5. OK, my take...
Avraham   (09.07.06)
Listen, people. I'm partly shocked about this story making news. However, if it was done RIGHT, it would actually be a beneficial article. Here are a couple of criticisms about it though. It used poor euphamisms - such as "greats" instead of gedolim and "sbnormal" instead of meshugga, which this person obviously is not. The story significantly lacked clarity due to it's brevity. Here's a word of advice, YNET - either do a story correctly - which means content and word count, or don't do it at all. Yediot has run SEVERAL shallow articles lately, on the human interest side of thing which are simply EMBARASSING! If it's on the journalism end of things, take care ofit. If it's on the editor side of things, then SHAME ON YOU!

12. You make an oath you keep it
marilyn   (09.08.06)
All water under the bridge now, we can't do anything about it. But it does bring to the front, that 'it is better not to make an oath, then to make one and then break it.' Very few see their marriage as a covenant , on agreeing to forsake all others and remain faithful to their partner, an oath made in the sight of God. 'Better or worse' thems the terms, 'sickness or health'.Showed she loved his genitalia more then she loved him as a person.

16. sad story
Hilda ,   USA   (09.08.06)
Probablt could have been solved at birth by a simple operation. The religious parents were too eager to have a son and so ruined both his life as well as the girl he married.
17. Abnormal rabbinical court
Ragusa   (09.08.06)
Just goes to show how compasionate and loving people religious leaders are. Establishing a human being as ABNORMAL and a cheater because he hid his DESEASE. Well, the good Lord created the poor bugger this way, and it took the wife 15 years to feel cheated.

Nobody noticed from the Mohel, the mother and father. Come on Ynet get real.
22. Why was this called a disease?
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (09.10.06)
We all start out as females in the womb. Testosterone released helps the testes to start growing. Without testosterone---we would all be females. This guys problem was a genetic glitch which allowed both organs to grow. I can only imagine everyone worrying about some mysterious disease that could turn all of us into hermaphrodites. We would be happy if the Doctor told us it was only Aids.
23. a fertile MALE with a small but vital birth defect
Frank ,   London   (09.10.06)
Biologically, fertile people are either male or female. If they are infertile, they can of course be different shades of grey. But if they are fertile - ie capable of producing sperm or eggs, then that is it, you don't do both. Since her husband managed to produce sperm for IVF, he is male. [I hope I am right. The article is not precise on this point, is it, if it were his sperm? But let's assume it was his sperm for the sake of the argument]. Nevertheless, because of the malformation, normal sex life as a male can be difficult to impossible, and that of course is a highly valid reason for annullment. The practice of giving a get, instead of annullment, saving face for the consenting husband is by the way halachically correct. If the husband wouldn't consent, one would annull anyway, but if he does it saves face, a good thing. Finally, because someone mentioned it: I don't think it is a good idea to mutilate male hemaphrodites, so that they would look like girls and be marriageable (even though infertile). The topic was raised for example in "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides. In many cases, the "girls" as they grow up are definitely not happy with their socially assumed identity. And castrating people is definitely against the halacha.
