31. #5 Linda - the Arab "third rail".
Robby ,   San Jose, USA   (10.07.06)
No one in Arab world will ever touch this subject. No newspaper, no writer, no one. Today there are about 2.5 million Palestinian refugees kept in "camps" in Arab countries, not allowed citizenship, often not allow to own land or work. Some are third generation refugees. In the early 90's Kuwait kicked about 3 or 4 hundred thousand out when Arafat and co. sided with Iraq - with little fanfare. And the irony is, the Palestinians that went to the western countries they hate so much the are no longer "refugees" - instead they are full fledged citizens with all rights.
32. #19 Collapse - Tom
Robby ,   San Jose, USA   (10.07.06)
Democracy is more then just be elected - don't forget Hitler and Mussoline were elected too. Saddam Hussein got 100 per cent of the Iraqi vote to. Please take a few minutes and read this BLOG: Golda Meir famously said: “There will only be peace when the Arabs love their children more than they hate the Jews”. Nowhere has this truism been played out more graphically than in Gaza’s present troubles. The near civil war between Fatah and Hamas is all about recognition of Israel (for what it is worth) and acceptance of its agreements so far signed with the Palestinian Authority (for whatever they are worth). Arafat found it easy to make those commitments knowing full well he would ultimately renege on them. But Haniyeh won’t even fake those commitments; such is the pathology of his mutant strain of Islam. And so, the PA’s dream of creating a Palestinian state on the ruins of Gush Katif - along with airports and seaports through which to equip the next assault on the Jewish state - has turned into the nightmare of a civil war. Hamas is content for Arab children to go without schooling and roam the streets at risk of sectarian gunfire rather than even feign acceptance of the Jewish state. And there endeth Golda’s lesson. http://zalmi.blogspot.com/

Lina ,   USA   (10.07.06)
Hamas has done nothing for the Palestinians. Let the Palestinians spend another 60 years denying Israel's existence while Israel thrives and they self-destruct.

38. to 37: clarification on UNSCR 242
NL ,   Israel   (10.07.06)
Mainstream comments regarding UNSCR 242 illustrate the general political trend regarding peace talks with Israel in the ME: application of UN resolutions only to Israel, with convenient amnesia when it comes to Arab (and specifically Palestinian) obligations inherent in these resolutions. Specifically, UNSCR 242 discusses withdrawal from territories (note: NOT 'the' territories, which is a HUGE difference). Withdrawal from territories is meant to facilitate peaceful resolution, which reminds us of the Palestinians' oft-glossed over duty in this resolution. 242 calls for Israel to withdraw to 'secure and recognizable' borders. Pal groups like Hamas, by denying Israel's right to exist, don't even allow for recognizable borders, not to mention their lauding of suicide attacks belies the 'secure' part of the sentence. (BTW, this double-standard is also illustrated, for example, in UNSCR 194, which is currently used to justify Palestinian right of return, but, which, when it was written addressed both Arab refugees from the mandate area AND the modernly-forgotten Jewish refugees from Arab lands at the same time. Another example is UNSCR 1559, which was fully implemented by Israel and was only implemented by the Lebanese following the recent war and a brand new resolution -UNSCR 1701, but I digress...) Using UNSCR 242 to berate Israel without mentioning its inherent requirements from the Palestinians is a flagrant double standard that requires concessions of land and security from Israel and barely requires a denunciation of anti-civilian violence on the part of the Palestinians. Why should only one side (Israel) be required to take 'trust-building' steps and fulfill international obligations? Kindly remember that DIALOGUE REQUIRES TWO PARTIES.

we'll check back later and see if they are interested in recognizing israel...
40. #to 38 WHAT?????
Akram ,   Gaza   (10.07.06)
It's the first time for me to know that the 242 resolution says " territories" not all the territories. I think this was meant by the Israelies at that time??? BRAVO for them, and I can't know how the stupid Arab members at the security council didn't notice that.
41. Hamas was democratically voted in
(10.07.06)
let the voters have who they voted for. There should be not interference. Israeli's have food, money, education, military superiority, infrastructure, beautiful homes and gardens, to say the least. Hamas' adoring voters have rockets, hunger, mud, civil wars brewing and months of unpaid salaries, to say the least. Please let them have who they voted for.
42. funny about democracy
Daniel ,   Washington   (10.07.06)
It's a funny thing about democracy you can have legitimately elected terrorists form a government. Herfe's the funny part .....no one else in the world is obliged to recognize that government any more than they are obliged to recognize another State. In fact no one has to offer aid money or help to that governement or the people who elected it.. So while Hamas was 'democratically elected,' no one in the world has to recognize it or help it. Hamas doesn't have to recognize Israel and form a legitamate partnership in peace, it can choose to continue to starve it's people and squander away billions of US dollars instead of paying salaries. Of course were it to lay down it's arms and recognize Israel....who knows what kind of golden age it might achieve.
43. #37 Trying to STEAL Jewish HOLY LAND Given by G-D
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (10.07.06)
No one is trying to force Muslims out of Mecca and Medina. 22 HUGE, OIL-WEALTHY Arab nations. Tiny Israel only one tenth of one percent of the Middle East. There is no greater prize in the global jihad than tiny Israel - physical and spiritual homeland of Jews and spiritual Holy Land of Christians. G-D, the Holy One of Israel - the Creator gave the Promised Land to Jews and no other people - and it is G-D, Islamists make war against - desecrating and destroying the holy places of Israel's G-D - massively desecrating and destroying at the Temple Mount. Muslims BURNT BIBLES and prayer books at Joseph's Tomb and TORE UP BIBLES FOR TOILET PAPER at Jesus' birthplace, Church of Nativity. Israel's G-D is a G-D to be feared! Bible, Psalm 119:120 My flesh trembles for fear of You, and I am afraid of Your judgments.

