31. Good idea, but......
Steven ,   Biloxi, MS, USA   (08.25.06)
I like the Iran plan but fallout does travel.
32. Its all americas fault
keith ,   dallas, TX   (08.25.06)
America brought 9/11 upon itself by supporting israel's occupation and by invading iraq in 1991. The so called terrorists are basically freedom fighters fighting to be free from US imperialism. I think the US will be a safer place if it can just live and let live without wanting to control everyone else.
33. What HASN'T the US misjudged?
SR ,   NYC   (08.25.06)
With the Idiot-In-Chief in the White House and Republican scumbags in power in Congress, controlled by corporate and financial interests, the country is on the express elevator going in opposite socio-economic direction to that of India, China, Japan, Korea, and EU. If American schools, both public and private, have for two generations been producing either complete morons or selfish, money-hungry assholes. Combine that with thoroughy corrupt political system and a culture that's blind to everything but making money, what sort of effective "intelligence" agencies can we expect?
34. Not Arab but Persian
SR ,   NYC   (08.25.06)
But subject to the same disease - hateful, fanatical Islam. An acute case too. What is this Iranian moron's problem? Israel has no territorial disputes with Iran.
35. One simply can't overlook the hard facts...
Harmonious Nation   (08.25.06)
Indeed, killing is not a desirable road to peace, but when your foe operates on an "infidels must die, no negotiations" mentality, there are no other realistic options. These fanatics desire nothing but the destruction of all humankind not belonging to the Islam faith, even beyond that a large motivator is the promise of paradise for the cleansing of the unfaithful. Surely it is an unpleasant thing to talk about, but you could tie that in closely with the fact that education isn't particularly great in that part of the world. When you're promised paradise, one tends to take drastic measures if one doesn't know any better. On the issue of Israel, I feel sorrow for the Israeli people. If you want to argue about territory, simply look at a map. The country that is Israel is not that large, yet Muslims still try to take and take from what little they have. The Israeli people have been generally the most productive and forward-thinking society in the Middle-East, as most all of the Muslim nations are stuck in a culture that is a millenia old. Of course, one need not completely discard religion and culture, but at the same time one simply can't ignore that sometimes culture must adapt for the sake of real progress and improved quality of life. I think people could afford Israel what little they do have left, and leave them be. Quite simply, the Israelis don't need to kill Muslims to do well for themselves. To allow a nation like Iran, who hasn't had the most wonderful track record with the US, to amass a nuclear program was admittedly assanine, but that does not eliminate Iran's responsibility. They haven't been completely honest, as with other nations developing these programs. For all the scrutiny that the US must face all the time on everything anyone in the international community thinks up, it seems only fair that the US should be able to question those who are rather overtly against the American ideals and are capable of taking hostile action against the US. But personally, I believe the UN has far outlived its usefulness as well, it seems to be nothing more than a committee established from smaller power-hungry European nations whose main goal is to oust the US at every possible turn. In reality, I see a plan of consolidation being the most logical course of action for the near future; to pull back all military forces from all host nations, to sort of 'inventory' what we do have left of our military, and to properly assess who our real enemies are. And to put some serious scrutiny on the socialist-minded US media. I would even hazard to put the charge of treason on the media for many instances of leaking information unnecessarily to the public. While it's nice to know what's going on in the world, sometimes things just need to stay on a "need-to-know" basis. If people can accept that, I believe things would run a slight bit smoother. I hope you all can look at this and other related issues rationally instead of from an overly-proud arrogant standpoint. When you can look at things for face value instead of for 'secondary meanings' and other the other touchy-feely principles, many things seem a lot clearer and quite a bit simpler to make decisions on.
36. 12 Maybe you should figure out who is
freedom ,   canada   (08.25.06)
occupying what, before you analyze. There will never be peace in the region, at least not a lasting one. Which is too bad, your government represents the people, albeit badly, but is antisemetic. Be careful what you wish for. Peace is good, but with a fascist fanatic in power, who knows what will happen.
37. 19 Well, its an easy solution.
freedom ,   canada   (08.25.06)
But a very brutal solution, you were not looking at that simplicity. Its likely not the best solution, regime change is.. Now we have to figure out how to do that.
38. It's late in the day.
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem Israel   (08.25.06)
It's late . Iran is on the verge of nuclear weapons. For the United States this is a question of great urgency. For Israel it may be a matter of life or death. What is Israel doing to stop Ahmadinejad? This should be our first priority.
39. As Palestine
NoSuchThing ,   L.UK   (08.25.06)
To those who think Israel has taken over Palestine, that is a white, in your face lie. Palestine was a name given by the Romans to denigerate Israel after they turned the place upside down. There was never a country called Palestine that Israel has taken over.
40. #8 You're getting warmer!!!!
Maria Kennedy ,   Baton Rouge, USA   (08.25.06)
I hate to say it, but your words ring true. I have studied a little about the New World Order, and the weakening of America was high on the priority list. We can't have one super power don't you see? Why do you think Clinton gave our most secret military nuclear technology to our enemy in the Korean War and the Viet Nam War, the Chinese? Why did we say we could control a whole country in the middle east with just over 100,000 troops? OOPS, because we underestimated the threats? Right! And I've got a nice dry home down here in the gulf for sale. Hello? Wake up and smell the radiation everybody. we've been sold out from within. By both parties. Let's be honest here!
41. RE #8: Administrations Mistakes
Ray Valera (NYC) ,   New York City, USA   (08.25.06)
It does not help that, in addition Bush being unable to articulate his plan and its progress, the administration is being sabotaged at every turn by some radical Democrats and every single extremist radical social movement in the country, the latter, in my opinion being funded from outside sources. We can lose this war despite our weapons.
42. It's all Americas' Fault????
Colleen ,   Detroit, MI   (08.29.06)
Hitler once said, "If you repeat a lie long enough, it becomes truth" In response to Keith's comments under "Its all americas fault", he states that 9/11 came upon us because we support Isreal's occupation and because of our 1991 invasion of Iraq. Please educate yourself of the historical "facts" concerning how and when Isreal "occupied" As for the invasion of Iraq in 1991, this is simply an excuse. We have been called "The Great Satan" long before this event.
