she'd like to be with arab-speakers who actually understand it is a good thing to be here.
2. Support Jews & Druze! DON'T SURRENDER the GOLAN!
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (10.16.06)
Druze: “Our greatest fear,” says N., “is that Israel will abandon us the way it abandoned the South Lebanese Army soldiers.” What a disgrace for Israel's leaders that Israel's allies are betrayed and terrorist murderers are rewarded with Jewish land and assets.
3. Majority of Golan population are Zionists
Adam ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.16.06)
4. Steinitz Dire WARNING: "WE COULD LOSE the NEXT WAR"
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (10.16.06)
Protect Jews and patriotic, loyal Druze! Why should Israeli leaders earn the unsavory, worldwide reputation that Israel betrays her very best allies and rewards her implacable enemies with Jewish land and assets? Does Israel want to be left without a single ally? The strategic high ground of the Golan is vital to Israel's defense and must NEVER be surrendered! Global jihadists eagerly anticipate surrender of militarily strategic, Biblical Judea and Samaria for Global Islamic Terror State Two that will reduce tiny Israel to indefensible 6-10 miles wide Auschwitz borders - the goal of the U.S. EU UN and Russia. We could lose the next war By Ari Shavit Haaretz (Magazine section) 21 April 2006 Yuval Steinitz has two red rags: the Egyptian army and the Israel Air Force. ...Israel's dimensions are tiny and its borders are impossible... In the era of precision weapons the importance of territory does not decrease but increase...And Israel has almost no territory. Israel has no strategic depth. That is an Achilles heel that is liable to put its very existence at risk." All our airfields and our air control units and the power stations and the sensitive strategic sites are within a few dozen kilometers of the border. As such, they are vulnerable to surface-to-surface missiles and to long-range rockets, which are liable to knock them out of action and paralyze the Israel Air Force. ...we are liable to lose in a war." ...a vast army is being built in Egypt. Egypt faces no threats...but is investing billions in creating an army... The size of the Egyptian Air Force is about the same as that of the Israel Air Force, but the number of tanks, artillery pieces, boats and missile batteries is exponentially greater than ours. The Egyptian army is far larger than the IDF. "Since the mid-1990s, Egyptian doctrine, Egyptian indoctrination and Egyptian training exercises have been directed against Israel. Since the start of this century Egypt has also invested billions in relocating its military infrastructures so they are opposite Israel. Initially its surface-to-surface missiles were scattered across Egypt, whereas now they are massed against us in the Suez Canal region... http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/707577.html
5. No need for the Druze to worry
Arie ,   Afula   (10.16.06)
the Golan will never be anything but Israeli and they are welcome to stay
6. we need to keep the Golan.
johanna ,   tsfat   (10.16.06)
this country is not a cake that everyone can take a slice until there is no country left... apart from maybe the "tel aviv bubble". even that will be eaten in the end. wake up people, speak up now before it is too late.
7. our Druze
jewish ,   israel   (10.16.06)
Israel cannot afford to betray any more of her aliies. We must stand by them as they have stood by us. We have a blood bond. We must honour it.
8. Good luck Avni
Monder ,   Canada   (10.16.06)
Wish you the best in your new position Avni
9. Ill considered talk and fear of abandonment
Raymond from DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (10.16.06)
Despite this being the "age of missiles", strategic depth still matters. Only those of the post-Zionist persuasion, ashamed of being Jews or Israelis, ashamed of .having defeated their neighbors, would consider turning this territory over to Syria. Where else in the world would one find a country, after capturing strategic territory in response to another country's aggression, giving it back for.... what, a piece of paper? Israel's current leadership should consider Moshe Sharon's advice ("Negotiating in the bazaar" in the Jerusalem Post of October 16) before they give away the store. Without surrendering even a square meter of the Golan to Syria, the latter would benefit from a true peace with Israel. Israel should internalize this, and work to get her neighbors to accept it. Loose talk of a Golan surrender leads to a fear of abandonment on the part of pro-Zionist Druse, anticipation of yet another triumph over "spider web" Israelis, and a lack of confidence on the part of those Israelis ready to further develop the Golan.
10. Golan
Simon ,   C.T, South Africa   (10.16.06)
The Golan is part of Isael forever !
11. the druze are smart and know they have it good
jerome ,   basalt, co   (10.16.06)
and should talk of annexing the rest of Syria for the Druze, instead of even thinking of Syria taking the Golan. The Druze would treat the Arabs in Syria better than the idiot with the stupid mustache and would have real peace with Israel.
12. WHICH PEACE ? ! WITH THE TERRORIST REGIME IN SYRIA ? NEVER
(10.16.06)
13. Giving Up The Golan Akin To National Suicide
Adina kutnicki ,   US   (10.16.06)
As much as I feel that the Druze who help Israel must be protected, the tragic truth of the matter is this - if Israel's leaders would be so insane to give up the Golan, they might as well kiss the entire country goodbye. Between giving up Gaza, giving up major control of Judea & Samaria, Hizbullah on its north, and then giving back the Golan, Israel's national security would be a pincer-like vise grip that would choke her in no time. Them's the facts.
