Military service should be abolished, it should be offered like a well paid job with living quarters and a pension, then you will see people from all backgrounds and religions flocking to enrol, forcing people to do military service has never been a good way to recruit, their hearts are not in it.

It was a mistake from the founding of the state to exempt Arabs from military service of some kind, an exemption unique in the world and one which sends the completely wrong message--being as it is a tacit acceptance of disloyalty to their own country. The argument that Arabs never shoot at Arabs is self evidently false--look at Gaza every day. Look at Iraq where Arabs come from all over the world to murder Arab Muslim unarmed civilians. With equal rights come equal responsibilities and a citizen of any state has a duty to defend it or support it. How can Arabs ever be truly integrated into Israeli society under such an exemption. It is bad for everyone.

In WWII, there were separate "negro" units, which proved their heroism and over a matter of time, their sacrifices for their country helped the larger population be more receptive to the Civil Rights Movement that arose 2 decades later. And these soldiers made their sacrifices without first asking for the same seats on the bus, the right to eat where they wanted, to attend schools with others who were of the majority population. They made their sacrifice first, and their children reaped the benefits. In Israel, Arabs and their elected leaders consistently and loudly abuse the fact that considering how hostile they are, Israelis are actually abnormally tolerant. There aren't separate restaurants, bus seats, schools, etc. Our Knesset has Arab representatives, whereas there were no black representatives during WWII, even though they were a larger population percentage wise of the US than Arabs are in Israel. I think that many Arab Israelis, and many who gratuitously like to give ethics speeches to us, are way, way off target here. I say to the Arab Israelis, behave as though you want to be part of this nation, or prepare to part with it. You can't expect us to treat you as one of us when you consistently and loudly and aggressively and obnoxiously despise everything we aspire to, and that includes our anthem, our flag, our public service and the sovereingty of the Jewish people on its ancient Lands.

Simply revoke the citizenship rights of people who claim exemption from citizenship duties on the basis of their ethnicity. All Israelis need to do national service. Israeli Arabs complain they're treated like "lower class citizens" when what they're really complaining about is being expected to have equal responsibilities.

Arabs should not be recruited to serve in the IDF. But, they should be required to serve Israel in community service positions for a period equal to that which is served by other citizens in the IDF. It is not fair that they should not be required to contribute to Israel as do other citizens. The same rules should be applied to members of the Heredi Community. The Heredi men should serve in the IDF and the women in the IDF or community service according to the same requirements of other Jewish citizens.