45. END the ARAB OCCUPATION. JEWISH REFUGEES MUST HAVE JUSTICE
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (10.07.06)
56 Muslim countries. Only one Jewish state. 22 HUGE, oil-wealthy Arab countries cover over six million square miles, over ten percent of the land surface of earth. TINY, over-crowded Israel, only one tenth of one percent of the Middle East. Stop the land grab of Jewish land - Arab Muslims first started calling themselves "Palestinians" in 1967. Islamist religious supremacists want Jews ethnically cleansed from Biblical Judea and Samaria because Jews don't follow Islam. Around 1948, Arabs violently ethnically cleansed one million Jews from Arab countries. Racist, religious supremacist Arab governments confiscated the land, schools, homes, synagogues, businesses, farms, hospitals and bank accounts of the Jews. Most Jewish refugees fled to Israel where the religious terror war against Jews never stops. It is unacceptable to Muslims for Jews to have self-rule. A bloody jihad that spans the globe. Alija Izetbegovic stated in the ISLAMIC DECLARATION that: - "there can be neither peace nor coexistence between the Islamic faith and non-Islamic social and political institutions"; http://www.balkanpeace.org/cib/bos/bosi/bosi01.html Morality demands that Arab countries compensate the Jewish refugees and their descendants - half of Israel's Jewish population - in land and finances. This human rights issue must be discussed constantly with the U.S. EU, UN, and in homes, schools, social activities, cultural events and synagogues.
46. RIGHT OF RETURN of JEWS to ALL THEIR LAND
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (10.07.06)
Right of return is non-negotiable. All Jewish land stolen in the 1948 Islamic invasion must be returned. In 1948, Egypt invaded Gaza, ethnically cleansing all Jews. In 1948, Jordan invaded Judea, Samaria and east Jerusalem, ethnically cleansing all Jews. Jordan destroyed 58 sacred synagogues in Jerusalem. Arab Muslims first started calling themselves "Palestinians" in 1967. When Israel won Islam's war of aggression against her in 1967, Jews returned to the areas of their homeland they had been ethnically cleansed from for 19 years. Jew-haters deceitfully call Jews' legitimate return "occupation". Under international law, territories are considered "occupied" only when taken in an act of aggression which does not apply to Israel. Judea, Samaria and Gaza are not 'occupied territories' according to international law because they were not taken from any foreign sovereign. The religious terror war against Jews never stops. It is unacceptable to Muslims for Jews to have self-rule in the tiny, re-born Jewish state - a bloody, global war to subjugate every nation to Islam, ruled by sharia law. Alija Izetbegovic stated in the ISLAMIC DECLARATION that: - "there can be neither peace nor coexistence between the Islamic faith and non-Islamic social and political institutions"; http://www.balkanpeace.org/cib/bos/bosi/bosi01.html Jewish ownership of the land, homes and buildings stolen from the Jews in the 1948 Islamic invasion must be restored! The inalienable rights of Jews to their land must be discussed constantly with the U.S. EU, UN and in homes, schools, social activities, cultural events and synagogues.

Normally, I don't have any problems with what you say. Today I must strongly disagree with your statement that U.S. and Britian were complicit with the deaths of six million Jews during WW2. With one exception, (in the Pacific Theater), all attempts to liberate prison camps were met with disaster. That is why the Allies adopted the VICTORY FIRST! policy. They had to first defeat the Axis powers before they could penetrate deep enough into enemy teritory to free prisoners.
54. To #7
Adam ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.07.06)
Actually the 1880 figure you cite includes those on the EAST bank and Bedouins. Additionally, in the 19th century the Jewish population of the land of Israel is thought to have been at it's lowest point in history. Before 1948 ONLY the Jews were considered Palestinians and the non Jews there were considered 'Southern Syrians' . A small fraction of the 'Palestinians' decend from those who were present prior to the British era and less than a fraction of a fraction decend from those who were their prior to 1799. They are not Palestinians nor are they Arabs. They always consdered themselves (those who were concious of any local entity) SHAMIS/SYRIANS. Damascus was their local capital.
55. To #40
Adam ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.07.06)
Actually the word 'the' was according to the authors of the resolution, deliberately ommited from the resolution. In any case, the only land that qualified as 'Occupied' was the Sinai (soveriegn Egyptian) and the Golan (soveriegn Syrian). As the the was ommited and we've given back a majority of that land (Sinai). We are free of those obligations. RE the West Bank and Gaza, not only were they not recognized as part of Egypt and Jordan and Jordan gave away it's claim but also the resolution wasn't intened for and wasn't meant to refer to any sort of 'Palestinian' entity (aside from Jordan) and as such has nothing to do with any 'Palestinian Authority' claims. The only legal document pertaning to the land you sit on Mister is the League of Nations mandate which encourages Jewish settlement on it. If we choose to give some of it to your 'Authority' it is due to demographic concerns.

Adam ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.07.06)
It was Britain's responsibility under international law not just to allow Jewish immigration to Cisjordan but also to facilitate it. That was the reason that it was given to them. They went out of their way to stop it and the first people they shot after declaring war on the Axis were Jews heading for the Levant.
