Olmert should do the morally correct thing and resign. Taking blame for this lebanon fiasco. No soldiers back, what was the fighting about. You finish the job if there are no soldiers returned, especially since hizbullah and the lebanese PM are on such good speaking terms.
32. 20 Actually I am tired of your nonsense.
freedom ,   canada   (09.09.06)
You make no sense most of the time. No solutions for anything, just criticism of the Israeli side.. anyways..
33. 21 Dovy one would think the new South Africa

As my post states the Israelis should trade the hostages they have for the soldiers. In fact that is what they should have done two months ago before the IDF and IAF went on a murdering rampage. And if the Israelis want true peace they should start bargaining in good faith. Not the fake negotiations the Israelis are so good at. Real dealings for a viable Palestinian state. They should go back to the pre-1967 borders. They should stop their naked aggression on innocent Palestinian and Lebanese citizens. Otherwise things are just going to get worse and worse for Israelis and Jews in general. Face it the world is sick to death of Israel's conniving lies and duplicity. Zionist Israel and not Islam is the true threat to world peace. The whole world is now beginning to realize this.

BJL ,   Appleland USA   (09.09.06)
If poor Arik could speak and rise up from his poor condition, he would be livid! He would say to Olmert, not only have you destroyed Kadima ( no loss there) BUT, you have destroyed Israeli deterance, left our beloved sons in the hands of the enemy after promising not to do so AND spilled the blood of over 100 of our brave Jewish soldiers....For nothing!
38. lifting of blockades
jeff ,   three rivers,mi   (09.09.06)
well now that Israel has completed EVERYTHING expected of them from the UN resolution minus the troop pullout, witch is goin on currently,Lebanons P.M. can quit crying and MAYBE act on some of his requirements, like 1.giving back the soldiers and 2.disarming Hizzbolo and his cronies..Or is he gonna find something else to cry about?Or does he need somemore bombing to get thier act together?
39. Israel gives a quid for nothing in return
alan ,   frisco   (09.09.06)
If Olmert were a businessman, which he is not, or an astute strategic thinker, which he is not, he would be broke and stranded in Timbuktu-- which is where he belongs by the way, in California sipping some wine with the neo pacificists and neo nothings.
40. Fascist 35, yea FASCIST!!!
Jewish American ,   USA   (09.09.06)
Alright so called "world citizen", time for a little history lesson. Let's go back to the summer of 2000, can you tell me what happened, I bet not so I will tell you. Israel withdrew from Lebannon and forcefully removed Jewish settlers from the Gaza Strip, 9000 settlers actually. Free and fair elections (that must be a new concept for a fascist) were held, almost two years ago now, though I do not agree w/ Hamas in gov't, but that is what the Palestineans want. Rafik Harriri was assasinated by Syria in Feb 2001 and Lebannon threw out syrian troops. Peace was so close, but do you know what happened? I bet not again. Syria stepped up supplies to hezbollah and created even more instability in the region. Then in July, hezbollah CROSSED Israel's border to kidnap two soldiers and killed 3 in the process. They indiscriminantly launched rocket attacks on civilian targets while cowardly hiding behind women and children. They wear masks when parading in military form down streets. There is an AK-47 on thier flag. Syria, hezbollah, and Iran want nothing but war. These are the aggressors, they do not want peace. They are nothing but animals giving into thier most basic desires. If they truely wanted peace, we would have had it a long time ago. The arabs are the ones that are lying, do you really think with Syrian troops guarding the Lebannese border that arms flow to hezbollah will stop!? How can you sympathize with a people that does not value thier women, children, or just the mere gift of life. They will throw thier life away in a suicide bombing, and to accomplish what, bring death upon innocent women and children? The arabs are not the innocent people you claim them to be, Islam is not the threat, its radical Islam that is the threat. So don't come back until you realize who you are supporting, you FASCIST.

