1. Brilliant piece!!
avo ,   virginia   (08.27.06)
2. Fairness and Justice
Lebanese for Justice ,   To be liberated soon   (08.27.06)
Each time a Lebanese cant get his RIGHTS peacefully from Israel, he/she just needs to kidnap some Israeli soldiers!!! Finally this exchange will happen. I just feel sorry for the many people who had to die in order to achieve what could`ve been achieved without this war. It is time for people in the region to understand that many of their problems could be achieved peacefully, especially if they implement the UN resolutions in related to the conflict. It took Israel over 25 years to withdraw from Lebanon, and over 30 years to realize that it had to withdraw from Gaza. I wonder how many more years it will take before it withdraws from the Golan and get peace with Syria, then the West Bank and peace with the Palestinians. Isn`t time for Israel to become a normal nation who lives according to International law. The Arabs finally made a peace proposal in 2002 based on implementing the UN resolutions for the conflict, but we have to wonder when Israel will come to the conclusion that there is no escape from implementing those resolutions in order to achieve peace.
3. Soul searching
David Latter ,   Herzliya, Israel   (08.27.06)
Who will be strong enought to support Dr Ghazi Hamad's statement that Palestinians need to share part of the blame of their predicament? He clearly understands the implications for his health and career!
4. First time for everything
Shaka   (08.27.06)
Could it be an Arab/Palestinian almost taking responsiblity for his peoples own action. Maybe its too good to be true. He will probably be killed by one of those thuggs he speaks about. But there is a first time for everything and if more Palestinians start taking responsibility instead of blaming everything on the Jews than that is more progress than all the peace plans ever signed.
5. IDEALS?
BORUCH HOFFINGER ,   BROOKLYN NY   (08.27.06)
B"H Compared to what Israel could and should be, it's not too different (some same worse) than the Arabs.
6. one ray of light in the darkness...
oded   (08.27.06)
and the darkness that looms over the "palestinans". oe arabs as a whole is gonig to be a permament one ,unless a drastic measure is taken ... what can you expect, though ,from a rag-a tag clans of nomaeds who claim a land that never ever in the history of mankind ,belonged to them? they just passerbyers.... and then came sharon and evicted the wrong people!
7. End The Occupation: Restore the Land to Israel
emanon ,   USA   (08.27.06)
8. wow
zev ,   haifa   (08.27.06)
1. first nasrallah says he wouldn't have kidnapped the soldiers if he knew there would be war... 2. and now the palis are going through introspection about their stupid ways 3...maybe it's time for everyone in the Middle East to get along...i'm sick of tsav 8...
9. its about fucking time
israel   (08.27.06)
finally a sane palestinian
10. Interesting
fi ,   Great Britain   (08.27.06)
How refreshing - a muslim saying that perhaps they need to look at themselves instead of blaming Israel for everything....hhhmmmm I'd wager that it won't be long until he's murdered by one of his fellow pallys.
11. in a bunch of mad people...one sane
ken ,   california   (08.27.06)
in a group of lunatics there is this one who has a sence of humanity in him.
12. This is no soul searching- Its a COVER UP for the KIDNAPPING
jb   (08.27.06)
They Knew who kidnapped them and where happy about it, untill they were warned by the USA that they will pay a price, so they made it look like they are the good guys.... Who in the world can fall for this BS
13. Are these leaders trustworthy?
KMR ,   Middle East   (08.27.06)
Should they accept the mistakes, then consider only the formula of "Stick" works for them.
14. Three cheers for Dr. Hamad!!!
Sheikh yer Bu'Tay ,   Dar al-Harb   (08.27.06)
Dr. Ghazi Hamad for PM!!! Brilliant! Let's all hope the Pals follow Dr. Hamad's lead.
15. Its About Time
Jewish American ,   USA   (08.27.06)
Wow, I have to say that I am truley shocked, an Arab who finally looks in the mirror. Now my next question, will there be any others like him that will stand up for themselves as a people? My guess is that he will probably be killed by some nut who doesnt want peace, but wants an Islamofacist power instead. This man is saying what the Arabs should have been saying 20 years ago during the first Intifada. Every Arab should listen to what this Dr. Hamad has to say.
16. This Voice of Reason Brings Hope!
stude ham ,   outremont, canada   (08.27.06)
17. Finally A Palestinian With Guts To Admit Their Faults
Nannette ,   London, UK   (08.27.06)
I hope this man lives to take over from Abbas and the duplicitous, but very weak PA. He deserves our respect for speaking the truth, and telling it like it is - that the Gazans could have been self-sufficient and profitable in their businesses by now - if it weren't for their addiction to violence.
18. A ray of light? gimme a break
JPS ,   Efrat   (08.27.06)
Sorry, but Ghazi Hamad is not a household name to anybody outside of Gaza, and maybe not inside Gaza either. History and experience shows that it's not a ray of light in the darkness, but more akin to a light fart in a stuffy room. It' may get noticed for a moment or two, then will waft away and the regular normal stink will prevail....
