31. Rabbi Brackman ignores THE FACTS
JS ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (09.10.06)
The Rabbi ignores two important facts: 1) The parade is not sexual. 99% of the participants at the last 3 Pride parades in Jerusalem were dressed in ordinary street clothes-- jeans and t-shirts. There was absolutely nothing provocative about the march. For some reason, opponents of the parade like to find pictures of leather and drag from parades in other cities and pretend that this will happen in Jerusalem. Even if there are one or two people dressed in that manner, (and I encourage everyone to dress however they wish), the amount of bare flesh exposed is minimal compared to your average Israeli street or shopping mall. If you want to pick a fight over so-called immodesty, go after all the Israeli women in belly shirts. But obviously the parade opponents are bullies and are only interested in picking fights with marginalized groups. 2) When an ultra-Orthodox woman walks down the street with her 10 children, and a pregant belly sticking out with her 11th child, don't tell me that she's not displaying >her< sexuality in a public manner.
32. To #31 - You've got it all wrong.
AB ,   TheRock   (09.10.06)
Marital union between husband and wife is not a sin. Indeed done within the confines of halacha it is a mitzva, the first in the Torah! A pregnant woman is not a sign of immorality whilst homosexuality is.
33. #31 - Your 2nd point is a <bleeping> genius wake-up call

34. #31 you have a weird notion of "sexuality"
Aviva ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (09.10.06)
People who parade their "sexuality" in public are advertising their "availability" for sex. A woman with 10 children pregnant with her 11th is not available to anyone except for her husband. She is not taunting gays by saying, "Look, I can reproduce and you can't!" although the gays see "breeders" with large families as an insult to them.
35. this is what it boils down to
Miriam ,   Israel   (09.10.06)
It all boils down 2 one basic principle -you can argue till your blue in the face it wont do you any good. People have different value systems you cant expect someone who doesnt recognize and share your value system to observe it . it would do the lot of us great good to live and let live and let a higher power deal with judging the "sinners".And to those of you righteous ones out there may i remind you that the second temple was destroyed because of sinat chinam? Im not for or against any of you gay straight, religious-whatever Im for Shalom amongs us. if your happy you love yourself and when you love yourself you are capable of accepting others.
36. I tend to agree with the Rabbi
Shahon ,   Washington, DC   (09.11.06)
I am openly gay, and yet I have little to nothing to do with the gay community. I am ashamed at how the gay community portrays itself in a lavish world of drugs and sex and they enjoy showing it off in public. It has also become quite evident these days in the younger heterosexual attitude too. You can't watch TV with out seeing blatant images of graphic sexual content. It's sadden's me as a young man (34) that most people choose to be selfish, greedy and ignorant rather than live healthy productive lives. I don't think ANY group should parade themselves in an effort to shock. No matter where they are... Gays should definately NOT parade themselves in Jerusalem... To do so shows how insensitive, selfish and sad they truly are. I don't want to see heterosexual couples parading nostly naked and simulating sex in the streets. Why should the Holy City be subject to the gays doing it? It's DISGUISTING! I am openly gay... I didn't choose this life... I don't believe G-D makes mistakes... Therefor I don't believe my lifestyle is a sin. But celebrating love between two people is best celebrated on Shabbat in the home. And the home is where it should remain, regardless of your sexual orientation.
37. #35 Misplaced tolerance
AB ,   TheRock   (09.13.06)
To begin with - you say 'live and let live' but that is exactly what the gays are not doing in wishing to parade their rebellion against G-d in the holiest City. The place G-d chose for His temple, no less. The same G-d who said No to homosexuality . True we will go blue in the face but that is only because these particular homosexuals i.e. the ones that are 'proud' of their behaviour insist on glorifying their sins and try to convince us that they're doing no wrong. The ones that know they are sinning but are currently unable to overcome their urges but do not bother the world and try and shove their private matters in our faces can be tolerated whilst they are working on themselves. Now that doesn't mean that we hate any of them, we hate what they are doing because G-d says He hates it. We have to emulate G-d - so don't twist the meaning of Ahavat Yisrael. We all took an oath at Har Sinai taking responsibility for each other. It is our duty to speak up.
38. Rabbinical thought going to the dogs
Sean ,   Montreal, Canada   (09.20.06)
And lo, from the backwaters of America the sage opinions of a man who would stand up to defend the legal practice of canine slaughterhouses ! Truly. Since when are they legal Rabbi ? Your inane analogy aside, it seems that Frum dress should be prohibited as it is offensive to humanists or any who believe in equality of the sexes. When exactly is the next meeting of the flat earth society in Colorado ?
39. Its about not knowing what you're talking about, stupid....
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (10.20.06)
The Jerusalem gay pride event has never been sexualized, overtly or otherwise. That's what happens when you're pontificating from Colorado, never having been to a gay event in Jerusalem.
40. words of wisdom #10
straight girl   (10.21.06)
but it seem to me that the rabbai and likes would rather have mercy on a murderer rather than "accept" gay ppl. as in ... you could be the most modest, pure beautiful soul ... but if you're gay .. you're fucked ... right to hell. on th eother hand .. you could be a shite person, a criminal, a pervert .. even the devil itself ... you'd still be forgiven. go figure ...
