1. missing the point, syrians dont just want the golan
(09.27.06)
why do they house all these terrorists?
2. are you guys suicidal again?
robert ,   potomac md usa   (09.28.06)
Syria wants all of Northern Israel--along with Lebanon and the "good parts" of Jordan--as part of ash-shams--Greater Syria. You would be absolutely retarded and insane and suicidal to give up one inch of the Golan-- If you don't remember, Syria in 1973 intended to conquer not jus the golan--but the Galil too--and might have done it thanks to your then stupid, arrogant lack of preparedness. Needed in the Israeli leadership: once ounce of common sense.
3. Wasn't Peres supposed to be investigated?
sk ,   USA   (09.28.06)
As I recall, the odious M. Mazuz was supposed to investigate Peres. Any sign of this now? Hm. Maybe Mazuz can investigate Aharon Barak, who apparently has 17 deluxe apartments though he has always been a public servant. I'm sure there's nothing to worry about here, though.
4. Syrians Can't Fight Their Way Out Of A Paper Bag
Seth ,   Washington, DC   (09.28.06)
5. Assad and Hama, Peace with that guy?
(09.28.06)
6. Assad wants the Golan Ht as a launching pad 4 rockets
John ,   NZ   (09.27.06)
to fire into Israel. And this is Ahmed's idea. Look @ Gaza now. They demanded it back for peace, now what happen.
7. If peres had his way. there would be no Israel
Arie ,   Afula   (09.28.06)
8. Peres does not get it
Sam Weinstein ,   USA   (09.28.06)
He was the one back in the early 1970's that agreed to the Kissinger Disengaement Paln for the Golan after the 73 war. Now there is not much left to negotaite with and that will doom any negotaiations. He wants to give up everything.
9. WHY DON'T YOU GUYS ELECT PERES?
Knave Dave   (09.27.06)
He's, at least, rational, and seems to have a lot of respect on the world stage and was no more prone to giving away the Golan Heights for nothing than Netanyahoo. Do you want a leader of reason and intellect or a scheister like Olmrat?
10. Neither Bashar or his Papa want the Golan. They want all Isr
Alan ,   SA   (09.27.06)
11. the golan belongs only to Jews!!!!END
(09.28.06)
12. how does saying the golan is theirs help israel ???
aaron ,   ra'anana   (09.28.06)
eventually the UN will demand that we give it back or face sanctions. by not respecting the basic law : the golan (1980) which annexed the golan heights to israel (something which was never done to gaza) the labor party has hurt our bargaining position...
13. More from the Knave (9)
sk ,   USA   (09.28.06)
"WHY DON'T YOU GUYS ELECT PERES?" asketh the Knave Dave. Perhaps because Israelis aren't THAT stupid? Peres has neither reason nor intellect; he has only avarice. Maybe that's why you like him so?
