31. To Rustum: Hizballah started this.
Mark ,   USA   (08.30.06)
Do not blame Israel for those bombs. Hizballah kidnapped 2 Israeli soldiers and crossed the blue line. As a result, Israel has the right to defend herself. Our strong leader of the free world, George Bush repeated this over and over.
32. To Rustum: Tony Blair defended Israel
Mark ,   USA   (08.30.06)
Please listen to your leader Tony Blair. Israel has a right to defend herself. Margaret Beckett said the same thing. Stop watching the Biased British Corporation. The United Kingdom is responsible for the entire Arab/I sraeli conflict. You should be working towards peace in the Middle East. Instead you blame evertyhing on Israel. You need to go to a library and get educated on the facts. You need to demand a peaceful solution to the conflict and learn all the facts. You should watch Foxnews which is fair and balanced.
33. So can we unleash a can of whoop-ass now?
RA   (08.30.06)
34. #11, Rustum, again fails to use his brain...
DR ,   Florida, USA   (08.30.06)
How can ISrael make peace with countries whos governments have no control over their populations??? How can Israel have peace while groups like Hezballah and Hammas run free to terrorize at will??? You cannot deny that peace starts with stability. This is the basic requirement of a government if peace is to be achieved. Lebanon has proved more than once that their gov't has no control...just like the PA. So before you blame Israel again, think with your little brain about what needs to happen for peace to be achieved.
35. #25, 29...what about your Gov't?
DR ,   Florida, USA   (08.30.06)
If your government cannot control terror groups within Lebanon, how do you expect Israel to sign anything??? As long as Hezballah remains armed and strong, Israel will never have peace and quiet, right? I don't understand why it's so hard for you to get this simple fact???
36. Now can we take the gloves off on the next round!?
LEE ,   NY, USA   (08.30.06)
37. 29 - CLARIFICATION on UN RESOLUTIONS
NL ,   Israel   (08.30.06)
UNSCR 194 - It set up an international Conciliation Commission to mediate between the parties and made provisions for the return or resettlement of refugees. The resolution says nothing solely about "Arab refugees" and clearly applies to both Arab and Jewish refugees of the Arab-instigated war. But Resolution 194 is only mentioned today when demanding rights for Arabs to return to Israel, something that is neither in the wording of Resolution 194 nor would be considered rational except in a different world, a world in which Jews could freely return to Arab lands and live there in peace. Those who demand compensation for Arab refugees have to also consider the loss of life, home, and property by hundreds of thousands of Jewish refugees who were forced out of Arab countries in the same time period. UNSCR 242 - discusses withdrawal from territories, NOT 'the' territories. Withdrawal from territories is meant to facilitate peaceful resolution, which reminds us of the Palestinians' oft-glossed over duty in this resolution. 242 calls for Israel to withdraw to 'secure and recognizable' borders. Arab and Palestinian groups like Hamas, by denying Israel's right to exist, don't even allow for recognizable borders, not to mention their lauding of suicide attacks belies the 'secure' part of the sentence. UNSCR 338- Resolution between Egypt and Israel and was focused on 'maintaining a just and durable peace between the two countries.' A just and durable peace was achieved, thus both Egpyt and Israel honored the spirit of the resolution. Israel's withdrawal from Sinai for peace show's Israel's willingness to comply with this land-for-peace type resolution (and implies that Israel has spirit to comply with 242 when security considerations allow). Also noteworthy: people state that 338 reinforces 242's call for Israel to cede territories. However, the Egyptians rejected Israel PM Begin's offer of Gaza, saying it was a deal-breaker and refusing to take it back. Hence, Egyptian not Israeli actions are the reason that Gaza was in Israeli hands post-1979. UNSCR 1701 - Israel is taking steps to implement this. Regarding complaints of the blockade, Israel said that when mechanisms are in place to stop arms smuggling, they will lift it. This is a far cry from Hizbullah who bent Lebanese govt's arm regarding their disarmament which was clearly called for as part of the UN resolution. Lebanese actors (whether the govt or the real power - Hizbullah) are far less complicit with this resolution than Israel considering the number of clauses either has not implemented to date. You conveniently forgot to mention UNSCR 425, which the UN confirmed that Israel upheld in full and which Lebanon did not uphold by not deploying Lebanese armed forces along the southern border. You also forgot to mention Lebanon's laxness in complying with UNSCR 1559 also calling for Hizbullah disarmament. Why is it that only Israel is required to uphold these resolutions? Could it be because Lebanon is not as just or democratic as it is purported to be?
38. 11 Rustumtum Did They release You now from detention ?
