...abducting journalists with intention of using them as bargaining chips... or abducting Israeli military personnel. Being a " Grand reporter " in war time comes unfortunately with a price tag attached : uncertainty.

7. Israeli air strike wounds two journalists in Gaza
Spinner ,   World   (08.27.06)
The report told by Reuters!! Only slightly different from this one... By Nidal al-Mughrabi GAZA (Reuters) - An Israeli air strike hit a Reuters vehicle in Gaza City on Saturday, wounding two journalists as they covered a military incursion, doctors and residents said. One of the Palestinian journalists, who worked for a local media organization, was seriously wounded. A cameraman working for Reuters was knocked unconscious in the air strike, one of several in the area. The Israeli army said the vehicle was hit because it was acting suspiciously in an area of combat and had not been identified as belonging to the media. "During the operation, there was an aerial attack on a suspicious vehicle that drove in a suspicious manner right by the forces," army spokeswoman Captain Noa Meir said. "This car was not identified by the army as a press vehicle," she said. "If journalists were hurt, we regret it." The missile struck the vehicle after dark. The armored car was clearly labeled as a media vehicle, with signs on all sides, including the roof. Michael Lawrence, Reuters Managing Editor for Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: "We are deeply concerned at this attack on a clearly marked press vehicle as journalists were doing their job to report the story from Gaza. "We understand that the army says it had no intention of targeting the media, but this incident is totally unacceptable and we urge a careful examination of how this happened to ensure there is no repeat." Both journalists were by the doors, covering an Israeli military incursion into the Shijaiya neighborhood of Gaza City, known as a stronghold of militant groups. Sabbah Hmaida, who works for a local news Web site, was seriously wounded in the legs. Fadel Shana, a Reuters cameraman, received no major bodily wounds in the air strike, but was knocked unconscious. Doctors said his condition was not life threatening. Blood spattered the seats of the armored vehicle and the ground nearby. Israel has often targeted Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip with air strikes during an uprising since 2000. A gunman from the Hamas Islamist group was killed in a later air strike nearby, the group said. More than 180 Palestinians, about half of them militants, have been killed since Israel launched an offensive in June aimed at recovering a captured soldier and ending cross-border rocket fire. Israel withdrew troops and settlers from the Gaza Strip in September 2005 after 38 years of occupation. © Reuters 2006. I can see that it didn't have any ID on the jeep.....i guess the night vision was not working....or maybe their eyes were just blinded by their bias orders....or maybe since they could not get what they wanted, they took what they thought was going to be a cheap shot at someone not knowing it was them.??????? Think about it..... http://news.yahoo.com/photo/060827/481/a768892bd9d94b22b543e95911e31b91&g=events/wl/080601mideast;_ylt=Aj7XzT15JXQ34FkXP6a1xt4UewgF;_ylu=X3oDMTA3bGk2OHYzBHNlYwN0bXA-
9. first time hearing about armored vehicle

This doesn't change anything to the story, if they were targeted by mistake. I have no doubt, because IDF soldiers are not murderers. But we discover through this incident that journalists work under high protection while in the palestinian side: not only bodyguards, but also armored vehicles. This means they are under high threat because of intimidation, kidnapping etc... They are also looking like "parasoldiers", if you consider that a camera could look like a gun from far. IDF soldiers should have established some rules behaviour with the press before this incident. Armored vehicles could also be used by Pal's Gunmen, as they are used to do with ambulances, and it must be prevented.

Personally if I saw a vehicle with a Reuters logo which had “TV” And “Press” written on it in English, Arabic and Hebrew, I would certainly have shot at it. Please can we have more of this - try next time to get the BBC

What do you expect driving around a war zone at night? War zones are bad enough in daylight. I'm sick of "reporters" getting in the way of IDF and then whining when they get shot at. Are they complaining about the FOX crew that was kidnapped and may be killed soon? I don't think so.

World spinner was kind enough to provide a link to a yahoo news picture. And there are more pics of the vehicle. Well, is that what any vehicle looks like after a double missile strike? (Please bring to mind that missile strikes also came in pairs in Lebanon). Did both missiles go through the roof via that narrow dent? (Which in fact looks as if a brick or a rock was dropped on the car). Where is the blast damage? Not tomention that nothing looks scorched, not even the clothes or the hair of the wounded. I say they either crashed their car or were caught in the line of fire (gunfire). Reuters, AP and AFP have a lot of explaining to do for fautox coming out of Lebanon, and also from Gaza. Please consider the following pic of the damage caused by a katyusha rocket landing in the middle of the street and damaging the cars in the vecinity. http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/060814/photos_ts/2006_08_13t232940_450x271_us_mideast Now close your eyes and try to imagine the effect of direct double-missile strike. What would the casualties of that attack look like?
14. No one considers reuters "journalists"
