1. I'm all for inquiries and a formal comission, but...
Flavio ,   Sao Paulo, Brazil   (08.18.06)
...I'd like Israelis to be cautious about it; better to be safe than to unjustly blame someone who is not guilty. I remember the Agranat Comission and I remember poor Dado Elazar; it took many years to become clear that, in spite of being ramatkal then, he was not guilty - but he carried the burden for the rest of his life!
2. Only 100 people protested against Olmert?

Back during the Yom Kippur War I remember the atmosphere of the country was really of gloom. 3000 dead in three weeks with thousands more injured. It really felt like gloom. I remember Gold was forced to resign and many aspects of that war still has not been made public. There needs to be a inquiry now why the passive response the bad supply system the political defeatism of the leaders to wipeing out Hezbolloh.

Ertok   (08.18.06)
Olmert, Peretz and Livni - all must go. To be replaced by G_d knows who - but someone else with a different mindset is needed - must be given the chance to explain what they would do if they were in the driver's seat. Its an abhorrent situation.
11. Israel in Great Danger! DECLARE UN RESOLUTION NULL & VOID !
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (08.18.06)
Israel in Great Danger! DECLARE UN RESOLUTION NULL & VOID ! The anti-human rights Jew-hating UN supports terrorist attacks against Jewish innocents. This evil humanity-hating organization instructed Israel that Jews are not allowed to defend themselves. Why do our nations' leaders support this wicked organization? The UN is a threat to Jews and every innocent on earth: Our World: The Olmert government must go Caroline Glick, THE JERUSALEM POST August 15, 2006 Already on Sunday, Annan sent a letter to Olmert instructing him that once the cease-fire is put into effect, the IDF will be barred from taking action even if it comes under attack... The Knesset must vote no confidence in this government and new elections must be carried out as soon as the law permits. If the Knesset hesitates in taking this required step, then the people of Israel must take to the streets in mass demonstrations and demand that our representatives send Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, Defense Minister Amir Peretz and their comrades out to pasture... Because of the Olmert government's failures, ever greater battles await us. As the dangers mount by the hour, we must replace this misbegotten government with one that can defend us.

Karen R ,   USA   (08.18.06)
That's an old American proverb meaning that when you're in the middle of something hazardous or difficult you don't make drastic changes - you will probably end up worse off than before. We still don't know how soon the war will resume - next week or not for five years, so we're still in the middle of things. As much as I think Halutz should have stayed in the Air Force, firing him now would bring on low-level chaos. Let other more experienced ground war types be appointed to advise him specially (i.e. hit him over the head gently when he forgets tanks don't fly at 30,000 feet). Put Olmert on notice that he'd better shape up because the "day after" might bring new elections - but don't try to fire him now. Who will take over? There would just be another round of fighting and paralysis just when we need it least. Peretz is doing his best, but he bought too heavily into the IDF mythology. Maybe we'll need someone tougher and less compliant - but still a civilian, thank you. Most of all, we need a sense of our own ability to bounce back. After all, look what happened in 1973. However, let's wait for the wolf to be driven from the door before we start trying to throw each other out the window.
16. Weak Showing - But a Start

Either dazed or apathetic, Israelis are as lax at wiping the slate clean as Olmert & Co. were in waging a war. Let's hope they come out of their cafes & start rolling heads.