14. Another response to Pro-Arab comments…
LeoP ,   Moscow   (09.28.06)
I recently wrote a comment on ynet where I responded to all the pro-arab talkbacks… (I will repost it if enough people ask, but I think it might anger some others). These talk backs were met with mixed emotions. I have received emails of support and the usual emails of hate (I knew they were coming, but I posted my email address more because I wanted to see what the general reaction would be… but I digress) In any case, my questions went unanswered… Israeli’s and Jews supported me, arabs cursed me… I would like to dare a rational and convincing citizen of this world to change my opinion of world politics today. Change my support for Israel. I am a true outsider. I have more reason to be against Israel than to support it. Yet, I am compelled to support it. Everyday I grow more cemented in my opinions that what the Israeli’s are facing is something the whole world should open up their eyes to. If you would like to discuss with me these issues, or pick my brain, answer these questions for me and either talk back or email them to me… Why are Arab people so poor while their regimes are so filthy rich? Arafat was worth billions, Saudi royal family worth billions, Saddam worth billions, Bin Laden worth billions, Nazrallah worth millions, Iran’s leadership worth billions, etc etc etc… and don’t answer me that Israel’s leadership is also rich, because although they are rich, the quality of life of the nation isn’t suffering at the expense of their fortune . The bottom line is that Israeli leadership might be rich, but Israeli people are overall enjoying a high standard of living; whereas Arabs are mostly dirt poor with only the royals or the dictators or the terrorists collecting all the wealth… its fine with me that they are wealthy, just why is it that they are the only ones that are wealthy? If you can answer this rationally I will be grateful. Why are Arabs so driven to destroy Israel? Why do they consider it stolen land? Israel won numerous wars to secure that property (already a legitimate reason for having rights to that land). Israel has made the most use of that land. This tiny nation has roared louder than the mightiest of lions. You complain that Israel refuses the right of return. Well, pray tell then, why when you call for this ‘right’ you don’t also include the right of return of Jews to arab countries? Also, why should Israel accept palis when Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt refuses to accept them? It seems highly irrational that Israel should give jobs, healthcare, and support the 9 children per woman lifestyle of a Palestinian when their own brothers don’t want to put such a burden on their own economies. Prove me wrong! Finally, you complain that the EU and the US are not giving you enough money. This has got to be my favorite gripe from the palis. You want the EU and the US to compensate you for the speeches you make against the EU and the US. You want to be paid by western countries to commit terrorism against western interests? No of course you don’t, you’ll say you want the funds to build schools, hospitals, and put food on the table. Well, then this brings me back to my first question, what did Arafat do with all the money they gave him to build schools, hospitals, and put food on the table?
15. israel missed the chance
rangan kalimuthu ,   nagercoil india   (09.28.06)
history is going to prove that israel ,and not he arabs who missed the chance for peace. and those goverments which made peace with israel will find that they along with israel are losers.the surprise is why the jewish people with all their inteligence could not see it coming..even after the defeat in lebanon they do not seem to apreciate the ground realities. may be inteligence and wisdom canot coexist. inteligence and arrogance is a dangerous combination
16. Assad Sr. missed chance...So What!
BJL ,   Appleland USA   (09.28.06)

19. and Israel too
(09.28.06)
Israel would have one less big problem .... and if Arafat came to Camp David too Israel would not have any problems now .... the chance was it not only for Assad but for Israel too ... and that's why it's not too late .... Israel is the first and the bigest winner if peace made with all the arabs ... tourism will be much more activ ... trade with the Arab world will be much much biger because Israel has good technology and good products and the Arabs are very good buyers .... Israel will spend less money in buying weapons and producing weapons .... no more boycott on Israel anywhere in the world because of racism ...... and over all of this ... the people will sleep much better .... and the arabs are tierd from wars too and they want to have peace too .... all sides are fed up from wars ... only the American weapons factories not ... the middle east gets more poor and those weapons factories gets more rich ... thik abu it .... why not
20. Peres...head perpetually up his A....
Bob ,   kiryat ata   (09.28.06)
Thank G-d he didn't come to camp david. Then we'd be in a really bad position today. The Golan is part of Israel and should remain so. No country in its right mind would give up the only high ground that protects its border...at least not voluntarily. Peres will never get his head out of his weird ideological A....
21. arafat = peres for israel
aangry reuven ,   usa   (09.28.06)
WHEN IS THIS FOOLISH MAN GOING TO SHUT UP??I HOPE SOON.HE IS THE WORSE ENEMY OF ISRAEL.ASK THIS FOOL, ALL THAT YOU GAVE, DID YOU FIND PEACE ??
22. Peres now admits he was wrong!
The Perescope ,   Beit Shemesh, Israel   (09.28.06)
Finally it's happened. Now that more than 1,300 innocent Israelis have been murdered by Palestinian terrorists in the thirteen years since he began his Oslo misadventure does Peres admit that peace with the Palestinians is impossible. There should be a commission of inquiry to investigate the Oslo disaster that Peres foisted upon the State of Israel.
