1. Is Egypt still at war with Israel?
Adam M. ,   NYC   (09.05.06)
In 1978, Egypt signed a peace treaty with Israel. If it were really now at peace, it would not hold an Israeli victim of a kidnapping in custody. If it is true that this youth is now really in Egypt, the Egyptian government should immediately return him to Israel. To hold him prisoner while negotiating the price paid to the terrorist kidnappers is an act of war against Israel.
2. Prisoners in Egypt.
silvio ,   colnago - Italy   (09.05.06)
For wich reason the Egypt can retain Insrael's prisoners without freing immediately them?
3. That was Easy ? But not for Olmert..
Amir AL-Safir ,   Lebanon   (09.05.06)
Both the Israelis and the Hizbullah underestimated each other's reaction for the two soldiers kidnaped in Lebanon. Even though Nassrallah had gone down to the same path of prisoner swap as Hizbullah have done over the past 20 years period. But last July proved to be a painful lesson for both sides. Amir
4. Didn't Israel sign a "peace" treaty with Egypt ?
gabriela ben ari   (09.05.06)
Oh sorry forgot, it was a "piece" treaty, forgot to spell out Sinai peninsula
5. If This is TRUE - Thanks to Israel and Egypt
Sammy ,   Canada   (09.05.06)
You see with Negotiations You can resolve alot of your issues. Please keep the Negotiation door open and resolve your issues peacfully.
6. What does it exactly means ?
Hiram ,   tel Aviv   (09.05.06)
Depending on the "supposed date of transfert" of Shalit into Egyptian territory, Egypt might well be an accomplice of terror organisations which have abducted him . If Shalit was " recently " transferred into Egypt as a result of a " deal " underway, it is both laudable and shameful. Laudable because it will be good to have shalit back of course, shameful because after claiming that no deal will ever be made by the Olmert government, the same government would still make a deal thus opening the door to a new politic justifying all the future terror attacks. The rest is pure algebra : 1 Jewish life = 800 Arab lives....this makes of course the Israeli soldier 800 times more worthy than the Palestinian. I am unsure what Islamist pride will make of it ...unless of course it shows that finally they dont really care about who is in jail, and who is free, provided it gives terror organisation and so called militants all the opportunities for further Islamist agitation in the area !
7. International Law
Maurice M.D. ,   Baltimore   (09.05.06)
The anti-Israel set is always jibbering about "International Law" to restrict Israel. Can they find something in International Law that relates to Egypt, that is supposed to be at peace with Israel, "holding" an Israeli kidnapped by terrorists? If this story is true, why does not even the incumbent rotten government in Israel DEMAND that Egypt release its prisoner WITHOUT RANSOM. ?????
8. Another act of war by Egypt
Y ,   Israel   (09.05.06)
If true, this is another act of war by Egypt against Israel; the first being supplying tons of weapons to Gazan arabs from Sinai via the "Philidelphi corridor" for several years. What will it take for Israel to demonstrate self-preservation, national pride?
9. Is it True?
Jon ,   Oz   (09.05.06)
We really can't be sure of the veracity of this report. It comes from a source that I would not trust.
10. 1 for 800?
DD ,   KIryat bShmona   (09.05.06)
With all due respect to the victims family, I dont see the fairness in this. And it is always the samething which the rest of the world dont see or seem to give a flying F**K about. Not only is it one soldier for 800 prisoners. It is one KIDNAPPED soldier for the release of 800 ARRESTED terrorists. This is just another example which pisses me off about how the rest of the world continues to think of us as the monsters. We are the "SUCKERS". Like Iran, N.Korea, Russia, China , to name a few, we should not care what the rest of the world thinks and never hold back against these primitive thinking barbarians. DD
11. free Gilad unconditionally. Let Red Cross see him
alan ,   frisco   (09.05.06)
In viloation of international law, the captors of Galid have refused access to the kidnapped soldier by the Red Cross. O sorry international law only applies against Jews never against Arabs. Sorry for being so naive. If Olmert is back peddling on his original statements after Gilad's capture that there would be no exchanges of 1000:1 or any negotiations, he should resign immediately as this would destroy the thread of credibility left on his balding head.
12. Should we Care!!!
Egyptian   (09.05.06)
I don’t really know why Egypt should play any role between Palestinians and Israelis? Corporal Gilad Shalit was kidnapped two months back and until now Israeli army couldn’t find him, and when Egypt tries to help, some Israelis consider this as a declaration of war!!! Go get him and we will be happy for you.
