91. Sacha Baron Cohen
R. Taverna ,   San Antonio, U.S.A.   (10.02.06)
Mr. Cohen, as I see him, is a man desperately seeking attention at the expense of Kazakhstanis and Jews throughout the world. Where is Uncle Milty when we need him?
92. ADL concerns
Ziggy ,   MI, USA   (10.02.06)
Little suggestion. For those not enough sofisticated in the parody ADL should use subtitles or put in the corner of the screen sign language interpreter. They are fun to watch.
93. Borat Sucks!
Nudnik ,   NY, USA   (10.02.06)
Sacha/Borat's movie will fail miserably because his "humor" is just too "sophisticated" for the goyish population. Plus, objectively speaking, he's just not funny, and indeed, is bloody annoying after the first 5 mins. or so. (Oh, and it's not fair that he's picking on Kazakhstan, but that won't matter when the movie bombs on its own lack of merit.) Hopefully, Sacha will just go away.
94. Sacha: Immediate Going Away for Make Happiness World!
Irkuz ,   Yurt, NJ   (10.02.06)
Just a matter of time until he goes away.
95. Borat
Tony ,   Mesa, AZ   (10.02.06)
The ADL's warning that Borat's comedy may not translate well when others retell or mimic hits home for me. As an 8-year-old I saw a cartoon by, I believe, Jules Pheiffer where a character claimed that "Jews eat babies". Like Borat, it was an attempt to satirize anti-semitism and denounce it through humour. Yet when I tried to retell the cartoon to my Jewish peers it created nothing but discomfort and offense...the satire did NOT translate in the retelling.
96. borat
Tom ,   southampton usa   (10.02.06)
the ADL must think we are really dumb. My advice to them is to make friends with goyum... we are not that stupid.
97. Borat
rima ,   washington   (10.02.06)
Oh, get a life! How thin skinned can you be? He's hilarious and harmless. I worry about his safety, however, since the Kazakhs are hopping mad at him.
98. ADLs concerns.
Aaron Shannon ,   Austin, Texas   (10.02.06)
Give me a break. Just what we need. More PC police telling us to be quiet, lest we, god forbid, offend anyone.
99. regarding Kazakhs
Aaron Shannon ,   Austin   (10.02.06)
Look, we KNOW that your country is not what its portrayed as. I live in Texas, and have to deal with peoples unrealistic ideas of what its like. They think we are all racists, or we ride horses around, or that we all love us some George Bush. Not true. Its a big place, and there lots of different people here, some are good, some are bad. SO goes the planet. But I don't feel the need to censor someone who is making fun of Texas, because if you can't laugh at yourself, you are going to have a hard life.
100. Borat
David ,   Carmel, CA   (10.02.06)
How can you play this moral equivalency game? Recommending that Cohen NOT target Kazakhstan, but instead "use a mythological country." Are you at all familiar with the injustice that occurs on a daily basis in that Country? The civil abuses? They deserve everything they get, in terms of comedic 'revenge,' and so much more! Come on!
101. Gimmie a Break
Bo ,   Fairfield   (10.02.06)
The ADL is a joke. If Choen was not Jewish himself the ADl would outright condemn him like others that portray Jews in a negative light. They are mildly scorning him because he is one of their own. The ADL is a joke.
102. Borat and Kazakhstan
Steve Blake ,   Los Angeles, CA   (10.02.06)
Maybe there's no such thing as bad publicity. The Kazakhs have always minded their own nomadic business and have never bothered anybody (they aren't in the slightest bit anti-Semitic despite being predominately Muslim) which is maybe why nobody knows about them. Kazakhs suffered terribly under the Tsarist and Soviet regimes which tried to force them to forgo their nomadic way of life. Almaty is a beautiful city! (of course Aktau is even more beautiful!) I hope Borat's humour encourages people to learn about and visit Kazakhstan.
103. adl
(10.02.06)
when they made this press release did they include themself as those who are unable to recognize its farcical nature
104. Borat
Jon Edelstein ,   Cranford, NJ USA   (10.02.06)
Borat's (Cohen's) humor and lessons are hardly groundbreaking. Remember Archie Bunker of the 1970's? His virulent bigotry was so over the top that it showed most how ignorant it was. The ADL needs to lighten up and embrace the lunacy that is Borat.