Gabrielle Goldwater ,   Geneva Switzerland   (08.30.06)
Here comes the leading Islamic Extremist again ... with his usual Crap Chat
39. Lebanon's PM thanks Hizbollah for its "sacrifices"
gerd schulz ,   germany   (08.30.06)
Lebanon's PM thanks Hizbollah for its "sacrifices" Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora thanked Hizbollah on Sunday for its "sacrifices" In its war against Israel. "We are in a strong position and I thank the Sayyed for his efforts," Siniora said when asked about a Saturday statement by Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah calling on the government to take advantage of Hizbollah's steadfastness against Israeli military might. (Reuters), (07.30.06)
40. to #11
Boris ,   Haifa   (08.30.06)
There is a long list of states which signed peace agreement after being thoroughly bombed (and rejecting such a possibility while being just slightly hurt). I agree with you, Rustum, that is could be quite stupid to ask Germany to sign peace treaty in 1941. It took 4 years to my grandpa (and his unit :)) to come to Berlin in May, 1945, and thus there wasn't much problem with obtaining peace. Explicitly: one who doesn't want to sign peace treaty for some unclear emotional reasons, DOESN'T WANT PEACE. By the way, according to your position here, so are you, too.
41. THANKS ANNAN
HM ,   Canada   (08.30.06)
I guess what even Annon told Siniora was again good for the Arabs. This is NO surprise. PEACE not in the UN or Siniora's vocabulary. Siniora the puppet tor the UN and Iran.
42. No need for a mortgage
E ,   Canada   (08.30.06)
So, they get $33 000 from the Lebonese government plus $12 000 from Hezbollah thats $45 000. Wow, they should thank the Israelis. It would take them a life time to earn that kind of cash. Imagine all in US cash! Oh and there is more to come from Hezbollah, the $12 000 is just an installment.. And we wonder why they support terrorism, they welcome it.
43. Israel will never see peace
Ryan ,   Calgary, Canada   (08.30.06)
Arabs want Israel gone, any notion of peace without this happening is a farce, and not worth the paper it's written on. Arabs need to wake up, and accept the fact that Israel is there, use there oil money for social programs and infrastructure, instead of harboring and financing militias to indirectly attack Israel. There never going to eliminate Israel, The UN recognizes Israel, and the arab countries recongnize the UN, so thats an indirect recognition of Israel, or just one more contradiction to arab politics and way of life. Israel protects itself, imagine the y took the same mandate as the arabs, you would see way more carnage than ever before. Save your children, and accept the fact they are there for good. For MO and RUSTUM, you both live a lie, stop telling people how wonderful these countries are, yet you probably jumped ship to the first western country that processed your application, your another example of arab contradiction. It's ok for me but not for you.
44. To Rustum: Lebanon refuses peace
Mark ,   USA   (08.30.06)
The only barbarian is you for not wanting peace. Israel wants peace and you have a nerve to call Israel a barbarian. The United Kingdom has used plenty of barbaric behavior. They are the experts in human torture and refuse to act in a civil manner. You need to bless Israel and you will be blessed. The UK curses Israel and is cursed with terror. They are bringing that terror across the Atlantic and that must be stopped.
45. #27 Lebanon welcomed terrorists
Mark ,   USA   (08.30.06)
They asked for this destruction by allowing terrorists to take over their land. I have NO sympathy for Lebanon. They still are allowing the terrorists on their land and should expect more destruction. Destroying terror brings peace.
46. to #29
Boris ,   Haifa   (08.30.06)
If by "stolen land" you mean Shebaa Farms, it's not your Hizbullah business. Israel will talk about it with Syria when the time will come, without asking neither you, nor Greenland, nor any other country which has not relation to this land. Period. If you mean the W.B. - Jordan territories which are now claimed to be "Palestine in the borders of 1967" - once again, it's not your Hezballah business. It's a pity we cannot return it to Jordan, they know how to take care of terrorists probably better than us (if some soviet tanks are still there). Finally, If you mean returning e.g. Yaffo and throwing us into the sea... well, you know where to go... Instead of judjing our govt., - Go and take care or your own prime minister which, as I see, requires it - send him a couple of handkerchiefs and someone who will eradicate terrorist camps on your territory while he gently weeps :) . Than invite someone who will open a normal secular school, not teaching that "jewsss are eeeewil". Than start your industrial development. After that, when the problem of idiots not willing to sign peace agreement for reasons that are not their business will sharply decrease - welcome to Haifa, I'll how you a pub with splendid jazz .
47. to 25
Kofi ,   Canada   (08.30.06)
Good country Canada. Canadain eh, good free ride "home"? Now here I guess your Lebonese? With this atitiude there will never be peace ,sad but true. just one more thing what about all the Jews who live in the area before 1948, and forced out by the Arabs countries, before and since.
48. #11 Rustum -- wishful thinking
Ryan ,   Calgary, Canada   (08.30.06)
Your all suggestions with no process. Sometimes peace is best enforced with the barrel of a gun. And needs to be so. The bottom of the political difficulties is the arabs don't want an Israel, and Israeli's don't want to live underwater, whats your bright suggestion, how about we build a big bubble on the moon for Israel. Also how do you talk to countries that are unwilling to talk, and don't even recognize you, get real man, they won't even play them a soccer match. So you suggest talk to someone that won't talk to you, and do as they say, your a moron. Peace will come when the arabs realize and accept Israel is there to stay. Israel has given concessions, only to be attacked more, they were attacked as soon as they became a state. How about the arabs give concessions and pay for and allow palestinians to migrate and assimilate into whichever arab ME country they choose. Israel can help foot the bill. Israel will get there land, the Pals will be safe, Arabs will still control the majority of the ME, its not like Israel is so vast in size, look at a map.
