2. Small Token Operations accomplish nothing
Marcel ,   Florida   (08.19.06)
The defeatist wimp who rules Israel attempts to show he is a strong man by his weak and timid operations. It's not working because Olmert the man of delusional disengagement is not fit to rule Israel ,that is ,if Israel is to survive.. The fact that Puppet Misister Olmert backed down from every one of his stated goal's in his kid gloves conflict with Hezbollah and that two IDF sooldiers were abandoned is a resounding failure. The fact that Hezbolah is around walking tall and preparing for another even more deadly round is a resounding failure for Israel. The fact that Olmert went along with such a worthless cesasefire reveals how inept he and his Kadima party are. The foolish Israeli voters elected the weakest and most corrupt decievers to rule over them. Kadima is the way to disaster for the nation of Israel .
3.  ISRAEL GOVERMENT IS LYING
Lebanese ,   Lebanon   (08.19.06)
In the morning IDF command denied all about the operation & in afternoon they told about one killed officer & 2 injured, once more israel goverment proves its foolishness by showing aLL the world that it doesn't matter about UN RESOLUTIONS GIVING TO hIZBOLLAH MOTIVES also not to fulfil what he must to ,the other important thing is once more showing to all that Hizbollah is always ready to defeat IDF anywhere in Lebanon & that IDF is very weak to fight in such near battles

6. My mistake. I apologize.
Steve G ,   Kew Gardens, NYC   (08.19.06)
Shame on all of you. Hezbollah was completely disarmed under UN resolution 1559. The moral force of the entire world accomplished this . . the same chorus of nations objecting to Israel's 'defense maneuver' this day. We should be proud and grateful the UN removed Hezbollah from conflict by disarming them those many months ago. Of course, I could be mistaken . . .
7. Relief then disappointment
Joe ,   Cincinnati Ohio USA   (08.19.06)
"FINALLY" I thought.... Finally, someone will destroy Hezbollah. Israel talked the talk but did not walk the walk! Your soldiers are STILL GONE and the enemy is REARMING. You have lost. I am sad and disappointed and ANGRY. YOU MUST NOT QUIT !
8. To #3: Hizballah, master of lies / 'IDF Weak'?
Flavio ,   Sao Paulo, Brazil   (08.19.06)
Hey fella, Hizballah is goig to be pushed beyond the Litani and will have 15,000 intl troops between them and the Israeli border. Furthermore, their losses (but human and material) were huge, in spite of theri deliberate efforts to conceal info about it - in fact, so huge they are having to be rearmed from Iran&Syria via smuggling. Not to mention they managed to cause the widespread destruction of Lebanese infrastructure, im such a degree that the country will take many, many years and billions of $ to recover. Frankly, you Lebanese have being fed with Hizballah bs and propaganda for so long that you became blinded to the reality! Open your eyes and lool around you! PS: Hizballah'd better not to believe theuir own crap about IDF 'weakness', fo next thim Israel may not show the restraint it has shown for the last weeks... a full blast IDF retaliation will surely send Hizballah back to the Stone Age, nonstop!
9. What Will Israel Do About This?
Mike ,   Bangkok, Thailand   (08.19.06)
So, what is Israel going to do about this? I will make a recommendation. Launch a non-stop bombing campaign against Syria until they stop sending arms to Hezbollah. Destroy their economy. Make them feel pain. Syria provides arms to Hezbollah because they do not pay any price for doing so. Make them pay. So far, Syria is getting away with murder. They hurt Israel, but they don't get hurt. Demolish their economy. It's not complicated.
10. Let Bibi go get them and be done with it.
Michael ,   Phoenix, USA   (08.19.06)
For the sake of the State of Israel, Olmert, Peretz, and Kalutz should resign and let Bibi Netanyahu form a new government. Bibi will then go back into Lebanon with full, unrelenting force. He will remove Hezbollah as a threat, deal a crushing blow to Iran and other extremists in the region, and set the stage for a region-wide peace settlement. Begin won peace through strength just as Reagan brought about the fall of the Berlin wall. Concessions have never brought peace with dictatorships. Instead they have been viewed as weakness, and turned the mighty into prey.
11. I support Israel in its defense
attila the hun ,   new york   (08.19.06)
It is obvious to me that Israel is being forced into an aggressor position. They have the difficult choice to become the occupier, as we have had the same difficult choice in Iraq and Afghanistan. Perhaps one day, when the Lebanese take back their country from fanatical religious zealots, there will come a peaceful coexistance of peoples.

