1. RABIN and BARAK WERE WILLING TO NEGOTIATE WITH SYRIA
Arik Silverman ,   Milwaukee USA   (08.21.06)
Where are the no confidence votes in the Knesset?
2. HE TALKS SO TOUGH , REMEMBERS NOTHING
DACON9   (08.21.06)
''"There are those who say that Basher Assad should be embraced. I say clearly, let's not forget the thousands of missiles that fell here in the last month'' WHY DIDNT OLMERT REMEMEBR THAT WHEN HE ABOUT FACED OUT OF LEBANON AGAIN AND AGAIN? HE MADE THE WORLD A VERY DANGEROUS PLACE FOR US JEWS. HE IS NOT A LEADER FOR ISRAEL. HIS CHOSEN CABINET IS POOR. THE WAR ENDED HORRIBLY. ISRAEL BECAME A WORLD JOKE. AND JEWS ARE LAUGHED AT. MANY PEOPLE SAW THIS COMING. MANY PEOPLE WARNED ISRAEL NOT TO VOTE FOR HIM. MANY PEOPLE BEFORE THE FACT. ISRAEL CONTINUES TO DREAM NOW WITH ASSAD , TOMORROW IRAN NEXT ISRAEL WILL WANT TO CLONE HITLER TO APOLOGIZE TO HIM. SHARON IS ANOTHER DREAM. OLMERT AND SHARON ARE THE SAME. YOUR AS GOOD AS YOUR LAST CHECK. WAITING FOR THE NEXT WAR MAY MASHIACH COME, SOMETHING OLMERT REJECTS, BUT WE CIVILIANS HAVE TO PREPARE OUSELFS BY DOING A LITTLE MORE IMPROVING OURSELVES.
3. Get real Mr. Olmert
Terry ,   Toronto   (08.21.06)
'Israel won't negotiate with those who give refuge to terror and who is part of the axis of evil' Now what will happen if the Assad is gone and the Jihadests are in the Golan . They are the masters of what is called guerrilla warfare . Assad had protected the Golan for over 30 years now , that is a fact . You don't want BinLaden to pray in Al Aqsa Mr. Olmert ,or do you ?
4. It can not hurt to talk, so talk to Syria
Mark ,   USA   (08.21.06)
5. ZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
malcolm   (08.21.06)
Dichter wants to hand it over ASAP. Tough Guy Olmert Blusters. That means he'sprobably sent Livni to sign the contract. Time to flush this toilet on the Kadimah/Labor experiment
6. Get Real Mr Terry
kate ,   jerusalem   (08.21.06)
You must have some other version of an Israeli/Syrian history book. In the few years that Assad had control of the Golan he turned it into the most heavily mined area in the entire world. Until today sappers have failed to clear the entire region. Assad (the Senior, of course) launched weekly attacks into Israel from the Golan. Assad also launched wars on Israel from the Golan. Assad the Junior has nowhere near the power or fortitude of his father - but he does have the same hatred towards Israel. The Golan Heights were annexed to Israel in 1981 - because of Assad's beligerent use of the area as a staging ground for war. There has been peace on the Golan ever since.
7. it's evil
yair ,   kdumim   (08.21.06)
it's evil to give "ramat hagolan" to suria.
8. olmert shhhhhhhhhhhh
frank ,   tunis   (08.21.06)
why all our minister has to say what they going to do. in the meantime they don t know if they are able to do what tey say????
9. Olmert wants us to think he has a spine... haha!
Zionist ,   Israel   (08.21.06)
Don't believe a word Olmert says. He would give up his own grandma, much less the Golan Heights if he thought it would keep him in power. All he cares about is 2 things: his image and his bank account. His image is already destroyed but, since I heard he got a great price on his house, at least he's left with his bank account.
10. the real evil
monee ,   malaysia   (08.21.06)
Olmert you are the real evil of evil.
11. What Else Won't You Do and Change Your Mind A Day Later?
H ,   Jerusalem   (08.21.06)
Is it forgetfullness or just following the direction of the wind? Both reason are valid enough to resign now. Israel needs a firm prime minister who will do what is good for Israel NOT what is good for the UN or US or UK. Olmert insisted he will not stop the war unless the kidnapped soldiers are released, the Hizabllah disarmed and international troops at the border be placed. He kept his promise as he always does...
