carl ,   iowa, usa   (09.16.06)
these fanatics are everywhere in every country and their is not stopping their quest to take us back hundreds of years. apparently you cant even quote someone anymore if the quote may offend muslims. why dont we all go to the library and burn all books which might contain a passage that muslims would be offended by. They claim that religion should be respected but they mock jews all the time. hypocrisy!!!!!!!
2. ibig deal, islam is fighting everybody anyway
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (09.16.06)
the common denominator in most of the world's conflicts is islam. i thought islam was the religion of peace? oops.
3. War is what the Media Wants
kurt ,   san diego california   (09.16.06)
The media exist for 4 purposes: (in descending order) 1. To Sell 2. To Entertain 3. To Persuade 4. To Inform Simply put: A war would make more money for the media. Jews and Muslims should be at peace, I believe this is what G-d wants. Radical Islam will always look for something to rationalize acts of violence. I agree that their acts only make fools out of them by proving the Pope’s quote accurate. It's better that the Pope revealed their wounds now, than later; it gives everyone more time to allow for healing! According to the Zohar, G-d smites those who he loves to remind them of their sins. I believe that.
4. Extrimists in Muslim world want reason to ignite Jihad wars
KMR ,   Middle East   (09.16.06)
5. All religious people are diseased
Atheist ,   USA   (09.16.06)
Fanatical Moslems and fanatical Christians are afflicted by the same mental disorder. Less fanatical religious people are only different in that they suffer to a lesser degree. People should take responsibility for their actions and should not allow cynical polictical and religious leaders to exploit their superstitions. Anyone calling for violence against his fellow man for religious reasons deserves to die. Just leave us sane ones out of it.
6. Wait and see what will happen Europe

7. Islam
Menachem ,   Stockholm   (09.16.06)
Instead of getting all bent out of shape about the Pope’s remarks; why don’t they use all that energy and try to clean up the negative image their religion is having throughout the world?
8. West is fighting everybody
Armit ,   london   (09.16.06)
The common denominator of all these troubles is the west, it is sitting over all the Muslim world and fingering it whenever there is an opportunity.
9. Where's the apology from an Islamic Leader?
Ben ,   Anytown USA   (09.16.06)
Still waiting for an apology for Sept. 11th 2001.
10. Who needs apology for beheadings?
NASRAAL LAAMA ,   Cairo, Egypt   (09.16.06)
When Imams look at the Pope, who do they think really needs apology? Christians need apology from these Imams for they "secretly" accept beheadings on christians yet none of them ever stood up to say they are sorry because of their teachings. Yet they go about ranting when ever history is touched. We should stop reading. We should now become sectarians. Islam is not what they teach in their groups if not we would have been seeing it.
11. Pope remarks

12. a bit of symmetry
Dr. NO ,   jerusalem   (09.16.06)
Ahmadenijad wants to wipe out Israel and gets away with it. The Pope should apologize for quoting someone from the 14th century?
13. Theres your Fire and Brimstone
Nobody ,   New You, NY   (09.16.06)
The same can be said of christianity. God is probably very disappointed in both. However if we could just have more torture I am sure everything will get better. God likes torture I guess. Perhaps it will make us safe. If we in the US were constantly being bombed, killed, have our sons, daughters, sisters, bothers kill not by a few unsavoy characters but by an organized effort of another country (Of course in our narrow little minds this is not possible) yade ya dee ya dah

17. Amercian Catholic Baffled At Pope's Comment
Gerard St. James ,   New York, NY USA   (09.16.06)
I am an American Catholic and I believe (as does every American I speak to about this) that Muslims worldwide have a right to expect a sincere apology for the Pope's bizarre and decidedly unholy choice of quotation. After all, Catholic history , itself, is rife with violent actions in the name of God that could be quoted today. But to what end? This kind of discourse does nothing to unite people with a common devotion to the God of Abraham. And the leader of the Catholic Church should be held to the highest standard, given the influence of his public platform. I can only guess that the Pope mistakenly hoped by his words to encourage Muslims to take an aggressive role in containing their radical groups -- those who distort Islam's foundation of reason and peace with their violence and hatred. But look what he accomplished instead: the radicals who claim offense at those remarks reacted with what? -- hateful violence and deadly threats instead of constructive reason and peace. So, while the Muslim world awaits a deserved apology from a man who pales in comparison to his gifted predecessor, perhaps it is wise to look inward: for Catholics to identify and eliminate their own prejudices and demand truly holy words from their leader; and for Muslims to ask, "What have I done to prevent radicals from permanently linking my Holy Prophet's name with violence?"

19. Reaction Proving Pope's Point
Shaka   (09.16.06)
The Pope's message was that religion must be divorced from violence. While Jeudaism and Christianity had a long history in Violence they have long ago been divorced and are today a driving force only of Peace. However Islam has not yet decided on this Path. When someone reacts to comments that they should not be violent with violence they are proving the point. Muslims are now burning churches and threatning the entire world with violence because the Pope explained tha Islam is violent and must stop being violent this is proving the Pope's point. It is said that a silent majorit of Muslims are not for violence and are moderate and only want peace however if this is true than they are a real silent silent majority. Islam the choice is yours it seems the Pope just held up the mirror to you and you must choose what you see. Salam.
20. talking out of both sides of their mouth
JT ,   Sacramento CA, USA   (09.16.06)
Students of Islam constantly talk about it as the religon of peace, yet the leaders of their own religon constantly preach violence and genocide. Do they ever stand up to the violent factions of their own religon? no. How much killing is going on every year in the name of Mohammed? The international news is filled with it daily. I think the Pope is right on this one...
21. War?!?!
Me ,   AmericaTheBeautiful   (09.16.06)
Perhaps the Pope is right. One mention that Muslims don't agree with and they are ready to kill. What a sickness this world has in the form of religious radicals.
22. Pope's speech
Mina ,   London, UK   (09.16.06)
It is a sad day when Muslims are incapable of reading and understanding the speech given by the Pope. When they only take one comment and then go on to prove what Muslims and non-Muslims alike know to be true, that religion is being used ot incite violence. Calling for the Pope's death? Fire-bombing churches? Is this really a relgiion of peace? Enough. The world is becoming intolerant of these continued outbursts

26. Tantawi, the Pope and ignorance of Islam
eh-oop ,   UK   (09.16.06)
Tantawi claims that the Pope's statements stem from complete ignorance of Islam. This is the same Tantawi who praised the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, stated that it is every Muslim's duty to blow himself up in the heart of Israel and described Jews as the enemies of Allah, descendants of apes and pigs - this last statement being used by many enemies of Israel. No, the Holy Father got it right. Someone else look up what these other taqiyya-mongers have said, please.

Sorry...am I missing something here? How is it that history is all of a sudden WRONG just because half the world says it is? Islam WAS spread by the sword, just like Chritianity was spread by the sword, just like Americanism is being spread by the sword! Islam, you don't care about the HONOUR of the Prophet, you just hate the Western world because we've oppressed you for the last 1000 years. Let's call it what it is. Islam, The West, anybody: it's time to stop whining about everything and to grow up! Get out of the Dark Ages, will ya! God is God, God is not you, not your politics, not our politics, Not your hatred, not your fear, not our Ignorance! STOP TRYING TO START A WAR! The Pope is right...The past is full of Stupid People. Let's drop the PC BS and call it what it is!
