1. It's not all or nothing
Amy ,   Rekhovot   (10.13.06)
Maybe as a new olah I still don't understand the Israeli take on religious vs. secular, but the writer here just doesn't get it (as I see it). It's not "they're secular, how could they direct this?" or "you grew up religious, now you're secular," as if they're totally autonomous states of being. Judaism is *not* an all or nothing deal. And does a "secular" person have to be entirely, also? What if someone is "secular" but makes kiddush Friday night before going out to the movies? Secular isn't all or nothing, either. Or maybe it's clearer to say that it *shouldn't* be all or nothing. Because Jews are Jews, whether they choose to live with Torah or not. And we're *all* learning.
2. from one kind of secular to another!
yehuda ,   new york usa   (10.13.06)
She did not move between two worlds. She moved between the conservative rejection of the Torah, to the secular rejection of the Torah. She never had any exposure to real, authentic judaism and diito for her sister studying to be a reform "rabbi" The media can play all sorts of word games, and try to call various secular, non Torah judaism, "religious" But almost everyone knows, that authentic Judaism, for 3500 years, represents a revalation, first to Avrahom, Yitzchok and Yaacov, then the Masora to Moshe Rabbenu, both written and oral, later the rest of the Tanach which just explained, Moshe's revelation, as did the oral law, also given to Moshe on Har Sinai, later recorded in the Misnah, Talmud, and their teachers, including Savraim, Gaonim, Rishonim, and Achroronim, summerized in the Shulhan Arurch and it's commentators. This woman, has never observed any of the above, nor did her conservative, and reform family. It's a shame that media like the Ynet, doesn't realize that one form of secularism, is similar to other forms, but they are NOT traditonal Judaism!
3. JEWS ARE JEWS WHEREVER THEY LIVE ! ! ! !
AVINU   (10.13.06)
__ THANK YOU G-D ! ! ! _______ FOR CREATING ME A JEW ______ FOR TEACHING ME YOURS LAWS _ I WILL DO ALL WHAT I CAN TO BE WORTHY OF BEING A JEW .
4. You don't have to be religious to be Jewish
Karen R ,   USA   (10.13.06)
Since when is being religous a requirement for being interested in things Jewish? Growing up I knew many people who had left religion - or whose parents had - and yet they were proud Jews who knew the tradition and culture. It is true that without religion it is hard to pass this on to the next generation, who wonder why they should bother with it, but being Jewish is a cultural heritage as well as a religious one.
5. JUDAISM---A RELIGION?
al mann ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.13.06)
Where in Jewish sources is Judaism defined as a religion? Religion was a term foisted upon us by Moslems and Christians et.al. to deny us a land. The truth is that in our sources Judaism is comprised of a "constitution" which makes us a nation as is written in many prophetic sources. A nation, in order to maintain its identity needs a land like we had in Biblical times. Even now Jews seem to be more an ethnic group rather than a people with a legitimate TORAH, whose validity many people deny. In our modern era, it is more convenient to deny the burden of responsibility for upholding the TORAH. If people are in denial, do they keep their citizenship?
6. It sounds like genuine emotional moments
mike ,   Chicago, USA   (10.13.06)
It sure is better than the sexual stimulation frequently passed off as emotions. These genuine moments should be celebrated and though about because we can all grow from witnessing. Thank You
7. A Lot of Charta About Nothin!

8. Fear of man is a snare
marilyn   (10.13.06)
'God makes man simple and man complicates things' Absolutely true. It is quite simple really. the Israel of God is a nation that has entered into a covenant to obey Gods Laws, in other words to do his will, not our own. Jesus showed us the Law is Holy and righteous, and the trouble was not the Law, but mans inability to obey it. Hence the new covenant where on the grounds of faith, in the anointed of God, we learn to have the Law written within our hearts and minds, Love is the Laws fulfillment, and is always more concerned for the welfare of others. If you don't fulfill the Law, doesn't matter what you call yourself ,because you will be in trouble with God.and you won't succed in the long term.Because a true Jew is one whose circumcism is inward on the heart.
9. Fight for the land
Ben Temalion ,   Shiloh, MO USA   (10.13.06)

10. what is true belief
chaim ,   miami beach usa   (10.13.06)
Humans in an effort to elevate themselves from all other life forms, proclaim they are also endowed by and in possession of a “Spiritual Soul”, the Spiritual Soul comes from where, where can they be found upon their removal from the physical element where it formerly resided, since once gone it is irretrievable, it can never be returned to the original physical element. To try and answer that question, mankind has found the basis to such phenomenon can be addressed only in the world of religious beliefs. Mankind throughout the entire world from the depths of the Amazonian or African Jungles the tribes small and large, accepted or enlightened major religions have either created or extrapolated from their religious historical values, in Hebrew it is called Mesora which translates into oral transmitting of the law or from subsequent writings of latter generations of the special rituals that are required to the adherences of such beliefs. Then what does become the most important issue ascribed to religion, does it lie in the performance of a particular ritualism, or is it in a basic acknowledgement of our existence that it is spiritual, which comes from a special unassailable element we call GOD. The knowledge of understanding the hidden meanings of a belief in GOD is a basic requirment for a person to considering himself religious. By that he may come to understand the true meaning of Life, Spirituality, Saintliness and true devotion to God who will forgive all sins and if it be his will, will answer their prayers whether they pray for themselves or for others. To a true believer, there is but one GOD but to benefit from his goodness such is not ascribable to any particular required ceremony, as being the only method to serve GOD nor can it be restricted to any Group, nor is it invested into any individual, it is available worldwide it is a knowledge within reach of each individual person to ascertain and understand the true spiritual element that is part and parcel of the human soul. To obtain such understanding in itself elevates the Human Soul to a level that transcends all physical matters that misleads and misdirects the human conduct driven by his desires.
