Two things make USA need a state in the middle east: 1.an easily manipulated state. 2.a state with deterring force that it had the will and whim to use. Both have to go hand in hand. So loosing the second one makes the first useless. Israel now is of no use to the USA.

If Israel wants to be a true western power they're going to have to learn to adopt the west's humane policies.

Israel continually plays into the hands of terrorists by giving them incredible leverage and assistance in radicalizing the population and recruiting troops. Israel refuses to recognize that collective punishment for the actions of a few is both bad strategy and bad psychology. It has never worked anywhere! F-35 "the second next generation" is 100% israeli (all the technology-electronics is 100% israeli). The Vertical shit, Israeli... You know who designed it ? Israeli Pilots because they are the best trained pilots in the world that have lots of flight and fight hours. The best Pilot in the world with the TOP killing (shooting down enemy aircarfts) is Israeli with 17 shootings... Israel and the US do a "demo" fight every 2-4 years and it always ends in a stricking win to Israel. Last time it ended 467 US AirCraft shot down and 1 Israeli AirCraft shot down. BTW, when the F-35 will go public Israel will get it 2...

A neutron bomb would work better. No little duds left for accidents and minimum damage to the local infrastructure . Wasn't that what a lot of the fuss was about.

I am disgusted by most of the posts that so causually talk about the use of napalm and cluster bombs. I spent a year in Vietnam and was in Beirut during the '82 Israeli invasion of Lebanon. I saw and cared for the people who were killed or horribly wounded by these terrible weapons! I wonder how many of you have seen the horrific wounds and heard the crys of pain.

Israel should plead INSANITY in case it is tried for war crimes! Only way out!

Not one of the talkbacks has noted that the use of cluster bombs is LEGAL and that the USA stipulated that they be used only on military targets. Let the USA critics remember that the cluster bombs were dropped IN AREAS THAT WERE BEING USED TO FIRE KATYUSHAS and that in the 3 days that they were dropped, Hizbullah succeeded in firing over 600 Katyushas from the very areas where the bombs were dropped. I dont know how many Hizbullah figters were killed and they will not let on. If many dud bombs remain, that is Hizbullah's fault. The new UNIFIL force can be gainfully employed in finding and immobilising these duds. No matter what Israel does in its own defence, the critcs will pounce!
