31. from chaos comes calm
alessan ,   usa   (08.21.06)
look - there is more to all this than meets the angry eye. jumping down the throats of your three stooges is playing right into the chess game nasrallah and khameini concocted. is there any conceivable way more could really have been done without longer range heavier payloads and a fullscale invasion? and what do you think that would have triggered. more or less loss of IDF life? hmmm? anger is fine - but Israel is trying to juggle defense, pr and the concept of rational behavior in a wildly irrational zone. what you all should do is count on the islamic community to cave in on itself and perhaps speed up the process. befriend and work with the arabs in your community, blog the living daylights out of the resting and silent Iranian majority who despise their leadership and have far more in common with you and your intelligence than their nutty leaders. you want action? it's not just in the hands of Olmert or even a healthy Sharon. It's in your ability to figure out new ways to split the arabs and turn them against themselves. but the bottom line is that Israel was just an excuse like Hussein's last war in Kuwait for taking power. Hezbollah doesn't want Israel - ridiculous. they want Lebanon and maybe they should have it. Shiites are in the majority and yet that dumb constitution of theirs is still arcahaic and insisting that a Christian and Sunni have the power. And Nasralla is working his power masterfully. Scaring off Lebanese soldiers and Unifil - who could defy him? Let Hezbollah take over Lebanon - he will anyway - he showed he's the master of military might - a king within a kingdom - and keep your fingers crossed that he is more docile when in power than when he is not - keep your fingers crossed that he will rise against his 'mother' Iran and piss them off. Keep your fingers crossed that Syria freaks and war starts between Lebanon and Syria and keep your fingers crossed that the mullarchy we call Islam - a religion with no designated heir and a whole lot of tribal warloards - will assert its divisiveness and leave Israel alone and spill their own blood. which they are very good at doing without compunction. but blog around and help the helpless in Iran and elsewhere who DO want more, who DO want democracy who DO want civilization who DO love their women and children who DO love poetry who DO love equality who DO wait for their moment to strike. get to work!! and stop kvetching.
32. THEY BETRAYED ISRAEL AND THE KIDNAPPED IDF, THEY HAVE TO GO!
Nannette ,   London, UK   (08.21.06)
Israel needs a strong, democratic government, whose main concern should be the protection of the Israelis, not the opinion of internationals. Israel needs a patriotic, strong, solid government, which will implement a proper constitution, change the way elections are held, where Israelis have proportional voting and elect their local MK, instead of voting for one party. If this happens, you'll see a lot of corruption disappear overnight, because no-one will vote for anyone with dirt on their hands. Get a new government who will protect the people, the land, and won't be manipulated by the international leaders who don't care about Jews!
33. The real issues
Chanan ,   Jerusalem   (08.21.06)
Kol ha’kavod miluimnikim. But the problem is deeper than shortages of food and equipment and the problem affects all the IDF infact the entire nation. I stand with you and support you. But let’s address the actual and underlying issues: 1. Poor military command 2. Poor training 3. Lack of discipline 4. Poor selection 5. Poor intelligence 6. Lack of preparation 7. Bad procurement 8. Inferior quality weapons 9. Re-inventing technology that is already available at the expense of the tax payer 10. Poor social and family discipline 11. Arrogance in civil and diplomatic culture 12. Nepotism, oligarchs and corruption Now until the real issues are addressed our nation will grow weaker and our political echelon more foolish. Another PM, a different cabinet or even a different Mate won’t solve the issues only a change in our arrogant and hubris ways.
34. KEITH, NY, USA
Morenito ,   Amsterdam   (08.21.06)
hey Keith .it is better to be quiet and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. ...Nuff said, take Mark Twains advice, and don't open your frustrated piehole ever again!LOL
35. I want to help overthrow Olmert
Yakov ,   Beit Shemesh, Israel   (08.21.06)
Israel faces maximum danger, with Olmert, Peretz, Peres, and Livni, at the chain of command. The nation must rise up, go to protests in every city, and demand their resignation. No white washing thru corrupt political committees allowed. How can we organize to throw these inept politicians out?
