6. Numerus Clausus
Sagi   (08.27.06)

7. Sorry for the man... but -
Kate ,   Jerusalem   (08.27.06)
Not getting a child into a school of choice is kind of a well known phenom in the entire western world. If you get so worked up about it to lead to serious enough stress to trigger a heart attack though - the problem is not the school's selection process. I didn't get into the school of my choice. My life didn't end. I turned out fine. I'm more or less where I want to be. It took a bit longer - but that's life sometimes. Maybe it's time to focus on the real problem: Playing-the-blame game. Success is not a product of which school (or wardrobe, or extra activity) - but of a good upbringing and internal fortitude. Parents - you are required to give the best possible upbringing. If that doesn't include the top everything - then teach your children how to work with what they have. I'm sorry this man had a heart-attack. It's tragic. He had a bad heart. Blaming it on an unfair system only gives his children an excuse to fail though. That's wrong. If the Askenazi seminaries really are soooo much better - then you've already stated the problem. Deal with the Sephardic school system - demand it do better and fight for that.
8. #4 - lets take it to the Hague?!
Kate ,   Jerusalem   (08.27.06)
...are you exaggerating? ...could you possible be serious? Regardless - you should be utterly ashamed of making such a connection - and ready to humbly apologise to anyone you've offended (and believe me - it's a lot of people). You need to take a trip to Yad VaShem. REALLY - like NOW.
9. Love they neighbour?
Menachem ,   Jerusalem   (08.27.06)
It seems that soemtimes Charedim have special interpretations for the Commandments which are divided into two sections:"Those to do" and "those not to do". Reading this tragic story one feels that those seminaris teach that the Mitzva:"Love your neightbour" applies only to Ashkenasim. As a religious Ashkenasi I advise SHAS to go and set up Seminaries that will outshine the Ashkenasi ones and then they can show that they can also fulfil the Mitzva that way.
10. Kate No. 7 & 8
Harbona   (08.27.06)
so your name is katerina as in yekaterinsburg ? hmmm! is that a jewish name? sounds germano-slavonic! hmmm! jewish? you come across, as hareidi ashkenaz, but not as G-d fearing! those multitudes whom you claim should be offended because of No 4 talkback, if they were of the human race, would not be offended. take the beam from between your eyes! truth is, the poor and misled deceased, should not even have considered sending his daughter to that sinful den of sodomites. (u did not like no' 4's analogy of WW II; hopefully u will find mine -sodomites- as more apt, certainly from the scriptures).
11. understand
Shara Dillon ,   winfield,usa   (08.27.06)
I recently had a serious heartattack over worrying about my daughter who is 17 and left for a months vacation to germany from usa. our children are our lives. We want everything for them. I learned that they have to worry a little so that we have to stroke out over them.
12. My daughter didn't get accepted
Aviva ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.28.06)
My daughter didn't get accepted either at the seminary of her choice. She went to a different seminary. To this day my mother is angry because 30 years ago I didn't go to an ivy league college.
13. harbona
annie ,   israel   (08.28.06)
probably a nickname for the hebrew word for crap how could your mindless talkback get accepted???
14. discrimination ??
proud sephardic ,   Neve Iacov   (08.28.06)
Oh really! give me a break So why don't sephardim, who feel so much superior than ashkenazis build for themselves seminaries as ashkenazis did for their daughters ? They get far more money from government than ashkenazi institutions - a lot more. And yet the majority of it goes to men's education. Sephardim are being racist against their own women to begin with and expect their ashkenazi brothers to solve their own problems, and even have a nerve to put the blame on them. What quota are they talking about ?, if sephardim are so good , WHY dont they create their own education system ? NEVER forget 9 years ago when Rabbi Ovadia Yossef called for a multitude rally at Teddy stadium Jerusalem calling on the duty for sephardim to fight Ashkenic elite. NOW this is SINAT HINAM. Amongst other "enlightened" things he said was that Ashkenazim deserved the SHOA as divine retribution (for what?). So honestly WHO needs them in the Ashkenazi seminars? Good luck to everyone
15. Annie 13
Harbona   (08.28.06)
Harbona, is one of the virtuous characters in Megilat Esther. The Megilla reading always ends with the mention of : וגם חרבונה זכור לטוב biblical commentators speculate that Harbona is really Eliahu Hanavi. But that is too much expecting from alien transplants to know. Before expressing phoney outrage, why not reat Kate's (slavonic Kate) postings?! Crap? Is nothing but a reflection of the writer's mindset. (that was english).
16. Died of broken heart
Philipp Hausmann ,   Zurich, Switzerland   (08.28.06)
It is quite amazing that our sefardic brothers have not managed to open und run a sufficient number of top girl seminaries, considering the great demand. - Why try to squeeze into the established, already overcroweded seminaries?
17. Harbona
Mike ,   USA   (08.28.06)
I can not believe of the the elite mentality by a put forth by Harbona, and the dismissal of ones thought based on their name. My name's not Jewish either... so never mind. Mike
18. very sad
hanina ,   usa   (08.29.06)
we are not in control. that's what we have to remember. And whatever happens means someone else ordered it like a matza ball soup without the matza ball.
19. Sephardim should make their own schools
Mo ,   USA   (08.31.06)
Sepharadim have a great heritage. Why do they feel they must copy the Ashkenazim and attend their schools ?
