One of the saddst moments of the war was listening to this hunky lad boasting how out highly trained commandos were in control of Bint Jbeil, only to hear a day later that 8 died in action in the periphery of this wretched town. He has been out of sight ever since. With these big mouth we are heading straight for another Yom Kipoor surprise. The bragging, hubris and prevarication are the cancer eating Israel's defense from within. He is the poster child of this bad conduct and should be deactivated.

No officer in the army exists in a bubble and the dependence and interdepence becomes more and more significant as one reaches a higher rank. A general of any rank is responsible for a number of bases, hundreds of acres, thousands of soldiers. Needless to say, he must delegate and, as such, he's only as good as the information given to him by his subordinates. General Hirsch is not just a 'hunky lad'. He's one of the smartest, most respected officers in the military, with vast and impressive experience over the years. I pray that our society's knee-jerk reflex of witch-hunting doesn't adversely affect him or his position. He is EXACTLY the type of senior officer the IDF needs.