36. protest all you want
ll ,   earth   (08.21.06)
but your enemies are celebrating a dillusional win and are reloading.
37. HEAR O ISRAEL......
J. St. Michael   (08.21.06)
We know you are hurting. Wars aren't always funded right away. BUt right now you are playing into the hands of your enemy. "HEAR OH ISRAEL THE LORD GOD IS BUT ONE GOD" If the American Colonies had done what you are doing now, during the American Revolution there would be no America. If there was no America in 1776, there may not have been an Israel in 1948. ISRAEL you are the Chosen Of God. Trust in the Creator of the Universe who Loves You and made you for Himself. Yes, you have suffered more than anyone ever should have, but the Lord is faithful, calm down and look to Him. His remnant throughout the world loves you and supports you in prayer. Stop letting satan, your enemy divide you. Remember, he is the father of lies, and his followers are perpetrators of propaganda. Rise in dignity, wait on the Lord. What would Moses think right now? What would David think right now, you holding his star? Is this the wisdom of Solomon? When has anything good come out of a mob in Israel???? Pull together, and rest in God's love, and stop worrying about whether the world, who rejects your God, approves of you.
38. Management Problems
Pete ,   USA   (08.21.06)
Sadly, the management of the war against Hezbolla sounds suspiciously to me like a war managed by bureaucrats in Washington, DC. Speaking as an American citizen, I would warn Israelis against allowing a war for survival to be managed by DC armchair generals. We need only look at the performance of these armchair generals in Vietnam, Somalia, Iraq, etc. etc. to know that you don't run a military operation from desks in the Pentagon, a place so far removed from the reality on the ground. If you don't fight to win the first time around, the problems will come back to haunt you another day. You don't need to look any further than the on-going insurgency in Iraq to see the truth of this. The US failed to do what was necessary to win in Iraq and instead the DC bureaucrats succumbed to world opinion and the UN, neither of which have American interests at heart. You KNOW neither has Israeli interests at heart. So take the advice of an American who has been there and done that. Do what needs to be done, and don't allow DC armchair generals or diplomats to run your war.
39. # 31 Some advice
sidney ,   USA   (08.21.06)
"keep your fingers crossed" is not a policy.
40. to #20, olmert is not fighting terror, he is rewarding it
aaron ,   ra'anana   (08.21.06)
41. To #35 - Are you politically active?
Avital ,   Haifa   (08.21.06)
I agree the dangers are many and something must be done if we are to survive. But, while public protests have their place, it is informed grassroots political involvement that can produce the changes needed. Too many of our citizens are willing to leave the "politics" to others. Too many have felt that what went on in Jerusalem was of no concern to them in their daily lives. Perhaps now they will understand that what is decided in Jerusalem, and by whom, makes all the difference.
42. Street Protests/New LeadersDECLARE UN RESOLUTION NULL & VOID
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (08.21.06)
Weak leaders must be replaced with strong leaders! ISRAEL MUST SURVIVE! The anti-human rights Jew-hating UN supports terrorist attacks against Jewish innocents. This evil humanity-hating organization instructed Israel that Jews are not allowed to defend themselves. Why do our nations' leaders support the UN resolution and this wicked organization? The UN is a threat to Jews and every innocent on earth: Our World: The Olmert government must go Caroline Glick, THE JERUSALEM POST August 15, 2006 Already on Sunday, Annan sent a letter to Olmert instructing him that once the cease-fire is put into effect, the IDF will be barred from taking action even if it comes under attack... The Knesset must vote no confidence in this government and new elections must be carried out as soon as the law permits. If the Knesset hesitates in taking this required step, then the people of Israel must take to the streets in mass demonstrations and demand that our representatives send Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, Defense Minister Amir Peretz and their comrades out to pasture... Because of the Olmert government's failures, ever greater battles await us. As the dangers mount by the hour, we must replace this misbegotten government with one that can defend us.