12. Won't Hold Our Breath Until "Negotiations w/ Axis of Evil"
H ,   Jerusalem   (08.21.06)
13. Terrorist states have no honor
Johnson ,   USA   (08.21.06)
Why bother they never live up to their word, and its ok to lie to the infidels.
14. no wonder there's no upper echelon communication
(08.21.06)
15. 3 Well its possible that might happen..
freedom ,   canada   (08.21.06)
Then again before it does both Lebanon and Syria would be reduced to a total pile of rubble. I guess the choice is Syrias and Israel. Eventually, something will give the guerilla warfare you talk about just destroys countries. So do you really want Syria, Lebanon and Iran to look like Afghanistan. The choice is in the hands it would seem of the Islamic fascists, both Assad and Sinoira are BOZOS. The same clown suit can be put on Ahmedinejad.
16. To ## 1, 2 and 3, from another Jew in the Galut
Flavio ,   Sao Paulo, Brazil   (08.21.06)
Hi, I also have my opinion about Mr Olmert' skills and decisions as the Israeli PM, of course, but I'd rather keep it to myself and not broadcast them, especially in an Israeli newspaper forum, for: 1. I do not live in Israel 2. I do not pay my taxes there 3. I do not vote fot Israeli elections, and last but not least 4. My children will not have to go, at the age of 18, to a dangerous, 3-year-long military service (unless they choose to do it by themselves). Therefore, I ask you, American and Canadian citizens sitting comfortably in NY, NJ, Miami, LA, Toronto etc etc: why do you feel entitled to criticize the Israeli government, this one or any other else? where do you right to tell Israelis what to do and what not to do come from? Do you think that financial support gives you any special right whatsoever? Unless you have close relatives living is Israel, for instance, a son, I do not recognize any legitimacy in your criticisms! I'd like you to think a little about the whole and broad meaning of a word so familiar to all of us: chutzpah. Oh, and just in case: alyiah gates are always open, feel free to go to nearest Jewish Agency branch if your urge to criticize Israel becomes incontrollable. My objections to your criticism will cease to exist the very moment your El Al plane lands at Ben Gurion Intl.
17. axis of evil: USA, UK and their little baby Israel
mo ,   Montreal, Canada   (08.21.06)
these are the real axis of evil for all what they did and they are doing in crimes against humanity. US, and UK for killing all the people in Iraq, imprison and torture large number of people for no reason sometimes, and breaking all the human codes and rights, transfaring innocent civilians illegaly against their well into prisons from europe, and leaving their soldiers loose in Iraq. and Israel for everything they did and they are doing in lebanon and Palestine. for the civilians they killed in lebanon and Gaza, for the checkpoints which imprisoned the palastinians in west bank, for the wall of shame, for stealing the palastinians land and making it their own. for all this and more, USA, Israel, and UK are the real axis of evil.
18. Peace with Syria
MK ,   USA   (08.21.06)
Peace with Syria would be a giant step towards peace in the Middle East. It's like a dream. I wish it could ever come true.
19. For true peace of mind
Steven ,   San Francisco   (08.21.06)
do not follow the advice of Avi Dichter and those who share his opinions.
20. SYRIA'S IDEA OF PEACE
STEVE ,   LONDON, ENGLAND   (08.21.06)
The State of Israel cannot entertain a cordial relationship with Syria so long as Syria maintains its support for Article 1 of the Arab Charter on Human Rights in its present form: Article 1 a. All peoples have the right of self-determination and control over their natural wealth and resources and, accordingly, have the right to freely determine the form of their political structure and to freely pursue their economic, social and cultural development. b. Racism, ZIONISM, occupation and foreign domination pose a challenge to human dignity and constitute a fundamental obstacle to the realization of the basic rights of peoples. There is a need to condemn and endeavour to eliminate all such practices. FULL TEXT: http://www.logos-net.net/ilo/195_base/en/instr/arab_1.htm The word ‘zionism’ must be deleted from the text of this article or there can never be a real and meaningful peace with Israel. 21. I get it...