use your mind a little, olmert started this campaign saying openly that the goals were to disarm Hizbollah, pushing them to 30 km from border & to free the 2 soldiers ,in begining USA ,europe & israel didn't let even UN to stop fire giving time to israel to achieve its goals ,even Rice told this openly in Rome & NY ,cause they were sure that they will during 7-10 days as the smart businessman Halutz promised them .after one month israel itself accepted the resolution 1701 without achieving any of its goals, now tell me smarty what you think about why israel accepted this ,is it because it's so strong & defeated Hizbollah ?I tell you more economically Lebanon lost about 7bln $ israell about 15 bln in Lebanon 61 Hizbollah guerillas were killed at the time when 430 IDF soldiers were killed ,in Lebanon 1000000 people left their houses at the time when 3000000 israelis fled away or lived in shelters. the only thing in which israel weren't defeated is by killing civilians about 1000 in lebanon (more than 300children under 10 years),40 in israel & in destroying civil buildings.Sitting in Sao Paolo under sun i think you are having some problems with your head.Be careful.
14. Fwantz: we can be sure of three things:
Cato the Younger ,   USA   (08.19.06)
1. death 2. taxes 3. Fwantz will do everything in its power to oppose Israel's blockage of Syrian/Iranian arms. Why? Because Fwantz must cater to the wishes of the Islamic hordes surrounding its major cities. These hordes are capable of two things: 1. burning down cities together with their cars 2. voting the Eternal Socialists into power. GALLIA DELENDA EST

I am pulling for Israel 150%, but you guys left you ass hanging out!! You knew that if the UN and crew got their hands on a cease-fire that the hezbos would re-load!!! There will be a next time and when you get your foot on the snakes neck again, take it's head!!!! As far as the UN is concerned, bitch slap them out of the way!! Be Strong, Be Brave!!

17. #9 Sure you want to bomb Syria?
Steve G ,   Kew Gardens,NYC   (08.19.06)
Naturally, the thought of bombing Assad and his gang back to the Bronze Age is very tempting. But what happens when the jihadists topple the weakened Alawi minority behind Assad and take over? Unfortunately the choice of regimes in the Middle East is "Horrible or Worse". I doubt that screaming Islamist fanatics in Syria will be any improvement over the beady-eyed Assad.
18. Foolish words by our Lebanese Friend
Nathan Phelps ,   Cranbrook, Canada   (08.19.06)
Come on now. Don't believe everything you hear from your local media. If you haven't learned anything in life yet, learn this...most of what you hear in the media during war is lies. Both sides do it as part of their strategy. It's your job, like every other person, to discover the truth for yourself. Let's don't waste alot of time comparing numbers when no one will ever know for sure how many died on each side. But know this my misguided Lebanese friend...in the final analysis Israel can and will crush Hizbullah and any other entity that takes it upon themselves to injure or anihalate the nation if Israel. We can talk until the moon turns to cheese about who has the more righteous claims against who...about who killed who's ancestor...about who stole who's land...none of that will change the simple truth above. So, if it makes you feel better to believe your numbers, if it makes you happier to think that Hizbullah won "a historic victory" over the vaunted IDF, then you just keep nurturing that fantasy. But in the meantime pray to whoever your god is that your Hizbullah or Syria or Iran or some other foolish Arab country doesn't fancy themselves capable of destroying Israel while you're still around. Hizbullah runs around flaunting their "unvictory" while Israel looks critically at their performance and makes adjustments to insure their survival.
19. Please stop shouting!
Ziggy Marley ,   USA   (08.19.06)
We can all have our opinions, but the fact is that not all our opinions are true.....Please stop quoting the bible...the fact that Jerusalem has been mentioned several times in the bible means it is true. Most of the elite Jewish and I will say majority of Jewish people believe in greater Israel. You feel superior to the Arabs, and your principle belief that Jewish people are special, they are God chosen people by itself is a racist which is contrary to the teachings of Judaism. Israel will have peace and peace only when it withdraw from all Arab lands; from the Golan heights, Lebanon and to Palestine. Israel will never live in peace until it is ready to pursue a genuine peace wit h the Arabs. You neuclar weapons will not save the state of Israel. Is the state of Israel ready to make peace? I don't think so...b/c they are arrogant, feel too superior and they belief that the only way forward is in their terms...keep dreaming

jesse ,   USA   (08.19.06)
The bible judaism subscrubes to does indeed state that they are "god's chosen people" so why would they not believe they are god's chosen people? Second, #5 gave an accurate description of the history of the jewish state Thrid, the israeli's did in fact withdraw from lebanon and gaza as requested by the international community before this most recent conflict. Look at what it got them. If this is not a peace gesture I don't know what is. The true question in the search of peace is simple. If the israeli's disarmed what would happen? If the arab's disarmed what would happen? The two answers in my humble opinion formed carefully through study of modern history is this: First question: The israelis would be utterly destroyed Second question: There would be peace, the israelis have only reacted to agression, they have not, in modern history been the agressors, ever. Lastly, the israelis have never used, or threatened use of nuclear weapons so your assertion that nukes wont save israel is empty in the regard that they arent there as an offensive, or a defensive weapon, only as, as is the case with all modern civilizations, a political deterrant. The civilized nations of the world prescribe to MAD, Mutually Assured Destruction, while the 9th BC mentality of certain arab nations does not. The very act of withdrawal from gaza, and lebanon prior to this conflict is an act of peace and trust. Don't expect the israeli's to trust the arabs or the international community again anytime soon, we haven't given them a reason to.
21. goverment lying?

