Microsoft's ongoing investment in Israel's tech sector is yet another vote of confidence in Israel's talent. Perhaps Microsoft hopes such talent will help them emerge from their current mediocrity, as Intel Israel helped save its own parent. But it may not be enough. Microsoft is kept afloat by the monopoly profits of its Windows and Office franchises and its monster cash pile. But its development model is broken, its leadership in question, and its customer base unimpressed with its current offerings. Even the coming Vista and Zune products are no match for Apple's OS X and iPod offerings. Beyond that, Israel should be cognizant of the security risks associated with Microsoft's Windows products. To the extent that Israel relies on such products for its critical infrastructure, it will remain vulnerable to its increasingly sophisticated cyber enemies.

Macs that have both Tiger and Windoz. Firefox and Tiger 10.4.7 keeps the creepies away and the Mac running. Apple runs, MS crawls. IBM should have called Israel when it was looking for an operating system instead of Bill Gates.