SHAI ,   Israel   (08.21.06)
...Olmert won't negotiate with them until they stop arming Hizbollah. So, all we have to do is wait for them to finish arming Hizbollah, and then it will be OK. Right? Elections, NOW!
22. Stupid rhetoric
Michael Steiner   (08.21.06)
Olmert is not fit to tie Arik's shoelaces. Arik knew when to make war and when to make peace; Olmert suck at both. Israel will have to talk to Syria sooner or later so we might as well cut all this posturing and get on with it. As many have pointed out: better have Assad on, let's call it, "our side" than have Syria be taken over by the type of maniacs running riot in Iraq or Iran.
23. Stick to it, no second thoughts.
Hans ,   Markdorf, Germany   (08.21.06)
24. I used to be so optimistic....
marc ,   london   (08.21.06)
....about Israel and her growing stature in the world. Now, I'm afraid to say that I am very anti Olmert and the present government. I am even more concerned that having just played a very bad hand, Olmert might risk doubling up and taking unneccessary, uncalculated risks in order to win back what he just lost.....that is the quickest way to become a very big loser.... The answer is a difficult one. Suddenly trying to make peace with the neighbours, after the last humiliating month, is a huge show of weakness and sadly not the right choice. Beating your chests and threatening anyone in the neighbourhood is also not the right thing to do.... What is really needed is a new "face" of Israeli politics - someone young, who understands that "firm yet fair" has to be the way forward. Someone who is somewhere in the centre of the political spectrum, but who can identify with both left and right. More importantly, however, is that there must be change...and very soon. The world views Israel as a weakened force and the Arabs feel it more than ever, so a change with a firm way forward is needed. The old guard who revert to "land for peace" to appease the Arabs must go. They still do not get it that this will not work. Keep the land - if the Arabs want peace, they can have it, but not at the expense of making a tiny country even smaller....small enough to drive through (in a tank) in a day!!! Israel is important. The survival of Israel shouldn't be an issue, or even a debate, but the weakness of the present government has allowed the rest of the world to re-open the debate. So please, Israel, sort yourself out..... Ps no Israel in The Middle East is not a world I would want to think about living in. It would mean that the Muslims won (and anhialated a whole country), control all the oil and have the confidence to take over the western world as well....
25. It´s easy to understanding!

26. HE TALKS SO TOUGH , REMEMBERS NOTHING
Morenito ,   Amsterdam   (08.21.06)
...even with capslock on truer words havn't spoken here in long time.
27. Olmert, Dichter, Perez, Peretz ET AL Must Go
YItzi ,   Jerusalem   (08.21.06)
Dichter is insane, the definition of insanity is to repeat the same negitave action over and over (giving land for peace) and expecting a different result. Our politicans are all failed, our policies are all failures. Liberalism should be declared dead. We need new leadership and not these old worn out socialists who cannot adapt to the new realitiy. We need fresh young lions of Judea. We need sabras with fire in their veins who will smash terrorists. When we are attacked we should not give up land to the loosers in an atttempt to buy they off. We should annex the land we conquer and add it to israel driving out the arabs who live there so they will understand that attacking us is useless.
28. Olmert is acting as Bush's proxy
Y ,   Israel   (08.21.06)
I don't understand. Olmert won't even negotiate with Syria because of Syria's "support for terror" and being part of the "axis of evil". Yet to Fatah, Hamas, PA, PLO, PFLP, Islamic Jihad etc. Olmert was for giving Gush Katif (including all the homes, synagogues, greenhouses, etc) and wants to give the Jewish heartland of Judea and Samaria with the homes, businesses, religious and cultural institutions of some 100,000 Jewish residents. What, the arabs who kill Jews from the "territories" are the good guys and the Syrian arabs that support Jew-killing by proxy are the bad guys? Either Olmert is extremely confused or he speaking as a proxy for George Bush. We a new government who puts Israel and the Jewish people first!
29. To #17 - Mo(hammad)?
Alex ,   Montreal, Canada   (08.21.06)
You must be high on something. If you think US/UK/Israel are evil, just for comparison look at how Syria deals with those who oppose it: http://www.answers.com/topic/hama-massacre
30. AXIS = IRAN, IRAQ, NORTH KOREA - NOT SYRIA!