With bibi handling finance the defense budget will be cut again and then there will be even more empty warehouses for the reserves. When he was min of fin they cut the defense budget without thinking. No anti missile systems,no days of training for the reserves,no food and water.Let him become the min of fin for the arabs. Ya'alon was the chief of staff when the hizbullah was bringing in missiles and rockets. When they were building bunkers and other infrastructure in so leb.Why didn't he speak out?Go public and resign? Yishai represents a party of draft-dodgers.And we do not need a president if we have a prime minister.A waste of money! Finally do not send them home, they will only plot to return to power or use stooges to work for them.Life imprisionment, without being able to communicate with the outside.
21. OLMERT RESTRAINED IDF. PREVENTED IDF FROM WINNING the WAR
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (08.18.06)
Israel loses Lebanon war WND Jerusalem bureau chief says Olmert restrained IDF 'at every turn' August 14, 2006 By Aaron Klein WorldNetDaily.com ... Israel lost the war in Lebanon on all fronts. This is so largely because Olmert refused to allow the Israeli Defense Forces to do its job. ... the IDF presented Olmert with several battle plans it says could have devastated Hezbollah within an estimated three weeks. The plans, drawn up and improved upon over the course of several years, called for an immediate air campaign against Hezbollah strongholds in south Beirut; aerial bombardment of key sections of the Lebanese-Syria border to ensure the kidnapped soldiers were not transported out of the country and to halt Syrian re-supply of arms to Hezbollah; and the deployment of up to 40,000 ground troops to advance immediately to the Latani River... To the dismay of military officials here, Olmert did not approve the plan... ...the main smuggling routes between Syria and Lebanon, sites very well known to Israeli intelligence, were essentially off limits to the Israeli Air Force... When Hezbollah met Israel's air campaign with massive rocket attacks against northern Israeli communities, the IDF again presented Olmert with a plan for a large ground deployment to the Latani River. The Israeli Prime Minister...approved only a smaller ground offensive of up to 8,000 soldiers who were not allowed to advance to the Latani. ...Olmert limited the IAF to strategic bombings only. The air force was not allowed to clear the way for ground troops to enter... And so the IDF – with a force one fourth the size it asked for – engaged in heated, often face-to-face combat over the course of weeks with a well-trained, well-armed Hezbollah militia that had planned with Iran for up to six years for this battle... ...during Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice's visits here, the IDF was actually asked by the political echelon to halt most operations and troop advances for up to 36 hours while negotiations ran their course... Military leaders now charge that some troop battalions, instructed to hold positions outside villages but not to advance, actually became sitting ducks for Hezbollah anti-tank fire, which killed at least 35 Israeli soldiers... Tens of thousands of troops were put on standby in northern Israel, but were not allowed to enter Lebanon... ...The cabinet, though, left the timing of the new operation to Olmert, who held the advance back until Thursday morning. By Thursday evening, the IDF, which charged ahead from four main fronts, reached the Latani River and even beyond in full force and prepared for an intense battle to overtake the areas used by Hezbollah to fire rockets. The IDF estimated it would need another four to six weeks to successfully wipe out the Hezbollah infrastructure in the areas... But a day later a cease-fire resolution was adapted... Hezbollah remains intact, Israel's enemies emboldened ... Hezbollah has won the war. It put up an incredible fight against IDF forces paralyzed by Israel's leadership. The terror group maintains a good deal of its infrastructure in south Lebanon and still has the ability to fire hundreds of rockets per day into Israel... For Israel, an international force on its borders will impede the ability of the IDF to operate with freedom during any future conflict with Hezbollah... The cease-fire doesn't place an immediate arms embargo on Hezbollah, but only calls for future talks on stopping weapons transfers to the terror group. This leaves Syria and Iran free to rearm and regroup Hezbollah... http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=51519

24. The New Yom Kippur
Nicolaus ,   San Francisco, USA   (08.18.06)
There is not doubt that Israel's ambitions grew with its earlier successes in the wars against rag tag armies of Egypt, Jordan and Syria. The dreams and successes were translated in a sense of 'self-righhteousness' and at times out-right anti-Arab racism, many Israelies would probably denounce in saner moments. The gradual decline in the relative military capanbnilities of israel, from the Yom Kippur war to the latest Lebanon escapade, need suggest to Israel a different course, given that the use of nuclear weapons is likely to be self-destructive, physically and in the eys of international public opinions - and that: to find a peacful formula to co-exist with the Paelestianians, the Syrians, the Egyptians, Jordanians and the Lebanese. You know, it is like Global Warming. If the opportunity is not captured now, the relative military ca[pabilities of the Arabs may become the undoing of the 'Zionist dream.' With Global Warming we have ten years before the point of no return. I am afraid it is not 10 years for Israel. The successes of Hizbullah can be emulated elsewhere in 2, 3 years? Hizbullah would send the instructors... NC.

28. It should have been hundreds of thousands
Richard Berger ,   USA   (08.18.06)
There should be not hundreds, but hundreds of thousands of protestors demanding the resignation of these cowards. Their actions have sentenced Israel to several new wars in the coming year or two as the emboldened Arabs attack unrelentingly a state that is leaderless and without courage. We need new leaders and we need to finish the job Olmert left undone or there will be blood to pay for many years - far in excess of the cost of winning this engagement decisively.
29. Where is the vote of NO CONFIDENCE?
