The best analogy I have seen is that of Hizbollah being a wasp, repeatedly stinging Israel the bull. Its too bad that the IDF a Hizballah more reason to be proud and to brag. Not only did the IDF loose the war but it also lost the sympathy of those Lebanese that regard Hizballah as an enemy by bombarding some areas and peop that have nothing to do with hizbalah.

Only the dim would say that the IDF was defeated and they do. Those with any brain can see that political restriction saved the bacon of Lebanon/Hezbullah. Lessons will be learned on both sides and next time things will be completely different. Probably the biggest asset that Hezbullah had was its speed of communication, that is the humble mobile phone, that could transmit information faster than Olmert allowed his army to move and therefore gave the terrorists an advantage. Meaning that next time all innocents have to be considered enemy and must be made to realise this and get out if genuine. Refugees fleeing a flattened land are the biggest asset an army can have as it lowers the moral of the defending enemy. Has Israel forgotten this? A touch of terror on the terrorist is good.