43. And So How Do You Propose To End the Madness?
World Citizen ,   the world   (09.09.06)
More bombing on Lebanese civilians? More targeted assassinations? More hostages for trade? Ethnic cleansing of the West Bank and Gaza? More weapons? Bibi for PM? A nuclear bombing of Iran? Tearing down the Dome of the Rock and building a temple on the Temple Mount? A red perfect red heifer? A greater Israel that stretches from the Nile to the Euphrates? Every time I or anyone comes in here and tells you delusional idiots what you must do to acheive peace you call me a fascist , an anti-semite, or a Nazi. You think that those names actually have an effect on people anymore? They don't. We have heard is so many times we revel in it. We find it hard to believe that Jewish/Israeli "intelligence" has sunk so low that name calling is all you have left. Face the truth. The way to peace for the nation of Israel is through honest negotiation with the Palestinians. Israelis must read the history books by their own Jewish historians and realise that grave injustices were done to the Palestinians in 1948 and continue to this day. In 1948 Palestine was not "a land without people for a people without land." Israelis terrorized the inhabitants and stole their land, not the other way around. Therefore there will never be peace for the Israelis without justice for the Palestinians. Go to the negotiation tables now and do it with honesty in your hearts and minds. It is truly your only hope. Now let me make a prediction. Because of the racist nature of Israeli society (as reflected by posts on this site everyday) and the warlike nature of the Israeli government I fear that there will never be peace for the Israelis, Jews in general, and in particular, Ashkenazi Jewry. They will continue to treat the Arabs, the Goyim, and even the Separdic Jews as children of lesser gods. They will agitate for war and havoc until the entire world has been radicalized against them. Then Armmegideon will come. The Christian Zionists work and pray for it everyday. They say 144,000 Jews will kiss the cross and therefore be saved. And the rest of the Jews will be cast into the fires of Hell. Jesus will return. This is old time Bible Apocalyptic prophecy. I think of it as utter madness but I fear that it will be a self-fulfilling reality (except the part about Jesus). Thus Hitler's dream will be fulfilled. Now Jewish apologist will say this could happen because the world hates Jews. But on the other hand it could happen because to us, Jews seem to hate the world. So that is my prediction. Call me a crazy Nazi or anti-Semite or anything you like. I and many like me don't care anymore. But ignore our warnings at your own peril.

And I think PM Ehud Olmert will do the same type of evacuations in the West Bank soon, for the greater good.
45. World citizen - face the facts, indeed
NL ,   Israel   (09.09.06)
You ask us to face the facts. Let's do it: Fair negotiation with the Palestinians? Israel conniving? Perhaps then you might explain why Yasser Arafar referred to the Oslo accords as a red herring? Why he rejected Barak's offer to receive 97 percent of land acquired by Israel (in a defensive war against three other countries) in 1967. As if this unprecedently large concession from a militarily victorious party was not enough, Barak then offered to compensate for the remaining three percent and offer the same amount of land in a different area. Based on history, Israeli leaders tend to 'negotiate' with Palestinians by giving them almost everything that they purportedly ask for, only to have it rejected and have to face them promoting terror. Hamas, for example, openly states that a compromise regarding 1967 borders would only be a 'starting point' for them. In other words, their idea of 'negotiation' is to take over 'from the Jordan to the sea (Mediterranean). In other words, to remove Israel entirely. How exactly is that compromise? How can you justify eliminating one entity completely in your call for negotiation? And if - despite the fact that, all over the world and all across history, borders have been proven to be fluid and people who truly want to advance peace and prosperity try to deal with that and try to make peace based on the current status quo - if, regardless, your answer is that it was Palestinian land prior to 1948, there are a number of historical facts that contradict you: 1. The term Palestinian, as it is used today, was coined in 1964, with the PLO. Look at documents from the decade following Israel's war of independence in 1948. The Arabs from the mandate are referred to as Arab brethren. In fact, the term Palestine was used by the Ottomans and the British to describe the region, and prior to 1948, Jews in the mandate were known as 'Palestinian Jews'. 2. If the Palestinians in the area had such a need for their own land where they currently desire to have a state, why did they not fight Jordanian and Eygptian control of Gaza and WB, prior to 1967? 3. How do you explain the albeit small but constant presence of Jews in the area for centuries if they are such a foreign species? 4. Terrorized the Arab inhabitants in 1948, you say? If so, why did Haifa authorities publish statements begging the local Arabs not to listen to foreign Arab leaders and not to run away? Yes, there was the tragedy at Deir Yasseen, in which Jews killed Arabs, but what about the two preceding massacres by Arabs of Jews, when they set community centers on fire and shot the Jews who came out? How about the Arab massacring of Jews in 1921 and 1929 LONG before your alleged Jewish aggression in 1948 - that is terrorization of Jews by Arabs, not the other way around, as you claim. 5. Much of the land in the mandate pre-1948 was purchased from Turkish or Arab landowners. Most of the arabs who arrived in the area did not own the land. In fact, many migrated TO the area in response for more jobs which were created by previous Jewish migration to the area. How is legally buying land 'terrorization'? 6. How is it Jewish terrorization when the new Jewish state was attacked by vaster numbers of trained military forces from FOUR neighboring countries (the same countries who issued statements encouraging Arabs in the mandate area to leave and come back once the Jews had been vanquished, btw)? I know that slogans are fun and easy, but facts are what is needed. Particularly, if you tell people to face the facts, you should perhaps familiarize yourself with them yourself, and actually address them.

