3. LONG Overdue: The ONLY Road To Peace
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (10.23.06)
"The Way We Live Now: Israel Proves There Is A Military Solution To Terrorism" (October 17, 2004) …Anyone who visits Jerusalem today will not see the ghost town it was in 2002, when Israel was absorbing an average of one suicide bombing a week. … How did things improve so dramatically, and so quickly, for Palestinians and Israelis alike? Begin by recalling Israel's assassination, in late March, of Hamas spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin. At the time, the action was all but universally condemned as reckless and counterproductive. "By granting Yassin the martyrdom he craved, the Israelis have provided a motive for new suicide attacks," went an editorial in the normally pro-Israel Daily Telegraph of London. "More young Palestinians will fall in love with death, and more Israeli civilians will die with them." Yet what followed for Israel were nearly six consecutive terror-free months. This wasn't because the Palestinian terror groups lacked for motivation to carry out attacks. It was because they lacked for means. The leaders of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and Yasser Arafat's own al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades had to spend their time figuring out how to survive, not on planning fresh attacks. The Israeli army incarcerated terror suspects in record numbers--some 6,000 now sit in Israeli prisons--which in turn helped yield information for future arrests. Most importantly, the security fence has begun to make the Israeli heartland nearly impenetrable to Palestinian infiltrators. (August's double suicide bombing in Beersheba happened precisely because there is still no security fence separating that town from the Palestinian city of Hebron, from where the bombers were dispatched.) Taken together, these measures prove what a legion of diplomats, pundits and reporters have striven to deny: that there is a military solution to the conflict. http://www.opinionjournal.com/editorial/feature.html?id=110005768

it does no good to grab a snake by its tail. explosives and missiles and terrorists can be replaced too easily, and the plo has plenty of resources to replace them with. if you don't strike at the head of the snake, you will only get bitten.
5. Israel Gave Land on Temp basis for Peace
Bill ,   Haifa, Israel   (10.23.06)
The Arabs took the land but instead of peace choose to take the remainder of Israel. The Arabs can expect no more than losing what was loaned to them because of their Satanic Islamic belief. The Arabs should be given 24 hours to pack their rags and move ut of Israel.
6. So much for disengaging!
chanan ,   usa   (10.23.06)
House to house searches in the entire Gaza strip is absolutely necessary, anything else will be in vain. The Egyptians/Mubarak must be dealt with too because of their solidarity with the violent Arabs and complicity in the arms smuggling. Do not listen to Ben-Yishai, his ideas are not going to eliminate the Arab criminals and their murderous intentions.
7. Killing Fields
Steven ,   NY   (10.23.06)
IDF will do what it knows best, kill Palestinians. It will solve nothing, may be they will get their ass kicked. Hizbollah did it already why not again by the Hamasasses
8. The generals are totlly crazy
Adam Keller ,   Holon , Israel   (10.23.06)
These gnerals are totally crazy. We should sack Halutz and the wholeGeneral staff. What we need are not plans for crazy attacks but making a cease-fire with the palestinians, getting back Gilad shalit in return for freeing Palestinian prisoners, and starting peace talks.
9. Hope Olmert Plugs Leaks
Jeff ,   Cherry Hill, NJ USA   (10.24.06)
Too much information about cabinet decisions was reported during the Hezbollah campaign. Too much bluster from politicians about wacky strategic goals like -- we will destroy them (sounds like Ahmedinijhad). Loose lips sink ships, literally. FOCUS ON WHY SHALIT GOLDWASSER AND REGEV ARE STILL CAPTIVE!!

A few questions: Have you ever served in the army? Have you seen a suicide bomber? Have you seen innocent men, women and children blown up infront of your eyes?? We have tried ceasefires and they are only used by the Pals to rearm. If we free more then a few pal prisoners for Shalit then they will kidnap more soldiers next week and try again. They call for our destruction. We give then control of their cities, they use this control and the arms which we give their police to attack us. We give them Gaza with a border and kick thousands of jews out of their homes and they turn it into the biggest terrorist camp in the world. We free thousands of prisoners mostly in good will and 15% turn around and attack us again. They teach their children that we were never here in history and that we are animals. Name one thing the Palestinians have done for peace??? I have not yet got a real answer from anyone on these talkbacks try helping.
11. Blah blah blah...
Richard Silverstein ,   Seattle, USA   (10.24.06)
More of the same old, same old from the IDF & its journalistic flacks. This amounts to: let's try in Gaza a modified version of what didn't work in Lebanon. It's simply attempting to replace military force with the only real weapon that will resolve the conflict & end the Palestinian violence which you're trying to prevent: negotiation. The prescriptions offered in this article are half measures & ultimately doomed to fail.