23. This traitor peres would give away strategic Jewish land
Bunnie Meyer ,   Santa Monica,CA USA   (09.28.06)
that Jews died for in wars. Why give this traitor any publicity.
24. #22 What are you talking about??
Edan ,   Israel   (09.28.06)
Don't paraphrase someone just for he hell of it. He never said anything like that. With all of the Peres -bashing over here on the English site, it's too bad most of the bashers here don't know Hebrew so that they could see in the Hebrew site how admired this man is in Israel. Yeah thats right; when you play armchair politics from afar, you do not always get an accurate picture. PERES FOR PM!!!!
25. LeoP #14 I was prepairing this for you
John ,   USA   (09.28.06)
Reading these posts on Ynet, I thought “What are the things that all good people have in common?” That’s simple. We all want to live in peace. We want to have food on the table. To make a world where our children can grow and prosper. So where do we differ? That’s more complicated, and in my mind not so important. It’s what we have in common that is what interests me. The situation I understand best is Bush and Bin Laden. I thought the first mistake he made is to call it a war on terrorism. He took a small ragtag bunch of criminal terrorists who had no support whatsoever, and gave them the stature of a nation by calling it a war. The second mistake was to let Bin Laden slip through his fingers when he had him beaten and cornered. But maybe this wasn’t a mistake after all. Some now say he did it on purpose. With Bin Laden gone, the fear would have been gone. How could he motivate America to invade Iraq without the fear? It was Roosevelt who said “The only thing to fear is fear itself.” When is the last time you ever heard a modern leader say such a thing? Bust says “we are winning the war on terror.” Meanwhile he tells us the war on terror will never end, we must always be vigilant. It’s perfect fear-mongering. The new line is to be afraid of Iran. But afraid of what? They don’t have the bomb, and according to the IAEA they are nowhere near getting one. If you believe Bush and Israel, they’ll start nuking Tel Aviv next month. I think Bush simply had in mind to control the oil supply because oil is the real engine that drives the world economy. My personal view is that leaders exploit everybody’s religious fervor for political and economic gain. Now there are even movements to equate the religious and the political struggle into one. I see this as an unholy and dangerous development. The war in Lebanon, whether you believe is was a reaction to attacks by Hizbullah, or a planned event to destroy Hizbullah’s power in Lebanon, quickly turned into a collective punishment war against the Lebanese to create what looked like attempt to reignite the Lebanese civil war. It was an attempt to turn the Lebanese against one another, and it didn't work. The Lebanese, although they have their differences, had a civil war, and they know what that is, and they weren't going to have another one to please the Israelis. Hizbullah was surprised by the Israeli reaction, and may just lose their support from Syria before it’s all over. They committed war crimes by shooting rockets at civilian areas. So I don’t think anyone can say they won the war in Lebanon. The Arab leader, as is well known a believed by EVERYONE are corrupt and cynical. Democracy is not an option because people are so fed up in those countries they vote for extremists out of desperation (Palestinians voting for Hamas, Egyptians voting for Islamic Jihad.) I used to live in Lebanon, so I understand what the situation is there. The Lebanese government is weak and fractionalized. It was only formed because everyone was so tired of the civil war that they had no choice. Hezbullah was included because they had enough support. Well, enough of my tirade, I guess my ultimate point is that there seems to be so much noise from both fringes of the issues that the people in the middle (that’s me) seem to get drowned out. I think there is so much fear mongering now that it’s very hard to see the real goal. I want to see a world where everyone can get along. I think that most sane minded people in Arabia and Israel, and indeed everywhere share this view. The question in my mind is how do we get there.
26. John #25... indeed
LeoP ,   Moscow   (09.28.06)
I agree that fear is ruling people, its one of the most historically successful tools used by governments to control people. Yet, it is being misused today. If fear were to really rule people, let fear reign... i'm not advocating war, but if a war is to be fought, then fight it the right way, there is no reason to pussyfoot the issues and have a fight that produces nothing at all (e.g. iraq, lebanon, etc) Thanks for the support John, I look forward to seeing more of your posts.
