1. It is time
Brod ,   USA   (10.22.06)
It is time they do it. It is just common sense.
2. Will emperor George give you permission ?
Marcel ,   Florida   (10.22.06)
How stupid to let an amoral foreign power tell you to leave in the first palce. You puppets and spineless wimps continue to follow the suicidal path the false peace Road Map has put Israel on. You reveal your stupidity, confusion and ineptitude by going back. You shouls have never listened to the presidents secretary Rice to leave in the first place. ISRAEL, Your leaders are stuupid and pathetic.
3. Total nonsense!
Michael Steiner   (10.22.06)
That would make Israel AGAIN responsible for the Palestinians' borders, just when we'd managed to get ourselves rid of them at least in Aza. Besides, what kind of logic is that: control Philadeplphi to prevent smuggling into Aza. According to the same logic, Israel should capture the Syria-Lebanon border to prevent smuggling of Katyushot into Lebanon! I see logic is not mar Yishai's forte. He and his ilk need to stop with the kneejerk reactions, which lead all of Israel to doom.

David ,   Tel Aviv   (10.22.06)
Of course recapturing the Philadelphia route is a step backwards in Israel's attempt to disengage from the Palestinian occupation. However , the developing security situation in Aza necessitates a decisive engagement and curtailing of the enemy. If you have been keeping up with current events you know that the Arabs(Hamas) in Aza have signed treaties with Hizbulla(Iran). The warlike rhetoric emananting from the enemy is not mere hype. They are arming themselves for the next round of fighting. If Israel does not stem the flow of arms to Aza immediately the result will be catastrophic in the near future. I feel your logic is very awry if you believe that any soverign nation does not have the right to stop arms from reaching an enemy entity who continues to fire rockets into her territory. It is leftist propagandists like yourself who have brought us to the position we are presenly in.
5. Take back the Philadelphi Corridor... obvious
Bennie ,   Jerusalem   (10.22.06)
Israel has to take back the Philadelphi Corridor. This is obvious. So what is the problem that the Olmert/Peretz/ Livni government can't take the actions necessary to protect Israel? The 3 Stooges are again paralysed and demonstrating total incompetence.
6. #3 David
Yisraeli ,   TA IL   (10.22.06)
hm, you didn't address Michael's main point. If Israel recaptures the Philadelphi route then surely following that logic it should station itself on the Syria Lebanon border also.
7. olmert and peretz have proven they don't have beitzim
Arie ,   Afula   (10.22.06)
We need new leadership AND NOW. While the 3 stooges are more concerned about maintaining their positions, Israelis are being threatened by the terrrists known as the PA and lebanon

