31. # 27 Speaking the truth is dangerous-You got it just right!
Married to Arab ,   Israel   (08.28.06)
The situation is that of extreme danger for anyone who openly speaks a word of reason - like wanting peace, to return to normal lifestyle and behaviour and abandon of hatred. Try to say any of these things and see what will be done to you! - It's a horror in Palestine at the moment. The violence is of the degree that was shown in Germany 70 years ago, with gangs of SA (Sturm Abteilung) ravaging the streets and homes of 'disloyal' citizens, bringing instant judgement without trial in the street or home to anyone with whom these gangsters were displeased... As a matter of fact, life in Palestine today is even worse, because every single known or unknown political group has its own SA that it lets loose.
32. Good Tactics
John ,   NZ   (08.28.06)
The thing about Palis and Islamic terrorists is that they can be hard or soft depending on the situation. When they get pounded heavily, they resort to the soft approach and vice versa. So, Israel must not let your guard down. An eye for an eye; a tooth for a tooth, is what they understood.

35. Everyone could use a bit of soul searching
J K ,   Argentina   (08.28.06)
No matter how dangerous it is for someone like Ghazi to say the truth, the duty is for all of us here (whether Jewish, Arab or someone else) to judge oneself before others and lead by example. We may as well blame ourselves for allowing this kind of violence in the world in the first place, as the thugs who find kidnapping a plausable means of making a political statement truly can not have that power unless the vast majority lets them (and indeed, their tactics are what we allow ourselves to be scared with). Huge round of applause to Ghazi and more like him with lesser publicity on both ends of the conflict. JK
36. This Guys a Liar!!
malcolm   (08.28.06)
I heard that a Palestinian woman in Nablus blamed Israeli occupation for her tooth ache. Don't tell me SHE's lying!

Will he now take the next step and disassociate himself from that terrorist organization he's a part of? Somehow, I doubt it.
39. Wait a few days, he will be accused of being a collaborator
(08.28.06)
for Israel and prob. killed. Tough luck, he might have been the Palestinians' only chance.
40. Return Shalit. He was your biggest mistake.
howard ,   pacific coast, usa   (08.28.06)
Well, I must admit that I am shocked to see a Palestinian leader publicly advocating taking responsibility for one's own errors. Unfortunately, I'm pessimistic. The mental habits of decades are very difficult for a population to change. Also, Palestinian society is full of people who don't WANT their fellow Palestinians to be able to distinguish craziness and foolishness from "heroism" - because if mistakes are recognized for what they are, these "heroes" will be recognized as the blundering, corrupt psychopaths that they really are. HAMAS itself made a *massive* blunder by allowing all of those rockets, and then capped it off by invading Israel and kidnapping Shalit. If you want to recognize mistakes, Mr. Hamad, recognize that one. Return the guy - yes, it's going to be painful, but continuing a failure does not stop it from being a failure - and start building a society of sane realists. The trouble you are in is caused by the mindset that you have created as a weapon against Israel. You never realized that mindset would hurt you as well, but in fact it was inevitable. To lay to rest the problems in your society, you will have to change that mindset, and literally "get real."

42. Hope he's not called a collaborator and murdered. END

lynne ,   austin, texas   (08.28.06)
I certainly respect Dr. Hamad for speaking out against facts which work against the well-being of the Palestinian people ---and truly against the stability and peace of the Middle East. I would have assumed that the people in Gaza would have been busily building their lives in a positive manner. That has not happened and it is not Israel's fault, as Dr. Hamad points out. It takes courage and a strong sense of honor to speak out as he did, and I respect him for it.

so [ya reet ya abou zeed ma ghazeet ] , but abou zeed was not the first attack the palastinian it was shlomo ..ghazi [killat alfuloos tudayek alnufoose ] we did not blam hamass for the poverty of the comunity becouse as palastinians we recognize the problem better than your article .but now they will be demonistration at the begining of the opening school .teachers need sallaries ,,and this is the main cause [as i think for this article but no one will demonistrate against the resistance or hamass but sure poverty is the cause of struggle inside any comunity ...and who prevent the people from getting a normal life it is not the fault of hamass but sure it is not our people .. ,,it is a close circle the same in any ocupation ,,god help the people in their days
48. When the pain is too much...
Ibrahim ,   S. Arabia   (08.28.06)
When the pain is too much... only then do the Palestinians talk sense. Hopefully the Israelis will realize this, THE primary characteristic of their neighbors.
49. parallel universe
mxh ,   usa   (08.28.06)
to #2. i'm confused. you say it took 25 years for israel to withdraw from lebanon and 30 from gaza and then Israel got peace. i thought in this universe, israel withdrew from gaza and have had MORE missle attacks in israel than before and the same in the north after the withdrawal from lebanon. how, exactly, is this peace for israel and why on earth would any rational person consider withdrawing from the golan with these as examples of what happens afterwards?
50. PA Govt. Spokesman
Laura Hunter ,   Commerce Twp. USA   (08.30.06)
Three cheers to Hamad!!! It's time someone within the ranks of Palestiine stood up and acknowledged the offences of their own people! You can't expect to continue to attack Israel and expect them to give you peace in return. They desire to live peacefully and safely in their land, if you grant them that peace unhindered, they will have no reason to attack you. Therefore you will have peace, and the ability to focus on your own nation and the prosperity of your nation will grow.
51. Hidden Talks
Louis   (09.01.06)
Why would he publish this in a public newspaper? Until I see Hamas saying that to the UN and that Hamas recognizes Israel and wants peace with its friendly neighbour this is just propaganda.

53. Peopleto Blame for Situation
Stanley Hubsher ,   Boynton Beach, FL 33   (11.14.06)
A breath of fresh air to hear Ghazi Hamad tell his people they must understand they are to blame for the retaliation of the Israelis for rockets fired by Palestinians in Gaza into Israel. What is the purpose? Why not concentrate on builiding your own country, as the Israelis have done? Theere is something missing in the make-up of a people bent only on killing Israelis and not promoting their own good. The Paalestinians must wake up and good for themselves. as the Israelis have done. Isn't it time you decided not to live in victimhood. Take your detiny into your own hands and produce constuctive results for you people and country!!
