As one who has lived in the US my whole life, who attended a very diverse public school where people of light skin were in the minority, who has friends of nearly all ethnic backgrounds and has met several hundred people who are from other nations studying in America, I can tell you that America is far from the most racist society in the world. Unlike Lebanon(which I am aware has absorbed Armenian immigrants among other groups), the USA is an nation constantly taking in immigrants from every country and continent. Even the rural South and West, usually areas of high "white" homogeniety are now big destinations for new immigrants. Racism may exist in certain bigoted Americans minds but it is unnacceptable in the public sphere, in goverment, in entertainment, and general American society. Why have their been black Secrataries of State, black and Latino mayors of big cities (LA, NYC, Chicago), Asian governor (Washington state), awareness months for different cultures, voting in different languages, absolute freedom of worship and expression (yes even Holocaust denial). Fadi, I dare you to try and take a population census of your country (last successfully administered in 1932) and then tell me about racism, sectarianism. Where are your African immigrants, your Chinese-Lebanese politicians, Indian-Lebanese businessmen and women, and cooperation and coexistent nonprofits in Lebanon? Why should US taxpayers send billions to Israel every year if Israel is going to turn around and bar them--full US citizens--from visiting their relatives in the West Bank/Gaza. They have every right to be here--the same right as American Jews have to visit their relatives here.
