1. Israel to UN: Listen carefully to Hizbullah
Tal Ben- David ,   Jerusalem   (08.16.06)
Israel been duped big time. Israel once again used as the canary in the coal mine. Ha ha, the US and others care for the saftey of Israel yet they race to get a bad cease fire to stop us from doing our job. Do you think the US and France co-authors of that resolution to keep the ruthless leaders of the arab world happy and Israel unsafe were 'unaware' Hezbollah would not disarm? Then of course there is Lebanon itself who are unwilling to disarm Hezbollah just like the PA is unwilling. They don't have to go along with the mandate set for them. History tells them so. Yes. So they laugh and mock those who are too weak to address these issues. Hezbollah, Lebanon, Syria and Iran getting away with murder just like the PA have gotten away with murder. And no one blinks. This is what I mean when I say 'beating up our own simply diverts attention from the real issues.'

3. Who Came to Hezbollah's Rescue ?
Marcel ,   Florida   (08.16.06)
"But then, under pressure from the US, Defense Minister Amir Peretz made a frantic call to Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz and ordered him to stop the division in its tracks. "We need to give the diplomatic process one last chance," Peretz told Halutz. The orders trickled down the chain of command and by the time they reached 366, it had already reached Marjayoun, a stone's throw from the Litani. With the UN Security Council on the verge of passing a cease-fire resolution, the IDF understood on Thursday that Operation Change of Direction was ending, for better or for worse. The IDF was disappointed. Senior officers said they had been looking forward to the fight. Reaching the Litani and eliminating Hizbullah from the villages on the way could have provided, senior officers believe, the victory that Israel has been trying to obtain since July 12. By Thursday night, the chance of that happening was drifting away. The only way to hurt Hizbullah, a high-ranking officer in the Northern Command said, was to use the military. "Diplomatic processes will not achieve the right effect," he said, acknowledging that the incursion up to the Litani was not to be. "The key is the military operation. That is the only way to stop Hizbullah." But the political echelon thinks differently, and from the first day of this war the politicians, senior officers said, held the IDF back from escalating its offensive and hitting Hizbullah hard. First it was the massive air campaign. Then came the limited, pinpoint ground raids. Only when all that failed did Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and his cabinet approve a large-scale incursion into Lebanon and the re-creation of the security zone. This wishy-washy decision-making process cost the IDF lives, according to one senior officer. "A military force always needs to be on the offensive, pushing forward and keeping the enemy on its toes," he said. "When you sit still for too long, you turn into a target and you begin to get hit again and again." That is what has been happening. Over the past 30 days of fighting Hizbullah, the army has lost 83 soldiers, 35 of them this week. "That is what happens when you sit still and don't move," the officer said. "The enemy fortifies its positions and gains the upper hand."

dave ,   nyc   (08.16.06)
As far as Boim goes. Anyone in that cabinet room during the war must be terminated. I love all the cabinet members grandstanding at this point. They look & sound like chickens in the slaughterhouse sqwaking and flailing their wings before their date with destiny. I wish them a painless but swift demise so Israel can recover from this disaster and move on.

"This is what I mean when I say 'beating up our own simply diverts attention from the real issues." This is exactly where the world wants Israelis. As if enough others are not beating up enough on Israel for a war they did not want. If it were not so tragic it would be laughable. Friends of Israel are angry at the way the war was executed. Saying nothing as though there were not a joint UN US resolution for cease fire. .....All the while being good little soldiers saying nothing about the major flaws in the Iraq war. Friends? But hey, everyone needs someone to kick around.

21. Expectations
almann ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.16.06)
Does anyone believe in the validity of Hizbullah and/or the Untied Nations? Has the Untied Nations prevented any wars in its history? Does it only exist to protect terrorist groups whose main purpose is to destroy the lives of other people, in the name of spreading Islam by the sword? My advice is to learn and study history. Finally, people should internalize the state of yhe world in a "modern, progressive'' age..
22. Israel to U.N.
Craig ,   Rockville USA   (08.16.06)
A couple thoughts on this: (1) despite all the initial talk about winners and losers in the "First Iranian War," we will only have a good sense of who actually won or lost when we know how the end game plays out; (2) If Hebullah is disarmed, then Israel (and the rest of us!) will have won an enormous victory, irrespective of the boastful talk from Nasralleh, Syria and Iran; (3) If Hezbollah is not disarmed, Israel had better figure out how to take out the Katushas and then act with a new battle plan; (4) As feckless as the UN is, Israel has to learn how to better play that organization and the world media-- for example, instead of the foreign minister merely seeking a meeting with Anan, Ohlmert ought to dramatically turn up the heat by demanding an urgent Security Council meeting on Hezballah's refusal to disarm and he ought to demand a meeting every week in order to keep the issue in the forefront; (4) Israel ought to make it absolutely clear that it will not withdraw until the international force is in place and that it has actually begun, with the Lebanese Army, the dismantling of Hezbullah; (5) Israel ought to make it clear that it won't wait forever for that dismantling to happen, and that if it doesn't happen soon, Israel will feel free to take action on its own; (6) the Israeli people ought to understand that their action against Hezbullah was both brave and noble, and that while there were certainly mistakes made in the battle plan, Israel forced the "international community" to at least recognize the Hezbullah problem by the ferocity of its attack on Hezbollah-controlled Lebanon. Your job, now, is to not let the rest of the world "move on" from this danger to some other less stressful topic.
23. #14 Israel not France & will never surrender to Islamofascis
RA   (08.16.06)
And Hezbollah didnt deal any harsh blows to Israel. You Arabs are lucky the leadership in Israel is so weak right now they wont even let the IDF do its job. Even so, Lebanon and Hezb got wrecked.
24. THANKS to the STUPID Israeli VOTERS

25. FROM USA for the lebanese
los angeles   (08.16.06)
actually most comments I have read that are actually intelligent and make sense are from the the Israeli's and Americans... and the ones from Lebanon are just ignorant attacks. To progressive, modern societies thats obvious. Since you can't uphold your own country, I guess how can the rest of the world expect you to interact on an intellectual level. Maybe instead of buying into terrorist groups that the world does NOT recognize, you'd be taken more serioulsy.

I wonder if the frogs learned anything from the harsh blow dealt to them by the Nazi's? Do you still have your white flags available for the muslim infestation in your pathetic country?
29. To Lebanese
Michelle   (08.16.06)
"Please stop blowing HOT air" That's not coming from me...that hot air is from all of the fires you losers have had to put out. "First, you have no clue what your talking about" Oh yes we do. You're just too stupid to realize the danger Hezbollah has brought to your country and when you come whinning to the world after they start mistreating you....I get to tell you to shove it!!!! "if you have a point why dont you come down to ME and make?" Typical savage response. Threaten those who disagree with you. And you have the nerve to call Israeli terrorists?
30. #29 Michelle Thank you...