Before you say they are lying take a look at your own goverment first. Every time Isreal gives in you want more it will never be enough for you untill they are gone. on the fight they are being restraint in not wanting to kill innocents but next time they will not longer be innocents they will come in and wipe the slate clean

You need General Sherman-Geronomo-George S Patton and Gengus Kwon. Do you think that if you were lossing they would give you a rest and let you have the chance to rearm? If you do your nuts When dealing with barbarians you must give no quarter you must be The Badest of the bad. Total destruction is the only option you have. I hope the USA will let you go in and finish the job. Next time do it right and finish it . They have swared a oath to kill all of you. The Hell with the united nations do what you need to do Please don"t keep giving them chances to kill you
23. It was true then, it is true now
Tony Starr ,   Scottsdale, AZ   (08.19.06)
Quote from Golda Meir: I don't hate the Arabs for killing our children, I can forgive them for that. What I cannot forgive them for is forcing us to kill their children. How sad that it is so true.
24. Israel determined to stem Hezb
Keith Robinson ,   Abingdon, VA   (08.19.06)
Near the end are the words below. What commando operation? This is the first reference I have read anywhere that mentions a Commando Raid" with "fierce fighting". Please elaborate or refer me to relevant urls. thanks, Keith ... Saturday's commando operation will not be the last. From reports by Lebanese TV channels it is clear that the operation targeted a base that served Hizbullah operatives responsible for smuggling arms and people from Syria. An aerial attack on the base is possible, but a ground operation allows the collection of valuable intelligence material and the assassination of top operatives. It is obvious from news footage shown on Arab TV networks the valley which lies 15 kilometers west of Baalbek was heavily guarded and that a fierce fight took place. The political message Israel sends to the international community by carrying out commando operations deep in Lebanese territory is that if the United Nations fails to implement key article stated in Resolution 1701, like implementing an arms embargo on Hizbullah, Israel will do so itself. This also applies to the return of the two soldiers kidnapped on July 12.
25. Why Stop?
DAve ,   Tampa, FL   (08.20.06)
As an American, I am totally for Israel wiping out Hezbollah. I feel for the population but Hez are a bunch of terrorists just like Al Qaeda and are Cro Magnon. The world will be much better without the Hez as will the USA.
26. Please stop shouting
Yousef Abidad ,   Raleigh USA   (08.20.06)
Dear Ziggy, As a moderate muslim I am ashamed of my fellow muslims in lebannon. They are lost like you. The Koran teaches us to live in peace, but only the just will win Allahs favor. The Hizbollah are unclean and will die with shoes on their heads. They along with their sponsers in Iran and Syria will cause the dealth of millions and millions of us for the elite few who do not follow the teachings but those of the satan. It is up to us the moderate majority to stand up and show the world that most muslims do not beleive in the rantings of the few . Y Abidad

Look at what has been reported and then what really happed. The raid on Qana. Hezbollah said 49, turned out to be 23. Another attack was claimed to be 29 and turned out to be 1. The little girl said to be killed in an Israeli raid but was actually killed in a playground accident. The blast on the Gaza beach which was blamed on the Israelis and then turned out to be a Hamas shell. The pictures of Green Helmut guy rearranging wounded. The so called dead man who was resurrected in later photographs. The poor woman who lost her apartment (twice). The doctored Reuters photos. I could go on and on, but why bother. You evidently have yoyur mind made up and are not concerned with the facts.
28. Reply to #19 who doesn't understand what "chosen" means
(08.20.06)
The word "chosen" means just that. It doesn't mean better than or superior to and it is not "racist." The other peoples of the earth at the time of Abraham "chose" to believe in idols and animism. Its not just that God "chose" us, it is that we "chose" Him. Get it?
29. Civilian casualties
Curious ,   Anytown, USA   (08.20.06)
Please, Lebanese, tell us how to distinguish between a hizbullah member and an ordinary Lebanese civilian? Is there some subtle difference in clothing? Is there some kind of secret greeting? Maybe a ritual handshake? What is it? How can one tell whether the man on the missle launcher is a kindle Lebanese villager or a bloodthirsty murderer determined to kill all the Israeli civilians within range of his weapons?
30. Withdrawal...
Kruel ,   Walnut Grove, USA   (08.20.06)
Ziggy, please! Have you not seen the result of Israel's withdrawal from Gaza? Have you not seen the video footage of the destruction and looting by Hamas? Did you somehow miss the videos of Hamas setting up their missle batteries and launching into Israel? This is not about a few acres of "Arab lands" - it's entirely about the Muslim's determination to expunge Israel from the face of the Earth. The only withdrawal that will alleviate Muslim attacks on the Jews, and that just temporarily, is the total withdrawal of Israel from the Middle East.
