How about competition for steimatzky. We need a chain that will sell books at an affordable price and have a larger selection in english.

When I go to America for business or vacation, I always spend quite a few evenings at Barnes and Noble - it's great for me and them - I buy coffee and a muffin, grab some books, and I ALWAYS end up buying something too. I never understood why such a concept was not in Israel... so we welcome you!

Prices for sifrei kodesh (and others in English) defy logic in Israel

That is great news, but only if the prices of English books are similar to what they are in U.S. B & N, not what they are in Israel. Most of us just wait til we go to the U.S. to buy books because they are so much more expensive here.
10. Good news

I use to buy books in English and French via B & N website. Though the service is good, the delivery is expensive. B & N bookshops are very welcome in Israel!

To # 5 Total rubbish. Steimatzky anyway is a total rip off for English books and magazines.

13. #7 &# 8: Books in Israel are not expensive
Esther ,   Jerusalem   (09.17.06)
#7, Gabriela, Try to buy sifrei kodesh in Europe. .. And #9: Sorry , but double check with Amazon's website ( local price), always more expensive, if you compare non-used books. Katnuniot!!!! None of you double-check prices and none of you think about the service that the seller does to you by buying, importing, payung taxes and stocking + the risk of seeing the books plenty of dust on stock. BTW, how many books more would you buy if they were cheaper? Lehitlonen stam, eize keif!