43. UN RESOLUTION GAVE VICTORY to LEBANON-HIZBULLAH-SYRIA-IRAN
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (08.21.06)
Extreme HATE: Responsibility for compliance of the resolution is given to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, infamous for his fanatical hatred of Israel. Extreme DISHONESTY: The UN determined in 2,000 that Israel had withdrawn to the international border. The resolution places Shaba Farms - legally belonging to Israel - up for negotiation. The laws of nations forbids land taken through aggression. The US, EU, UN unlawfully seek to reward Lebanon-Hizbullah-Syria-Iran for their unprovoked war of aggression against Israel. Extreme RACISM: The damage and destruction to Israel is enormous. Israel's economy is devastated. Destruction in some Israeli towns is far worse than experienced by most people in the Lebanese cities of Beirut and Sidon. Profound Jew-hate and injustice is revealed in the resolution which asks for financial and humanitarian assistance for Lebanon the aggressor - but no assistance whatsoever for Israel the victim. Extreme DECEIT: Equivalency is made between Iran's Hizbullah terrorist army' vicious unprovoked acts of war against Israel - over 4,000 rockets fired at Israel and Israel's self-defense operations which the resolution refers to as "offensive" military operations. Hizbullah's rockets are packed with ball bearings to maximize the suffering of Israeli victims - the same murderous Islamist hate of 9/11 and 7/7 - an inhuman hate for non-Muslim infidels that engulfs our world in endless barbaric attacks in the Islamist war against innocents. Images show Hizbullah using high-density residential areas to launch rockets: http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,,19955774-5007220,00.html Extreme DECEIT: The Lebanese government and Hizbullah are one and the same. The US, EU, UN are fully aware that Hizbullah terrorists are part of Lebanon's government and that the Lebanon government actively colludes with Hizbullah: YNETNEWS (08.12.06, 16:52) Siniora accepts deal, praises Hizbullah ...steadfastness of resistance fighters in field was very important,' http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3290107,00.html Extreme DECEIT: In calling for disarmament of all armed groups in Lebanon, the US, EU, UN are fully aware Hizbullah will NEVER disarm and know they are giving Lebanon-Hizbullah victory over Israel and massive victory for Syria and Iran - who sponsor Hizbullah in Iran's war against Israel and the free world. In the global war to bring all nations under Islamic subjugation, the US, EU, UN empowerment of global jihad is a shocking betrayal of Israel and the world's non-Muslims. 44. Olmert & Bush are crazy
Ted ,   NY, USA   (08.21.06)
The UN cannot be trusted. It is virulently anti-Israel, anti-US, and a tool of the thugocracies. Get US out of the UN, and stop meddling in Israeli defense policy.
45. Hear O Israel
gary ,   san francisco   (08.21.06)
Michael is correct, the mandate for the state of Israel was God's and it was given much sooner and with much more profound authority than was given by the UN. You can accept or reject this statement, but if you reject it then it is very difficult to make a valid claim for the nation of Israel separate from the mandate/blessing of the world. And it is clear you can't/won't get it. I would venture to say that if you had to go to the UN today to vote for the formation of the land of Israel it would not happen. Golda Meir said something to the effect that Europeans can't hear you because their ears are full of oil". If , on the other hand you believe Israel was part of God's promise then there is something I would also like to suggest: pulling out of the West Bank, Gaza, even parts of Lebanon are in fact withdrawing from the land given back to you. Its like you were fighting the enemies of 3000 years ago for the same land. It seems to me the fundamental problem is that Israelis needs to decide whether they answer to God or to themselves. If you do not answer to God then you will always be degraded by leaders who give only "political" decisions rather than principle based decisions. Political decisions are what you are getting with Olmert so they are based on "feelings" rather than absolutes. The Unites States is not immune to this either. To several of you who ranted about Bush....considering he is taking a lot of heat in the US for pushing the war on terrorism...I think that may be a misnomer....would you rather have Clinton who gave nuclear capability to North Korea, supported selling strategic technology to China, and would have bowed to UN opinion at the first hint of disfavor from the UN about Lebanon? Two misnomers worth mentioning: quit calling Arab's Palestinians; you only support the "world's" view of it as a separate country. The second misnomer is the "war on terror": It is a war against Muslim imperialism. Refer to the current article by Vox Day at worldnetdaily.com
46. Shmolmert and his gang resign now
Michael ,   USA   (08.21.06)
Until it is too late. The new government must prepare for a new round. Israel can not rely on loosers. Mass demonstraions can force those guilty in a crime agains people of aisrael to resign.
