2. The root of the problem...
European ,   Norway   (10.07.06)
"The majority sees resistance against Israel as legitimate. I advise the Europeans -- don't waste your time. Get to the root of the problem." - the root of the problem is Iran and Syria.
3. The real root of the problem
Neil ,   South Africa   (10.07.06)
is people like you who who is too blind to see the israeli behavior against its neighboring countries
4. the even real'r root of the problem
jerome ,   basalt, co   (10.07.06)
is people like Neil from S.Africa that have very strong opinions and are ignorant, wrong and prejudgdice. The #2European is coorect the problem is Iran and it's sidekick Syria. If the fanatical Islamic nazi fools from Iran where gone, the world would be a much safer place, the recent war in with the HIZBULLSHATALLAH would not have happen and this pathic worm that must have trouble looking in the mirror from Syria would keep his mouth shut !
5. The ultimate root of the problem
Marcel ,   Florida   (10.07.06)
The vast majority of people ignore the root of the Israel -Islam and ,anti-semetic global problem. The revelation of God came by way of the Jews and Israel's continued existence is evidence that His words are true. The devil has tried to erase the irrefutable evidence since before Haman and then thru Hitler, now he attempts to do the same by way of Islam and his fake peace, Bush Road Map. If Israel were alone ,she would have long ago been defeated. Many blind souls assume that it is the U.S. which keeps Israel alive, but the opposite is true. The process of peace has gravely endangered Israel and invited the big war to come. The battle is between the God of Israel and Satan and we already know who loses in the end. Damascus' end is written already Isaiah 17;1

Jeff ,   Philadelphia, USA   (10.07.06)
Assad says: "Ever since Ariel Sharon came to power, Israel has given up on the peace process. Sharon's election was a sign that Israel had comprehensively given up on the peace process and the US government only strengthened this trend. Therefore, naturally, our expectation is that there will not be peace and perhaps will be war," said the president. " He doesn't state that Israel later elected Olmert and a government based on peace and additional pullouts.

elona ,   usa   (10.07.06)
he knows that olmert is a loser he is not stronge the goverment of israel as now is not stronge fighting within. we should not be surprised at the threat from assad. israel has shown itself to have many weakness. where are all the old timers? the arabs have to fear of us. we are coming close to losing. to many liberals.
17. #3 NEIL if you want to kneel, thats fine by me but we dont
Alan ,   SA   (10.07.06)

Foley ,   Manchester, England   (10.07.06)
Israel is not going to attack Syria. It is too weak to launch another war after its crushing defeat by Hizballah. At the moment. Israel is only capable of attacking poor weak Palestinians. It has no chance against the likes of Nasrallah, who managed to teach Israel such that it will not forget for a hundred years. That is why Nasrallah in his speeches has said that he does not believe israel will now strike his militias. Shi'ites guerillas had smashed Israeli army to bits. Syria is not bothered about Israel. In fact, it is more likely that Syria and Hezbollah are getting ready to launch an attack on Israel. Assad has already hinted that war is now the only way to free Golan Heights. Israel might be surprised with a sudden attack by Syrian military, which is now backed by Iran.
19. Amen to that...
Steve ,   Parker CO USA   (10.07.06)
I agree with your insight Marcel - well put. It's interesting to me that 'we men', none more that 80 or 90 yrs on this earth, claim such insight and knowledge about global issues. In our 'pride', we often sound like Assad or Ahmadinijad ourselves! Long before we breathed our first, the outcome was ordained. Yes: Pray for the peace of Israel, Yes: Seek peace and 'neighborly' relationships with border countries, but turn to and acknowledge the plan of God while there's still time. Isaiah saw this happening thousands of years ago. Since 100% of every other Bible prophecy has occurred - we need to take notice of his words in chapter 17. Call me simple, call me a fool, but don't call me to say you haven't been warned!
20. Two-faced
Richard ,   USA   (10.07.06)
He claims they're preparing for the "Israeli aggression", but really he's building up a conflict and just like Iran, trying to use double talk to deceive the entire world. Again Israel will be in a no-win situation, although this time I hope they take enough steps to actually finish the job.
21. #1: Finally? There've been like 4 already

22. #18 LOL watching a bit too much Al Manar have you?
RA   (10.07.06)
23. Leave Me Alone
LMA ,   Elrom   (10.07.06)
As usual, none of you live in the Golan as I do. I would very much look forward to meeting a resident of Syria who is not a represenative of the Syrian government. We can discuss the situation of the Golan as seen from both sides, and start a dialogue to try to end this problem once and for all. Any takers?
24. Whoa! Wait a minute!
Sheikh yer Bu'Tay ,   Dar al-Harb   (10.07.06)
I thought Assad claimed peace was only six months away??!
25. Marcel #5..
Lynne   (10.07.06)
you make God sound evil.. what kind of peace can we ever have with ISrael if they believe that they should kill all who come in the way of their promised land??.. if God had wanted a party of people killed He wouldn't have created them in the first place.. God hadn't created us to destroy the Earth he had given us.. he created us to build it.. if peace endangers Israel then something is definitely wrong with Israel..
26. Assad and Foley
Simon ,   London GB   (10.08.06)
I thought the people in the North of England ate tripe not spoke it. Yes Assad keeps making noises about war to get the Golan back. If I remember rightly he suggested that Israel either gives back the Golan or he will take it by force within 6 months. Foley NO ONE WANTS WAR. not even us Evil Jews. However Assad has a real problem he is not as good as his late father at keeping his people down. More over he couldn't get away with the large scale massacres of his own people such as Hama that his farther was guilty of. All in all he has to come up with something to bolster is weak leadership.
27. Lynne #25
Anna ,   Canada   (10.08.06)
Sure Assad doesn’t sleep well: the sale of the Holan heights land to the members of Ba’ath party is going slow. By the way, Lynne, I didn’t hear Israel was threatening Syria. The unrest comes only from the Assad’s side. And what kind of peace are you seeking by claming that Israelis are killing everyone who is on their way to Promised Land? Why are you staying on their way anyway? Israelis already on their land?!
28. #25lynne

29. root of the problem
timmartin ,   colombo   (10.08.06)
root of the problem is avarice.avarice of the zionists. that is the problem. problem not only in mddle east but almost every whre else
30. Occupation is the Root of Problem
walldizo ,   damas   (10.08.06)
The roots of the problem lays in Israel's unabated greed for land and more land.Such policy if allowed to persist, would jeoperdize the whole exsistant of Israel.War is not a case to be taken lightly, considering the magnitude of both human and material loses which may devastate the whole region.Assad's referrance to war is a reflection of Syria's despair in regaining the Golan peacefully. Its a rather serious note to this effect. So,we wish to avoid Iran's pretext,a rhetoric used by Zionists, to condone their continued occupation of Arab land. Its a thoughtful statement by Assad for the Israeli government to consider.Peace is a desired channel, through which Syria should regain its territories, but if this proven ineffective in securing Syria's right , then war would be the proper remedy for Israeli greed.
