Sorry - but the mainstream medical community world wide recognizes circumcision for what it is - a practise that has known health benefits - and does not include mutilation. It's simply the removal of skin. That's all. There are even boys who are born circumsized (though this is not common). Removing a foreskin does not in any way shape or form remove any nerves or nerve tissue or anything other than skin. There is no mutilation involved in circumcision. I live in a household of medical people and am VERY familiar with the subject. And my family members don't write web editorials about it - they publish in publications that are respected in the world of informed medical science.

Just curious as this seems to be a very important issue to you. I read your links and just had to giggle at the multiple references to "unrecorded deaths" resulting from circumcision. The first time I've ever heard anyone use "unrecorded" evidence to support an argument. Interesting debate tactic, they make good points...until they completely discredit their argument in my eyes by cited "unrecorded" complications. Easy to counter the argument though, just simply quote some "unrecorded" evidence that supports the other side and we can all be on a level playing field. Sounds like the arguments the Jihadists use.

Circumcision can be carried out at any age and provides considerable protection against AIDS and other STDs. I was not circumcised until I was 57, but have since found it better in every way. Now I wish I'd had it done about 50 years sooner. To those in any doubt, my advice is: GET IT DONE!

This has become a controversial topic! It's a fact that 80-85% of the men in the world have NOT been circumcised and that NO medical organization in the world recommends it. I taught at the University of Paris 6 medical school for 2 years, and when we were studying the case of David Reimer (whose penis was destroyed during a circumcision), the students were astounded to learn that circumcision is so common in the U.S. "Why?" they wanted to know. Circumcision is NOT taught at this medical school, and it was clear that none of the male students or boyfriends and male relatives of the female students were circumcised (except for Jewish and Muslim students). Christians in Europe do NOT circumcise. None of my male doctor friends nor their sons are circumcised. Sure there can be infections, but then that is why we have soap and water for personal hygiene. (Infections are also a problem if you don't clean your toenails, too.)

The pertinent part of male genitalia that is being removed in circumcision is actually biologically very similar to the skin the covers a female's sensitive part. If women don't need to cut off the skin covering their sensitive part in order to be clean and healthy, then men do not either. I'll let religious groups do whatever they want to do, but there is NO good evidence that circumcision is better for your health, your hygiene, your sensitivity, or your functioning.