14. Give the druze what ever they want !
Dan ,   Israel   (10.16.06)
They are true Israeli citizens, they do their share in protecting the country and they are amazingly friendly and should be hounor citizens ! They are our true friends ! Unlike other arabs they are friendly, pay taxed and fight fot their home (They go to the army) not to talk about the fact that they pay for their electricity and water, unlike 90% of the Arabs who do not pay for anything they get. Viva the Druze. BTW, I am a Jew...
15. cowardly, foolish gov't betrays Israel's friends (end)
dante ,   uk   (10.16.06)
16. Israel should publicly commit ...
Zvi ,   USA   (10.16.06)
... to a program to protect and resettle these families if (though such an event seems decades or centuries away) it ever determines that Syria is truly interested in peace. These are loyal non-Jewish Israeli citizens. Their loyalty must NOT be thrown in their faces, for the very practical reason that this would discourage other non-Jewish Israeli citizens who want to be loyal. The commitment must be offered up front, and no renegging should be countenanced, because this way, the pro-Zionist Druze will know they have a safe haven (Israel) at their backs, vs. being thrown away (which would likely encourage desperate attempts to regain Syrian approval). The Gush Katif resettlement program was not much of a model. One hopes Israel has learned from the experience and could do a better job if it had to resettle these guys. But again -- Israel should state when it announces this safety net that Syria does not appear to be serious about peace, and Israel is perfectly happy to hold on to the Golan until someone in Damascus really DOES become serious about making peace with Israel.
17. Even Arabs don't want to live under Arab rule.
Daisy ,   USA   (10.16.06)
18. Druze are honorable
Scott ,   Haifa   (10.16.06)
We owe them much. I hope and pray our government doesn't act as wrongly against them as they did our own people.
19. Adina #13 is right
Besalel ,   Kew Gardens, NY   (10.17.06)
We learned from our actions in Gaza and Lebanon that the air force alone cannot ensure our security. Maintaining stategic real estate is as important in 2007 as it was in 1967.
20. why doesn't Israel conduct an anonymous survey among GH popu
(10.17.06)
population to see if they want to be under Syria or not? How can you call it occupied if say, the majority of its population doesn't consider it self occupied and wants to stay under Israel? check it to see. Ofcourse I would ask everybody: Jews and non Jews, but Israel is confused and adopts the world hypocrisy over it, then you might ask only the Druse... still, you should ask, you know, because they are just afraid of Syria, but they don't want to be Syrian again.
21. protect them
dave ,   herzliya   (10.17.06)
Do not abandon these people!
22. After over 30 years
Tunisian   (10.17.06)
You still find people saying: “Who needs this citizenship? It only causes us problems.” Good luck spinning this one around.
23. ANGRY CANADIAN DRUZE
DRUZE GUY ,   TORONTO, CANADA   (10.17.06)
If the Jewish state adandons the Druze of the Golan and makes a land deal that doesnt take into acount the local Druze interests and implications, this will have local and global shock waves in the Druze community, it will damage Druze & jewish relations. Hopefully the Israelis dont make such a foolish mistake. What risks do the Druze face? Economic implications? Political representation in Syria? etc etc etc
24. Why do leftists want to give away the Golan?
Lemmings Hotline ,   LJ USA   (10.17.06)
Why would they give away Israeli strategic protection from ALL EASTERN ENEMIES? Why would they put the entire country's water supplies at risk of being diverted away from the country? Why would they rely on Syrian peace deal which could turn cold, or worse turn into oppressive peace from Syria like Lebanese Peace? Its only to win the Nobel Peace Prize! Only so they can walk proud at the UN without having their Arab brothers spit at them. Its only so they can exact revenge against their Jewish brothers, who dont support them, nor ever will buy into their leftist philosophy. If their experiment fails, and the country falls, they'll just move itno their vacation home in Washington DC and pursue another political career amongst all their new lovers. All this while having caused another slaughter and exile
25. #23 Good to hear that you still can get angry after all.
Tunisan   (10.17.06)
26. Golan
A. Levy ,   Miami, USA   (10.17.06)
When will the Israeli Goverment and the USA learn that military force will never win. I am a proud Jew, but also hace seen and lived on the other side. We are creating more terrorists and hate, avery time we kill innocent people, their children will take up arms and grow up with hate, starting another cycle of violence. It's time to sit down with your enemy and TALK on even terms.
27. #23 Israel should not give the Golan to Baathist Syria
Zvi ,   USA   (10.17.06)
The only conditions under which the Golan should be returned to Syria would be if Syria became truly trustworthy -- which will never happen so long as the Baath remains in control there. Israel must support her Druze citizens strongly, and Israel must survive in a dangerous region, for the sake of ALL of its citizens.
28. #26 A.Levy..
Lynne   (10.17.06)
thank you... I think you represent the realistic, good Jews I we are looking for in this corruption.. who are able to understand that religion should NOT cause violence.. quite the contrary... religion is to control the evil side of us and make us better...