No, Israel shouldn't capture the Syria-Lebanon border following that logic. The war in Lebanon ended with the formation of the new and improved UNIFIL, that promises to fight against weapon smugglers coming from Syria. There is no such force in Gaza, and no current cease-fire. Seeing as the Philadelphi route is so small, it may even be practical.
9. funny
hanzalah naji ali ,   al-shajara   (10.22.06)
Israel was in gaza, philidelphia route was under control of israel, during that time tunnels discovered everyday, palestinian also at that time succeed to enter weapons to gaza, so what u will gain if u recapture it, its really dummy idea, look for real peace, so u will gain security, and u will find money to improve your economy.
10. Yeah, but at which cost?
David L.   (10.22.06)
Israel discovered 7 tunnels last week. Why do you think Hamas let them approach and destroy these tunnels without even putting up a fight? Obviously, that's because they have dozens more tunnels with their entrance dug under densely populated neighborhoods in Rafah itself. If Israel wants to destroy these tunnels, a lot of blood will flow. And even if they succeed, the only way they really have to prevent digging of new tunnels is to permanantly occupy the zone. This is inevitably going to lead to a dead-end, in which IDF soldiers will be subjected to daily attack and will not be able, in the long term, to really control the situation - and that is exactly what happened from 2000 to the Gaza disengagement. Even after countless operations in Rafah, the destroying of hundreds of private houses, the killing of over 400 Palestinians and the loss of 30 soldiers, weapon smuggling continued. The bottom line is that Israel has to consider other options, because as appealing as the military solution is, it can't work.
11. 3 - we've been/always will be responsible for gaza's border
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (10.22.06)
any two countries are responsible for the borders they share, which is why the northern and western border between gaza and israel is policed by israel. theoretically gaza should be doing the same, but they are not, which is why israel has indirect interest and responsibility to police gaza's other borders because what goes into gaza comes into israel. since there are no tunnels in lebanon/syria border, israel is flying over to police that border for the same reason, since no one is implementing that part of 1701. it has everything to do with israel's sovereignty. so, since the pals turn a blind eye at best, and egypt does only the bare minimum on the remaining border, what's the big deal in making the effort? you are arguing that pleasing the europeans is the highest good here, which is wrong and indefensible.
12. WE SHOULDN'T OF EVER GIVEN IT UP DIG TRENCH FULL OF WATER
DAVID P ,   SANTA CRUZ, USA   (10.22.06)
OF ALL THE MOVES ISRAEL HAS MADE OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS, GIVING UP THE PHILIDELPHI ROUTE IN MY OPINION HAS BEEN THE MOST DEVASTATING TO ITS SECURITY. THIS STRATEGIC AND ESSENTIAL STRIP OF LAND MUST BE TRANSFORMED INTO A PERMINENT BARRIER. CREATING A CANAL TO CHANAL WASTE ALONG THE SOUTHERN RIM OF GAZA WHILE ACTING AS AN OBSTICLE FOR SMUGGLING SHOULD BE PUT INTO PLACE.
13. 9 - define what you mean by "real peace"
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (10.22.06)
if it is different that what hamas et al define it as, your definition does not exist among any of the palestinian factions in power and, therefore, irrelevant. if you DO mean what hamas describes as the way to peace, forget it. you are asking for surrender and death, which isn't going to happen.
14. #3 ARABS ARE PREPARING FOR WAR TO KILL JEWS DON'T YOU SEE
DAVID P ,   SANTA CRUZ, USA   (10.22.06)
WE MUST RETAKE THE PHILADELPHI TO STEM THE FLOW OF ARMS FOR THE COMMING WAR. PLEASE RECOGNIZE THE STRATEGIC THREAT IT POSES IS NOT THE SAME AS THE ONE IN THE NORTH. WHILE SYRIA SUPLLIES HEZBOLLAH, THEY ARE RESTRAINED SOMEWHAT BY THE SO CALLED SOVEIRGN NATION OF LEBANON. THE ARABS IN GAZA PRACTICE NO RESTRAINT, SHOW NO MERCY AND ANSWER TO NO ONE BUT THEIR TERROR LEADERS WHO ARE FULLY EMBARKED ON A MISSION TO GATHER AS MUCH WEAPONS AS POSSIBLE TO MURDER ISRAELIS/JEWS. I DON' TKNOW IF YOU'VE CHECKED OUR NUMBERS LATELY BUT WE CAN'T AFFORD TO LOOSE MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY TO YET ANOTHER SLAUGHTER, SO WE MUST ACT TO ENSURE OUR SAFETY, SECURITY AND SURVIVAL, I HOPE YOU GET ON BOARD.
15. Don't recapture
Arie ,   Afula   (10.22.06)
Let the IDF make the entire area - above and below ground - uninhabitable and unusable.
16. take back north gaza 1 yard @ a time
jerome ,   basalt, co   (10.22.06)
instead of re-taking Gaza-Eygpt border, every rocket they fire into Israel take back one yard into the north Gaza. I think the fools might get the message(probably not)
17. Final solution to the Jewish problem
Eliezer ,   Brooklyn, USA   (10.22.06)
When all the muslims who think that Jews are a problem are liquidated, there will no longer be a Jewish problem. If that requires wiping out 99% of world's muslim population, then so be it. With each passing day they are making it more evident that this is the only way to achieve peace and make flying safe again.

*** If that requires wiping out 99% of world's muslim population, then so be it*** Well said, Mr. GOEBBELS!!!
19. Shimon Peres
Ellen J. Singer ,   Westchester, NY, USA   (10.23.06)
Will Shimon Peres ever be persuaded to put his ego and socialist illusions to rest?