49. some stupid americans talk about bombing lebanon!!
jj ,   london, UK   (08.30.06)
they talk about it as if they are in Israel or israelis, if you were so strong why don't you send your US Marines to Beirut, or you are too scared to get back to the same place where you left running and screaming in horror in the 80s.
50. what kind of peace with Israel?
jj ,   london, UK   (08.30.06)
after Israel destroyed most of lebanon, killed families, women and babies, what peace are they looking for? the only peace with lebanon is to leave it in peace once and forever.
51. lebanon no peace
leib ben yisrael ,   usa   (08.30.06)
the 49 armitice did not end the war-any arab country who hasn't signed a peace treaty and fought Israel in 48 is still at war. Siniora is under Syria's thumb. If Hizbullah had been soundly defeated Jumblatt and Hariri both sons of leaders murdered by Syria might have stepped forward to make peace; the peace Syria sabotaged in 1983.
52. To Mohammed in Montreal, QC
Rob ,   UK   (08.30.06)
How about YOU apologise on behalf of your co-religionists for ethnically cleansing Lebanon and creating another Islamic terror-state in what was once a Christian-majority country. Nobody was kicked out of "Palestine." There is no "Palestine" and there never was.
53. no peace with Israel...so what else is new?
bob ,   kiryat ata, israel   (08.30.06)
Peres continues to live in an ideological stupor (dream world) and the Arab states will not be happy until Israel is reduced to the size of a postage stamp. The next peace deal should be when the Arab nations sue for peace due to their final defeat from their next attack on Israel...if Israel can get the courage to finally take a war to its logical conclusion...real victory and defensible borders defined by the victor. Doesn't anybody study history anymore,or read the Law of Nations. Israel must learn how to win and then act like a winner. Time is short.
54. Rustum: Siniora does not want peace
Mark ,   USA   (08.30.06)
Solution: Israel has to go in and destroy all of Lebanon. They need to complete that job. Since Lebanon acted like a crybaby, Israel stopped. Did they learn their lesson? NO! Lebanon needs to be carpet bombed since Lebanon is an obstacle to peace. Israel wants peace. I want peace. Does Rustum want peace or scapegoat Israel forever? Which one Rustum. Do tell.
55. #43...sad, but very true!!!
DR ,   Florida, USA   (08.30.06)
56. to #25. Lebanese prisoners and Shebaa farms
Boris ,   Haifa   (08.30.06)
1. Shebaa farms are the subject for negotiations between Israel and Syria. Keep well clear, unless you want to pay instead of Syria. Stop being dummy of your neighbour bad boys. 2. As for poor "lebanese prisoners" - do you know why Samir Kuntar is in jail? By the way, one thing I'm really angry about, is silence in the media about who are the "poor prisoners". Every, say, european must know what did Kuntar, with photos, but Europe doesn't want and doesn't know. This is also a todo-point for israeli media and politics - go and explain to them. So, you want to get back a murderer of innocent children to make him your national hero? Come and take him, there is still some vacant place in the neighbour cell.
57. #25 The French need to apologize
Mark ,   USA   (08.30.06)
The French of Quebec and France need to apologize for supporting Arab terror. They need to apologize for continual anti-Israel and anti- Semitic behavior. Blood is on their hands. The French will be cursed because they have cursed Israel. The Muslims will usher a new French revolution. C'est la vie.
58. #38
Rustum ,   London, UK   (08.30.06)
Grand dommage que tu n'est pas tombée sous les bombardements! However, you have never set foot in the Middle East. Your pathetic comments are being consigned to the dust-bin (trash-can if you only speak Amerikan).
59. World blames Israel for wanting peace.
Mark ,   USA   (08.30.06)
The world is sick in the head as evidenced by some comments that have been made. Why are you blaming Israel for wanting peace? The reason is you want Israel to be wiped off the face of the map. These statements are the proof of pure evil.
60. Siniora admits weakness of state's authority
gerd schulz ,   germany   (08.30.06)
http://www.dailystar.com.lb/article.asp?edition_id=1&categ_id=2&article_id=75067     Siniora admits weakness of state's authority Monday, August 28, 2006 BEIRUT: Prime Minister Fouad Siniora has said for the first time that the government's authority has been weakened in the past three decades and the state with its army should be the sole authority over the country. In an exclusive interview with CBC News Friday, Siniora said: "The government's authority over the various parts and various activities of the country, again in certain aspects, became very insignificant." He added that the state should become the sole authority and only the Lebanese Army, Internal Security Forces and the UN international force carry weapons. He said developments over the past three decades have "weakened" the state. South Lebanon has been considered to be under Hizbullah's control for several years. (...)