19. such crap!
tom ,   toronto, canada   (08.27.06)
the hopelessly circular argument that the "occupation is responsible for the occupation" is even wearing thin among the crazies... a year after the end of the "occupation", hamas is almost willing to acknowledge that they might be responsible for some of the mess they have (deliberately) brought upon themselves! will wonders never cease? hamas has done everything possible to sabotage the palestinians' pathetic security forces, and now, instead of "facing the music", is looking for a scapegoat. they ARE the government, and any failure to govern is THEIR FAULT.
20. Mistakes? Ha
HOLLY ,   PALIWOOD   (08.27.06)
Yeah, right, let's dress your low-life, do-nothing pali's in some real sophisticated attire, and call their behavior----MISTAKES! MISTAKE-The staged, Israeli attacks against civilians, filmed by french camera crews for various tv news shows, all parts played by Palistinians, using props like ambulances, rocks, guns and of course--SWARMSSSS of Pali youth and adults, young and old with nothing better to do than hone their craaappppy acting skills.
21. to #2: "fairness and justice"?
tom ,   toronto, canada   (08.27.06)
what planet are you from? if this is the "peace" that comes from israeli withdrawals from south lebanon and gaza, sane people would prefer a war! over 2,000 rockets have been fired at southern israel since the gaza withdrawal, and 4,000 have been fired at northern israel, in the last 40 days alone. if this is the "peace" that withdrawal brings, one can only look nostalgically back at the 30 years of "occupation", when both israelis AND ARABS lived in peace and prosperity. "end the (PLO and HAMAS) occupations now!!!"
22. FINALLY A WORD OF TRUTH AND HONOR!!!
Married to Arab ,   Iarael   (08.27.06)
This is what I have waited to hear for a long time - FINALLY one person in Palestine daring to touch the very core of the problem - the disresputable behaviour by the Palestinian public, the lawlessness and anarchy, the taking of the "law " into one's own hands, each person following his own fancy, neighbour fighting neighbour fighting neighbour... devastating any piece of civilization and civilized behaviour that could have been left in this area, to the very last crumble! A GREAT LOT OF SOUL SEARCHING - and hopefully healing from scars from the past - IS NEEDED BY EVERY PERSON IN PALESTINE. Is THIS the future that you have been waiting for so long?! Wouldn't you like to make something better than the past for the future, teach your children to read in stead of throwing stones, unite in respect with people and gain a respected position among other countries in this world?! NOTHING BUT YOUR PRESENT OWN (VERY BAD) BEHAVIOUR STANDS BETWEEN YOU AND A BRIGHTER FUTURE!
23. PA is learning about responsibility
Mark ,   USA   (08.27.06)
Who paid them to say this?
24. This Voice of Reason Brings Hope! ---
Married to Arab ,   Israel   (08.27.06)
Let's just hope that Dr Hamad will not be lynched and executed in the street by the mobs, like it happened a week or so ago to another person in the area! ANY person who openly disagrees with the present fractioned Palestinian public opinions runs the very severe risk of being executed by the "street court" - especially anyone who tries to reason with them... These people have reached a stage beyond reason. Rage. A level of mind that is definded by a complete annihilation of any sense of human mercy, kindness, moderation, logic thinking - in the favor of such extreme egocentricity, self love and racism that a normal conversation is not likely to be held by any of them. It is a place where only guns talk. - What a mess you have made of your own country!!!
25. HE ALSO SAID THIS “Rockets are one of the resistance tools."
(08.27.06)
“Rockets are one of the resistance tools. Our people have the right to resist the occupation. The occupation is the problem and as long as the problem exists our people have the right to resist.” http://en.thinkexist.com/quotes/ghazi_hamad/ PS: Wake up, as always these people have two faces, one for the western media and another for their own people.
26. Will it come...?
Bracha ,   Israel   (08.27.06)
Sure here's Hamad speaking about taking responsibility...but will they Palestinians listen? That is the question. Or will they threaten Hamad with death threats that he too is on Israel's side? The Palestinians need to start taking responsibility for their lifes conditions. If they truly want wealth, peace and prosperity, then they would admit to their errs. This is the first step.
27. Speaking the truth is dangerous
Johnson ,   USA   (08.27.06)
I hope Dr Ghazi Hamad words can take root . But, people of rational thought in his society are often the first to be.... Well, you know the story.
28. c'mon, this most be a hoax...
aaron ,   ra'anana   (08.27.06)
arab self criticism???? what's next: israeli quality in government??? personal accountability??? no way...
29. Dr. Ghazi
adnan ,   West Bank   (08.27.06)
Where you have been all these years??, when sabotage envaded our lifes and spoiled our spirits under the slogan of "resistance". when you were in the opposition, it was defending the palestinian people, whe you come to launch Qassam rockets or explosions on terminals , just to foil any truce reached.!!!?? Believe me i'm happy to hear this new opinion and self judgment from Hamas officials nowadyas, so go ahead review and address miastakes and ugly strange to our society phenomenons you have contributed to burgeon. Good Luck, Dr.
30. Dr. Ghazi has some brains
John ,   NZ   (08.28.06)
Start cultivating some weeds and earn some revenue for goodness sake. Get high but don't get violent.
