I saw a you tube clip about this woman earlier, but wasn't able to find out the content of the interview. From what I had heard, the interview was more a ambush and scream fest by the moderator who tried to intimidate her into silence. We need more brave people who won't be silenced or intimidated. If someone could post the site so we all could view the 'interview" as it aired so we could see the moderators reactions and over all general tenor of the interview I'd appreciate it

She's making it look as if she defected from communist Soviet Union to the West. Dreaming of toppling the "evil religion"? I know that islamists in Syria are constantly prosecuted. If you have a large beard for instance, you could be interrogated and hassled for hours at Damascus Airport. So I don't understand what she is talking about when she says she's been abused by islamic society in Syria for over 30 years. Maybe she had an abusive family.. The issues about Islam are often debated in Lebanon. The issues of reforming Islam are constantly heard, and I haven't seen threat on anyone's life. Wafa has some points, but none are new. Unfortunately her message, which may have valid points, is exploited by the far right wing who constantly aim at demonizing Islam. So I am not sure Wafa, what your objectives are? There are others like you asking for reformation of Islam, with clear proposals. Yet they don't get the same publicity, maybe because their rethoric is not based on hatred and anti-islam slogans. Maybe because they show that you can be a reformist, and yet not be wanted dead or alive. So in short, Wafa you are not a reformist. Other than your anti Islam chants, I see no valuable message. Your message is simply being exploited and mediatised because you make the point of certain radical political movements, who couldn't care less about reforming Islam. As to learning from Israelis, yes, but what? Learning how to oppress those of other religions than yours?

1. You say Islam is being attacked by the right wing. Placing Islam as left wing? Doesn't this seem discordant with the treatment of women in most Muslim countries and the fact that most Muslim countries are not democracies? 2. You claim there is no religious freedom in Israel? Firstly, Arab men are allowed to vote in Israel, unlike in many Muslim dictatorships. Secondly, mosques are not destroyed or targeted (even in the territories) and people are allowed to attend without restriction, even though the pulpits are used for anti-Israeli incitement in many places, including inside Israel. Thirdly, under Israeli rule, all three religions live and practice freely in Jerusalem, which was not the case when the city was in the hands of other religions.

1. Thanks for your remarks. Am not sure if it is "Far right wing" not "right wing as you mentioned"). I may be wrong. There is however a growing curent in the US who aims at demonizing Islam. They also tend to have particular political affiliations. Check jihadwatch.com and frontpage magazine for a feel. Whether "leftist" values are discordant with Islam, I don't think it is due to the essence of what you call left, or that it discords with Islam exclusively. If you mean Communism, it is discordant with all religions. As to women, yes 100%. These are some of the things that should be definitely reformed. But these are deeply ingrained cultural issues, not just religious. For instance, many Moslem families are secular, yet the women is still not as independent as she should be, even in this segment of society. 2. a. Yes, I agree. There is religious freedom in Israel. However non Jews, previously living in the land of Palestine/Israel do not have the right of return to Israel, as opposed to jews from the ex Soviet Union. To me, this make the "Religious Freedom" you mention somewhat fake. b. I believe that Saudi Arabia is the country where only Islam is allowed as religion. In all other countries, you can definitely vote irrespective of your religion. c. Under Islam, except for few historical instances, three religions were allowed to practice in "Relative" peace. This could not be said about the Catholic Church in relation to Jews. But to wrap all up, yes, the practice of islam should and must be reformed. But not the Wafa Sultan way...
