. David Grossman's son Killed
Regret ,   Sharon, Israel   (08.14.06)
I'm sorry for every child who has lost their lifves in the recent conflict in Lebanon. Hashem does not look upon the leftist differently from the rightest. We are all equal and this land is all we have. My condolences to the family. Mr. Grossman lost his son fighting for Eretz Yisrael.
45. Condolences, but be proud of your hero
Georgette ,   Los Angeles, US   (08.14.06)
Just one of the many real sad stories og young men giving their lives for the cause of what? The Government did not even include the safe return of the kidnapped soldiers into the cease fire Agreement (the cause of this awful war). By the way Mr. Grossman: if you are reading this talkback, please write to me about your European background. My father's name was Grossman (prior to changing it in Hungary due to communist persecution); perhaps we may have some lost family connection?
46. Condolences
Thomas Flowers ,   Jacksonville, FL USA   (08.14.06)
Mr. Grossman, we would like to extend to you our most heartfelt condolences regarding the loss of your son, Uri.
47. As a human sharing the same..
Amir AL-Safir ,   Lebanon   (08.14.06)
My condolences goes to all the spirits and all humans on all sides of the fence. I weap for the many victims of this savage war, past and future on all sides. I weap for all the mothers who God has created to be an exemplary being above men to lead their nations into peace. Mothers of all nations who give birth to innocent children and teach them the best to be good human being, to help and nurture each other. I urge all the Israelis to take this moment and pray for all the victims on both sides and also to take truth and view the photos of the dead Lebanese children, and women who before they died under your bombs, only wished to ask the same god to rein peace on all mankind. I ask all the Israelis to take time and just for once, just for once, to look at the photos of the victims in Lebanon. May be, just may be by sharing each others photos of war, that we get to see the effect of this endless war and perhaps, we may both change the language that we talk to each other... and bring the human side to talk to each other. I hope that this time, we should all realize that we have one Middleast (MENA) and that we all should share equally, the same value of life that god had given to all of us and not one above the other. My last heartfelt feeling goes to all who suffer as human beings and hope that while the Lebanese move on with their lives, so too the Israelis and may be we can move together towards the same healing process. Please do not forget to answer truthfully to the plight of the Palestinians, they too have suffered your vengence that you came with from Europe to Midleast. Make the Palestinian your partners in peace and stop "breaking their arms" and make them feel at home, their own home too. The tide of MENA culture is changing and you, yes you, do not want to be left alone. Come of the I.V. life support that you are living from since 1948 and jump right into the middle and be part of the fabric of MENA. Its time to take of the I.V. and breath the culture, the air of MENA and share with the same as you have done so for thousands of years with your neighbours. Salm/Shalom
48. To Al Living Safely in Canada
Al Watcher   (08.14.06)
Shut up with your rude comment to a man who just lost his son who was defending Israel. Is that not enough of a sacrifice for you? Where is your son? How's life at the cottage this summer? Are the mosquitos biting? The greatness of Israel is that David Grossman can stand up in the middle of a war and ask that it be stopped. Right or wrong, that is his right and that is why Israel stands unique in the Middle East. That he lost his son is a great loss as is the loss of every soldier in Israel and civilians on all sides. There is nothing wrong with advocating for peace but there is something vile and disgusting about hating a person for it so much that on the day his son dies, you attack him. If you are a Jew, why not find your way out of our people, you don't belong.
49. A SAD DAY FOR ISRAEL
Leah ,   Jerusalem   (08.14.06)
My deepest condolences to the Grossman Family. May you be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem. Ironically enough, I am in the middle of reading "Someone to Run With..."
50. to 12, 13, and their alike
m.d. ,   here   (08.14.06)
your comment is repulsive and repugnant you just showed your ugly face and soul with no human feelings. you are nurturing hatred to anyone else holding different ideas than yours hatred is eating you away learn to practice: בנפול "אויבך " אל תשמח especially when one isnt an enemy, grossman isnt your enemy ! but i doubt you are capable to rise over your soaked up hatred , only intelligent people can do that btw, why arent you here practicing what you preach for others ?...fight ..fight...
51. Hezbollah and children
kim daniels ,   tel aviv israel   (08.14.06)
I don't like your sarcasm - the children weren't Hezbollah firing katyushas. But the Hezbollah fired katyushas from the children's living rooms - on purpose. Golda Meir said we can forgive you for killing our children, but we can't forgive you for making us kill yours.