47. They actually scare me!
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (08.21.06)
They have done things which are endangering this country's wellbeing and the wellbeing of our soldiers!! We are NOT a Third World country!! We are one of the most advanced in the world and it is such a 'busha' for our soldiers not to have had food and water in the field!! And not to have the right equipment!!
48. Why so many IDF casualties?
Y ,   Israel   (08.21.06)
Why no statement of protest of IDF/govt policy that values the lives of Lebanese "non-combatants"/human shields over the lives of our soldiers? Why no statement of protest over the insane "tohar haneshek" policy of the IDF? Why did our boys enter Lebanese villiages that were virtually untouched by the IDF instead of leveled? Did our boys die for favorable coverage on CNN and BBC? Why were there so many IDF losses from "firefights" and hand held RPGs when we had complete freedom of action from planes and helicopters? What orders did Olmert receive from Rice concerning war conduct? We saw how Rice ordered Olmert to stop bombing for 48 hrs. Its time to question the anti-Jewish/ anti-Torah (=anti moral) values underwhich Israel fights wars.
49. #20 PROTESTORS WANT TO DEFEAT TERRORIST ENEMY
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (08.21.06)
The protestors are NOT screaming "stop this war". On the contrary, they want Israel's enemies - global jihadists - defeated! Article: "They must realize there's a cruel enemy out there that must be defeated". Patriotism and part of being a good citizen, is speaking out when leaders make decisions and follow a course of action that endangers the nation and ultimately endangers the free world. Neville Chamberlain was a dangerously weak leader who appeased the Nazi Hitler. Chamberlain was replaced by Winston Churchill who helped save Europe and the free world. In our day, Israel and the worlds' people are greatly endangered by weak, terrorist-appeasing world leaders.
50. Organize protests in every city and town
jason white ,   afula,israel   (08.21.06)
Advertise it and have a demonstration in ever city and town. No b.s.!We want them to pay.The politicians and the two-bit commanders of the army. The spin doctors for this regime and their other stooges. Jail is not enough! Also the families of these disgraced politicians and officers should be removed from politics and the army.
51. olmert
tc ,   usa   (08.22.06)
if he cannot run the country correctly then have a recall election and vote him out. long live israel and the God of abraham, issac, and jacob (israel).and i pray for the peace of jerusalem
52. to #11
Larry ,   USA   (08.22.06)
They should go and also Bush and Condi with them! and yes US, UK, and UN keep their noses out of Israel's business!
53. Freedom isn't free....
Dan ,   Atlanta, USA   (08.22.06)
It's always good to want (and pray) for peace. It's negligent, however, to ignore our responsibility with regard to the threats of madmen around us masquerading in the name of islam. Radical demagogues have existed for centuries, and have always tried to inflict their will on society at any expense. Iran, Syria, and North Korea are no different, and they must (and ultimately will) be stopped. The shame is that the world seems full with self-absorbed, "peace at any price" people like Cindy Sheehan, Cynthia McKinney, and Jimmy Carter, as well as many current world leaders, who want to "hope" this problem goes away. It will not. Iran will be stopped, without question. The reall issue is what damage wil they do before they are stopped? Nuclear/biological/chemical attacks on the US, Britain, or Israel? One certainly hopes not. I fear though, that the generation of leaders that liberated the world from the Hitler may not exist today. Thank God for Blair and Bush, that they have the courage of convistion that sees the world for what it is, rather than the hypocritcal rhetoric from the UN and the rest of the "always blame the US" crowd.
54. Benjamin Netanyahu
Todd ,   San Antonio, TX   (08.22.06)
Why in the world was this guy elected in the first place... Netanyahu would have acted decisively.. not just "half-way" doing the job.. He would also not be giving away Isreali land! Re-elect Netanyahu!
