From a religious perspective there is no evidence connecting Mohammed with Jerusalem. Jerusalem has been the capital of the people of Israel for more than 3000 years on a national and religious level. It has NEVER EVER been the capital of ANY Muslim or Arab entity. I think you'll find that not only did Muslims prevent non Muslims from praying at what are non-muslim holy sites but they actually stole them from non Muslims. The only exception is 'Moses' Tomb in the Judean desert that the Muslims invented.