105. Give criticism where criticism is due
JJ ,   Dallas, USA   (10.02.06)
This guy is just a comedian making fun of some country in Asia. We have Leno and others ridiculing France all the time, and they're an ally of ours. It's satire. Satire at the expense of anti-Semites. Racism is stupid, and sometimes comedy's the best antidote for stupidity. Why not laugh at Kazakhstan? If the country thinks that a comedian's routines are being taken seriously, they should consider psychiatric help.
106. Hmm ... What if a Mid Eastern made fun of Jews
Tyler ,   Los Angeles   (10.02.06)
It's interesting how a Jew can get away with taking this as far as he does yet if the tables were turned and it was a Lebanese or something making fun of extremist Jews, there would be no studio backing and it and it would be called "anti-semitism".
107. Borat's' Mockery-Parody Exposed
Shlomo ,   Ishrael   (10.02.06)
Borat points to Mocking Jews by Mocking Kasakh's. Typical Hypicral, eh?
108. similar yet enemies
Samy ,   Dubai, UAE   (10.02.06)
Cohen, just like many jews, is so similar to Arabic people, yet the seemingly historical hostilities between the 2 groups is mind-boglling
109. ADL
Bill ,   Boston, MA   (10.02.06)
Perhaps the ADL thinks we're all not as smart as they are. Perhaps also, the ADL should be more concerned about the Jews who have turned against their own here in America!! Liberalism is a mental disorder.
110. Borat has shown the real Khazakstan
Olaf ,   Warrenton, VA   (10.02.06)
I was going to visit that country but once I saw the news reports from Borat I decided not to. Apparently in that country incest is prevalent and I think the US govt should boycot everything from that backwards nation.
111. # 106 I agree
SD ,   London UK   (10.02.06)
Personally I find Ali G and Borat hilarious. But I have a sneaking suspicion that if an Arab did an over the top send up of, say, a religious greater Israeli Jew theyd be banned for life. Also, in the UK many young urban African and Asian kids take Ali G seriously - he's become their role model. There is something a bit distasteful about an intelligent Cambridge graduate kind of encouraging young kids to mangle their grammar and goof off all the time.
112. Borat-ADL
John ,   Stamford, CT USA   (10.02.06)
30-35 years years ago Norman Lear's All in The Family used a similar techinque to demonstrate the asburdity of bigotry in the US. It's brilliant writing made it one of the most popular shows of the time and is still funny in reruns even today. The farce is a British comedy staple and SB Cohen carries it off well.
113. There are a lot of dumbasses...
Mike ,   NY, USA   (10.02.06)
out there, so I can see how it's possible for something like this to happen.
114. ANTI-SEMISM ISN'T REASONED INTO PEOPLE CAN'T BE REASONED OUT
DAVID P ,   SANTA CRUZ, USA   (10.02.06)
DON'T WORRY ABOUT BAROT MOVIE, ITS PROBABLY VERY FUNNY....TRUST ME, LIBERAL LEFT CONSPIRACY THEORIES DO FAR MORE DAMAGE TO OUR NATIONAL CHARACTER
115. I threw the Jew down the well!
Borat Fan ,   Los Angeles   (10.02.06)
It's just funny. Lighten up people.
116. ADL: Concerned...
tazio ,   chicago,il. USA   (10.02.06)
It might be reasonable to tell people what the ADL is and what the letters stand for.
117. "What if a 'Mid Eastern' (sic) made fun..."
Manuel ,   Austin, TX USA   (10.02.06)
WHAT IF??? How can you not be aware of the vile anti-semitic rhetoric pouring out of the Mid-East??? And they're NOT joking!
118. Cohen
matt ,   arlington, va   (10.02.06)
A mythological Eastern European nation. Hmmmm, that would have generated a lot of press coverage. Lame.
119. Antisemitism & mysogeny -- OK. Speedo Thong -- NO!
Andrew ,   Shanghai   (10.02.06)
I can live with the anti-semitism, the mysongeny, the nationalism & the boorishness -- but that Speedo-thong thing he was wearing is just offensive! Think of the Children! That's just got to be stopped.
120. worried about dumb people?
marsto ,   houston texas usa   (10.02.06)
The whole jist of ADL's concern is that some people won't be "sophisticated" enough to get the joke. That's just a nice way of saying some people aren't smart enough. You'd have to be mentally handicapped to not get this movie. Does the ADL advocate dumbing down all movies so even the simplest of people can 'get it'?
