So the thief, hardened to his trade by a string of successful (West-) bank jobs, continues to ransack his neighbours' property by saying that the victims shoot back at him, and anyone who shoots a thief obviously is not interested in ( allowing him to steal) peace.
32. Chose Settlements or peace
A Bethlehemite   (09.28.06)
not to mention the world requested in security council 452 urging Israel to cease settlement construction. Israel saying it wants peace is the best joke ever

You will be surprised how much history I know. I think the main problem was perfectly illustrated in your answer. You and yours frankly don't care about my opinion or your countrymen's opinion. That is why when settlers are made to leave they don't understand what happen. Forget the arabs for a moment thinks about the Israelis, most of them do not support you.
34. Peres is right
Brod ,   USA   (09.28.06)
Israel has all the rights in the world to develop its own biblical and historic homeland. Peres is right. Why should Israel play into the latent hands of the Islamist-Jihadist world to progromize its own people? It is none of the business of other countries or external entities to interfere with Israel internal affairs.

36. the new look of Peres
(09.28.06)
The guy is looking for a new roll in the political life .... he didn't realise that he became too old and usless and all what he saying is just dust in the air .... you can all believe him it's good for your moral , you need somthing to raise up your mood after the shock of Hizballah .
37. stop settling !
eugene ,   israel   (09.28.06)
i can understand why idf is occupying some territories..its for our own security, but i dont understand this settling mentality, those lands aren't ours, and they will be returned one day when the arabs will cool down, so why building there and then moaning about disengagement.. drop this religious bullshit already..it's getting us nowhere
38. Bethlehemite: Choose War And You Choose Another Naqba
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (09.28.06)
Just say the word, cousin. You won't ethnically cleanse Jews from here again like you did in 1948. But YOU will hit the road.

40. Oh yeah, and Hillary Clinton is a hawk.
sk ,   USA   (09.28.06)
Anyone who believes that Peres supports Jews in Yesha is fooling himself. Peres really should be laughed out of politics. Hey, what happened to that impending criminal investigation of Peres? Yesterday's news?
41. word play to 33 ian
david ,   gush etzion   (09.28.06)
you are typical someone who is good at wordplay and turn things around. If a majority wants something that does not automaticily mean they are right.I may point out chanuka were the minority proved the majority was on the wrong track.I doubt you have any knowledge of torah, but if you knew we as a jewish nation can only live here if we follow its instructions.I know you english think that you are very civilized and superior. If you look at YOUR historic track record you will see that you guys are deep down cruel and ruthless. You may think that you can outwitt anyone but Judea and the Shomron are our birthright. There is no such thing as palistinians and in truth you english left us a bloody mess like you did in india. So ian deep down you are a anti jewish nation and we have not forgotten how you expelled the jews twice from england and how you murderd the jewish community of york.We are called the people of the book and i feel very soon it is payback time with interest for all of you who curse us.
42. To #4 and #12 - Settlements/67 borders = more terror
Ben ,   Pennsylvania USA   (09.28.06)
Um.. so what you are trying to say that before 1967 there was no terror? I guess the slaughters that took place form the 1800s until 1967 were because the Palestinians knew they would be deprived of land in 1967 right? In the 1930's when local Pali's yelled "Itbach al yahud" they were doing it because they knew that in 1967 they would lose some land. That people still try to sell this crap amazes me.
43. Settlement construction can't be prevented

Who said it was stopped ? the Israelis would have gone more made; It was the easier soultion. But it will not be.

Michael ,   Haifa   (09.28.06)
You and your ilk in the other settlements are one of the reasons that rockets fell on Haifa. Unlike you, I have not watched "kochav nolad". I merely suffer people like you here in Talkback.
46. Peres for the good of Israel, RETIRE

47. INCREDIBLY LAUGHABLE
Arik Silverman ,   Milwaukee USA   (09.28.06)
Can somebody tell me what is so desirable about a face-to-face meeting with Olmert? Likewise getting invited to the White House for a face-to-face meeting with George Bush? WHAT DO PALESTINIAN POLITICIANS GAIN FROM THAT???? If substantial talks were to commence and lead somewhere, it would be one thing, but a mere "meeting" is not exactly a prize. IF PALESTINIAN LEADERS ARE SO STUPID THAT THEY VALUE AS A PRIZE A MEETING WITH OLMERT OR BUSH, THEN THEY ARE TOO STUPID TO RUN A COUNTRY.
48. plenty of space IN ISRAEL left
chad ,   usa   (09.28.06)
And not outside of Israel. Why doesn't the govt build "settlements" in southern Israel? Why don't you give the gazans and west bankers that land if you're not going to use it. please.

Secular Sabra ,   Israel   (09.29.06)
Well said haver , well said . I could not agree with you more . Personally I think Peres is aiming for the Presidents shoes ;) He is making a huge mistake in supporting more settlements but his ego is bigger than his wish for Peace.

53. Reply # 52
Secular Sabra ,   Israel   (09.29.06)
The voice of the tolerant settler has spoken . What makes you think that we pay any attention to what you have to say ? I will never leave this country that my great-grandparents and grandparents built from sand and swamp. You on the other hand have no future in the West Bank..... you are on another peoples land , we will give it back to them and we will make Peace with them like Rabin wanted us to. You remember Rabin right ? You should do .... you and yours murdered him .. and Peace .
54. ISRAEL HAS STOOD ON ITS HEAD
Knave Dave ,   U.S.A.   (09.30.06)
First, the great champion of settlements in Gaza, General Ariel Sharon, becomes the man who champions dismantling them ... and succeeds. Now the dove, Peres, is championing building them. Your leaders are all doing backflips, Israel. What is happening with you? Could it be that God has put you in confusion as he said in Deuteronomy 28: "If you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands ... all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:... The Lord will send on you curses, confusion and rebuke in everything you put your hands to, until you are destroyed and come to SUDDEN RUIN because of the evil you have done in foresaking him." Have you foresaken, God, Israel? Only you and He can know for sure; but the losses of the past few decades do not look like you are succeeding at anything you do, and the confusion of leaders standing on their heads is almost a riddle in itself. Now, even Peres is spinning on his head.
55. new homes
Hilda ,   USA   (09.30.06)
First things stop calling them settlements. Where indeed are the new immigrants supposed to live if not in new homes? Israel has already caused 9,000 inside refugees plus the ones displaced in northern Israel by the war and the homes destroyed in Sderot. You can't expect peoplke to move in with their parents and grandparents and have room to raise their families. Israel like any other nation has the right sand indeed the obligation to plan homes for the new generations to come. Build . It's your land. Samaria and Judea are part of Israel as much as and more than Tel Aviv. Let the Arabs move to Arabia which is their ancestral home and clear the desert there. I know it's easier and nicer to steal the land after it's been cleared by the Jews.
56. to #8 in Brazil
Hilda ,   USA   (09.30.06)
My dear as soon as Israel waters and improved the Negev you can be sure that the Arabs, the UN and the left wing Israelis would find some illogical reason to turn it over to the Arabs. The Arabs only started their active campaign to take over Israel when the Jews made the deserts bloom and cleared the swamps of malaria.