55. NO CONFIDENCE-OLMERT!
Alexander ,   Blountville, USA   (08.22.06)
The people of Israel really listened to a wolf in sheep's clothing when they listened to former U.S. President Bill Clinton and his personal Charactor assasin, Jim Carville, who did a whack job on former Israeli PM Netanyahu. Clinton was mad at PM Netanyahu because it was Bibi who inadvertently told someone he THOUGHT he could trust ( but you can't trust too many news media people these days) about Clinton's affair with Monica, who just happens to be a Jewish girl and that put Mr. Netanyahu in Bill's doghouse. It got an EXTREMELY WEAK EHUD BARAK elected PM, who was quickly dispatched for PM Areil Sharon, who QUICKLY reneged on HIS promise that the settlers of Gush Katif and the West Bank would not be moved. Then, after everyone had a mortgage to pay, he threw them ALL OUT of their houses in Gush Katif, but made them keep on paying their mortgage payments with no homes to live in.And Mr. OLMERT has the SAME IDEA IN MIND FOR THE WEST BANK HOMEOWNERS! I know and understand that many of you thought it was certain people, such as Mr. Netanyahu who was corrupted. But I ask you, did HE EVER make a UNILATERAL AGREEMENT TO GIVE UP LAND TO YOUR ENEMIES? NO, he would NOT go forward with the land for peace deal WITHOUT the Palestinians going one step themselves.Of course, the Palestinians NEVER TOOK the FIRST STEP! Who turned out to be right? Barak gave up the area of Lebanon in 2000 so Hezbollah would be on your border. And not only did Mr. Sharon toss out the homeowners in Gush Katif, he gave HAMAS the land UNILATERALLY so THEY TOO could launch rockets. ONLY has Mr. Netanyahu NEVER taken such risks with the innocent lives of Israeli civilians. And if Mr. Netanyahu HAD been Prime Minister for THIS war with Hezbollah, you can bet your life that HE WOULD have allowed the MIGHTY Israeli Defense Force to USE it's might to root out the cancer, Hezbollah and Hamas! The corrupted people of Likud were the VERY ONES WHO FORMED KADIMA PARTY! Next time, which it looks to be VERY soon that you folks will be having elections again, let it be Prime Minister Benyimin Netanyahu-AGAIN!
56. The BEST way to join the protest...
Alexander ,   Blountville,USA   (08.22.06)
Is by giving the BOOT to OLMERT and putting Bibi Netanyahu in the PM chair where he belongs!
57. To #11, Would Bush accept?
alexander ,   Blountville, USA   (08.22.06)
Well said ! Bush is NOT PRESIDENT OF ISRAEL. And if Israel's Prime Minister would only stand up to him,( Like Bibi would), Bush wouldn't DO the same as Clinton did to Mr. Netanyahu. BUSH would NOT send in a "HATCHET TEAM". Nor would Bush cut AID to Israel. AMERICANS WOULDN'T ALLOW IT! But Bush wouldn't try it either! He's more HONORABLE than his PREDECESSOR!
58. To # 31 Chaos to calm?
Alexander ,   Blountville,USA   (08.22.06)
Talk is cheap, so let me throw in my two cents worth. There's an old saying that goes," Either POOP OR GET OFF THE POT! The same holds true with war. Anyone who FIGHTS A WAR NOT TO LOSE, just as OLMERT DIRECTED THIS ONE, WILL LOSE! And indeed, the Israelis are even saying they lost. If Bibi had been in office, the IDF would have lost FEWER than they did, as Netanyahu would have unleashed the FULL FURY AND FORCE OF ISRAEL! HEZBOLLA WOULD NOW BE WIPED OUT, there'd be NOTHING HEARD FROM HAMAS, at least for a WHILE. But it's ENEVITABLE that this war WILL FLARE UP AGAIN. That's because Israel did not go in to WIN a war, they went in NOT TO LOSE, and they DID LOSE BECAUSE of Mr. Olmert's inept guidance of the IDF.
59. Israel Protests
