The pope was quoting from an historical book, not making up his own words. He may or may not agree with the quote, but it is still a valid point. The problem is these protesters do not even want a debate or discussion that they don't agree with. They just scream and call names without debating the point. Talk about destroying free speech! If it is not true, why be offended?

Why are you not proud as muslims to state what your irrefutable scripture says? I suppose that the Idea of a Jihad for a Caliphate is only a successful TV advertisement spot for peacefully RPG's and Katiusha's as their are very popular our days in the Muslim world. Anyone who is educated and who has a sound mind will know what the Pope's intention when he quoted from the historic quotations. The muslims just pick a line and interpret that as sword stabbed into their religion, without looking at the context of his speech. The Pope speaks the truth about spreading faith through violence is completely contrary to God's plan. He wants people of other faiths especially Islam to respect each other's religions and welcome dialogues towards others. However, the muslims now not only refusing to see the truth the Pope is saying but wants to rouse hatred and violence against all the rest of the Christian humanity - and this is how muslims everywhere will always choose to respond to everything they do not like to hear - their reactions are always violence (see the pictures they burnt in India at BBC's website http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_pictures/5349604.stm) and using the name of God to justify their anger and violence. Have they lost their mind? They will defend that Islam is always peacefully - but looked at what they do! Totally contrary to what they preach. I don't give a rat's ass about what the pope said about Islam. Islam was shoved up our assess by the Arabs just like Christianity was shoved up the asses of a lot of people. Only the Jews are exempt from this charge because they INVENTED all of this bullshit. My problem is that the Europeans are trying to find a substitute for the Jews in Europe to kill. But this time the flames they are trying to fan will burn them. Go figure.

In a speech about faith and reason at an university in Germany the pope made a short quotation from a Byzantine Christian emperor in the 14th centuary. His empire was under siege by Muslim armies which by the way in the end conquered the last remnants of the empire including the capital Konstantinopel (nowadays Istanbul) in the year 1453. Priests and monks were murdered as a large part of the inhabitants. Many were sold as slaves. Churches were desecrated, destroyed or turned into mosques. The emperor had, for good reasons,not been able to see much of the peaceful side of Islam. I suppose that cannot be forgiven him or the pope.