You said "Zionist Israel and not Islam is the true threat to world peace." Do you have any solid proof or examples? No? Is it one of your conspiracy theories? I thought so.
47. #45
Joshua ,   USA   (09.09.06)
Every point you made was taken out of context and was not entirely accurate. Not to mention the items you did not mention at all, items such as the sovereignty over the entire land that was supposed to be given back, Jerusalem and right of return of all Palestinian refugees.
48. 47 - out of context how?
NL ,   Israel   (09.09.06)
Firstly, which of my points were out of context? If you make assertions, please support them with fact. My facts regarding Israel's war for indepence were emperically correct and stand on their own. I could have entered into a more detailed and chronological explanation of events, but I assure you that would have created an even stronger 'context' for illustrating that Israel has continuously been attacked and sought peace time and again, often giving up strategic depth to do so. I would be happen to continue to debate you if you would refute my statements in 45 with actual specific points for me to respond to. Secondly, if we're discussing taking things out of context, Palestinian right of return is one of issues MOST taken out of context in the entire Israeli-Palestinian debate: The call for right of return is loosely based on a provision in UNSCR 194. however, the resolution - which set up an international Conciliation Commission to mediate between the parties and made provisions for the return or resettlement of refugees - says nothing solely about "Arab refugees" and clearly applies to both Arab and Jewish refugees of the Arab-instigated war. Resolution 194 is only mentioned today when demanding rights for Arabs to return to Israel, something that is nowhere in the wording of Resolution 194 nor would be considered rational except in a different world, a world in which Jews could freely return to Arab lands and live there in peace. When taken IN CONTEXT, those who demand compensation for Arab refugees have to also consider the loss of life, home, and property by hundreds of thousands of Jewish refugees who were forced out of Arab countries in the same time period. In fact, there were at least as many, if not more Jewish refugees from arab nations than Arab refugees from the mandate area in this period of time. Additionally, regarding sovereignty: once Israel pulled out of Gaza, the government had a chance to achieve sovereignty within that region, but establishing one rule of law, one system of arms, instead of a bunch of feuding militias. When talking about the lack of sovereignty, people mention Israel's control over all crossings. This is not accurate. The IDF only controls crossings that are contiguous to its border with Gaza, logical for any countries with crossings on its borders. The Rafah crossing, for example, on the border btwn Gaza and Egypt is monitored by Gaza and Egypt, not Israel. Is Israel not supposed to monitor its own borders with Gaza and merely wait for anarchical spillover into its territory. Is Israel supposed to assume that groups such as Hamas, calling for Israel's annihilation, be granted freedom within WB, when internal checkpoints have been statistically proven to significantly hamper and foil the persistent threats of suicide attacks derived in that area constantly? Such expectations are truly taking things out of context, wouldn't you say?