13. To 11#
Hubert ,   Israel   (09.05.06)
I think #11 is totally right: we should first thank Egypt for its efforts to bring back Shalit home; this is the most important issue, more than the deal itself; whatever is the price to pay, whatever is the real role and the real intentions of Egypt! So Mr #11: thanks a lot; just be aware that there are also people with common sense in Israel..
14. He's always been in Egypt, duh!
Lila ,   Jerusalem   (09.05.06)
The IDF began their "chase" one hour after Shalit had been kidnapped. Of course the terrorists took him to Egypt as soon as they got him, as they were only a few minutes from the border at the time. Who was going to stop them - the international observers? The PLO? Hamas? Ariel Sharon turned the border over to those who have no desire to protect or help Israelis. That's why he couldn't be "found" in Gaza, that's why no Red Cross visits, that's why Mubarak is so involved. Think, people! And don't think for a minute that Olmert and his gang of Kadima indictees-in-waiting haven't known from the beginning that he's been in Egypt all along.
15. Shalit not in Egypt
Rachel ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (09.05.06)
Gee, I sure hope for Egypt's sake that Gilad Shalit is not being held in Egypt. This would constitute a clear violation of every single peace accord we have had with Egypt since 1979. And the Palestinian practice of constantly sending wounded terrorists to either Jordan or Egypt for treatment also is a violation of peace accords as they are wanted criminals, including, especially, Muhammad Deif.
16. ARAB MK: 'I ADVISED PA TO KIDNAP SOLDIER'
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (09.05.06)
Treason and maliciously endangering IDF soldiers' lives by Arab MKs is allowed in Israel whilst patriotic Jews are punished and jailed and regarded as ENEMIES OF THE STATE. It is urgent that demonstrations are held outside the Knesset and outside Israeli consulates world-wide to protest that Arab MKs are allowed to commit treason - collude with the enemy - repeatedly call for intifada against Israel - and encourage global jihadist religious supremacists to kidnap IDF soldiers. And to protest the persecution and politically-motivated, unjust jailing of Jewish patriots. israelnationalnews.com Arab MK: 'I Advised PA to Kidnap Soldier' Jul 09, '06 / 13 Tammuz 5766 by Hillel Fendel Knesset Member Wasal Taha, corresponding publicly with internet surfers on the Arabic-language IslamOnline site, said he repeatedly advised PA terrorists to battle and kidnap Israeli soldiers. According to a report in Maariv newspaper on Sunday, Taha told surfers on Thursday that he repeatedly advised the PA Arabs to stop shooting and targeting civilians, and to concentrate on IDF targets... http://www.israelnn.com/news.php3?id=106857
17. #1 EGYPTIAN State-controlled paper PRAISED TEL AVIV BOMBING
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (09.05.06)
of innocents. Israel gave Egypt the Sinai in exchange for a worthless piece of paper - a peace agreement. The bloody "peace" that Egypt gives Israel: YNETNEWS (04.18.06, 07:51) Tel Aviv attack. 'There will be more' Egyptian paper praises Tel Aviv bombing State-controlled Al Gomhuria calls Monday's suicide bombing 'sacrificial, martyrdom attack,' warns more attacks to follow Associated Press An Egyptian state-controlled newspaper praised Monday's suicide attack in Tel Aviv, which killed nine people and wounded dozens, calling it an act of sacrifice and martyrdom. http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3241041,00.html The deployment of Egypt's military on Israel's border at the invitation of Israeli leaders is astonishing and treasonous. M.K. Steinitz stated: Egyptian military "has been training for war against Israel for the past 10 years." In 2004, U.S. Congressman Tom Lantos in the House International Relations Committee, warned Egypt was building up its military in preparation for a future war with Israel. Egypt receives from the U.S. $1.7 billion dollars in aid annually.
18. So much for the international passport system.
D- ,   San Diego, USA   (09.05.06)
If Gilad is held in Egypt, without committing any crimes there, then all Egyptian passports should instantly become worthless everywhere in the world, because Egypt has rejected the international passport system.
19. To(#15) Rachel, Its Ok, with agreement
Amir AL-Safir ,   Lebanon   (09.06.06)
Rachel, If its true, then I pretty much suspect that its an agreement between the Israeli government and the Egyptian to safeguard the kidnaped soldier. Egypt is just playing the role of the mediator. Again if its true, then probably the soldier is in the company of the mosad in Egypt, if not in the Israeli embassy anyway.. Beside, everything is Kosher there including the Bastrami and pork.... Amir