52. to #39
marta ,   canada   (08.14.06)
what a terrible person you are - to attack a person who has just lost his son. I am ashamed for you. you are the one who should learn to "shut up"

In 1944 the capos did not prticipate in baking and gassing jews. It can change in the second time around. Do you want a position ? A softer one, not herding to the ovens, but just watching thermostats and the temperature in the ovens?
54. 13 The hateful spiteful nasty one has returned to our screen
Talula ,   Israel   (08.14.06)
55. Grossman's loss
isst ,   US   (08.14.06)
The loss of a child is tragic regardless of ethnicity. So, to most of the world, they are in shock at what Israel has unleashed on the Lebanese people and infrastructure. It is beyond comprehension what the Israeli Army via its leadership has done to the civilian population in Lebanon, men, women, children, Christina and Muslim alike. Something is VERY, VERY wrong in Israel. This barbarism must stop, and the only way this will occur is if the Israelis did not feel Big Brother was standing behind them unconditionally in the form of US Christian Zionists/Evangelicals, who most of the Neocons have welcomed and courted. It is a huge mistake and will only lead to very hard times for Israelis if this mindset continues. Israel MUST NOW deal with the Palestinians and Lebanese fairly and release the thousands of political prisoners being held for years in their prisons.
56. in response to #23
isst ,   US   (08.14.06)
It is this kind of arrogance that keeps Israelis so out of step with the rest of the world and is what leads to hatred towards the actions of the state of Israel. How in your wildest dreams can you claim that the Israeli Army's hands were tied, not bombing civilian houses when in fact Israel showed no regard NONE to civilians. They have committed war crimes in bombing Lebanon indiscriminately. You and anyone who thinks this way is delusional. Most of the world is gnashing their teeth at the recent Israeli actions. In the US the expression is Inside the Beltway. Clearly, a majority of Israelis need to get Outside the Beltway.
57. 28 (Efi), 35 (Shlomit), 50 (m.d.)
sk ,   USA   (08.14.06)
28 (Efi): "In Israel when a soldier falls and on memorial day we stand silent and keep silent." Yes, but I am not Israeli, so you should not expect me to abide by Israeli rituals. I do not look to Israel for guidance on any matter whatsoever. 35 (Shlomit): "Distinction between the blood of Jews and Jews, Jews and Arabs, Jews and Christians, is repulsive! I vote Meretz and cried when I read about the boy from Ofrah, and when I read about the boy from Jerusalem." I find it repulsive that you voted Meretz, which does it indeed distinguish Jew from Arab by blood, to the detriment of the dignity and security of the Jew. I have no idea how "bad luck" is relevant; I am not superstitious. 50 (m.d.): "your comment is repulsive and repugnant you just showed your ugly face and soul with no human feelings. you are nurturing hatred to anyone else holding different ideas than yours hatred is eating you away. Learn to practice … [insert some some Hebrew here]." Learn to practice proper capitalization and to write in English when you are communicating on an English-language web site. I find the chorus (from you and a few others) with language like "repulsive, repugnant" tiresome, and I find your attempt at psychoanalysis ludicrous. I am unimpressed by your Hebrew or by your fake Judaism. "btw, why arent you here practicing what you preach for others ?...fight ..fight..." I registered for the draft in the US just as every other male 18 and older is required to do. Why would I go to your country and fight YOUR war? Anyway, I recall that ABY, Grossman, and Oz are always telling us Americans that being Israeli is not the same thing as being Jewish. Find your military from the Israelis, then. I find the Israeli Left utterly heartless and contemptible. You gleefully expel 10,000 Jews from their homes, and you would do the same to 100,000. At the same time, you rely disproportionately on the Orange Israel that you so willingly expel to fight your wars for you. Some of you cry (mock tears, no doubt) for those whose lives you have ruined. The hatred and the hypocrisy are your own
58. 56 (isst) you call that "indiscriminate"?
sk ,   USA   (08.14.06)
The IDF indiscriminately bombed civilian hosues? No. "Indiscriminate" was Hiroshima (which I supported) and Dresden (which I also supported). Anyway, even that wasn't truly indiscriminate: Japan and Germany were the enemy.
59. Talula, honey pot, the censors must like you.
sk ,   USA   (08.15.06)
I have no idea why my response to you was not posted. Given the possibility of human error, I shall summarize. You say I am hateful, spiteful, nasty, etc. And yet, you have said some mighty bloodthirsty things in the past few weeks regarding what the IDF should do in Lebanon. Now, I happen to agree with much that you have said on that topic, but please, let's not pretend to be oh-so-sensitive. 'k?
60. Son of Grossman
Wouters Herman - Ann ,   Louvain, Belgium   (08.15.06)
