1. Very smart Olmert
Steve ,   USA   (10.23.06)
B"H This Lieberman MK is getting Olmert a lot of miliage. He stabalizes the coalition with this presidential system that ensures Olmert stays in office for a full term. And he is now covering for any perceived strategic failures of Peretz. Swell move. I doubt Labor can block it at this point because of its value to the coalition and State. What, Labor wants new elections to face the electorate's wrath over Peretz's "winning" of the war? Shas is working on the issue but not getting worked up over it. That is very calming to the voter. Count more votes for Shas then. If Labor drops, and Katsav resigns, who assigns the new coalition? I wonder if this is really the week to file a weak indictment against Katsav to attempt to force Katsav's resignation. Who else is going to have the legitimacy do his work if Labor bolts the coalition? You think Shimon Peres can fill his shoes so quickly without an actual trial and no convincing indictment filed, never mind an actual election? And Olmert cannot fire Katsav like Sharon fired Effie, because Katsav is formally the boss and the head of State. I can assure Kadima that the voter has some upside smiles to offer at the voting booth if Kadima destabalizes the situation any further with an indictment, if it is not well grounded. Even a left-wing government has to face political reality at some point. The entry of Lieberman to the goverment substantiates that. Quote: "A minister of strategic affairs is a joke. Lieberman is himself a strategic threat," he said.
2. It won't hurt, you need a man like him.

3. BEWARE THE BEADDY EYES - LIKE A RAT
andrew ,   miami,fl   (10.23.06)
4. He will create a smaller Israel
Mark ,   USA   (10.23.06)
He needs to create a Jewish state. Israel must be 100% Jewish. Give back the Arab triangle and West Bank. A demographic threat is lurking.
5. POLITICS VERSUS LEADERSHIP!!!
al mann ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.23.06)
Citizens are sick of all the political manipulations and machinations happening withing governmental circles all in the name of holding on to a majority in the Knesset. The farce of the democracy is that those in the new government were not elected by the people to be part of it. After the farce is portrayed before intelligent people they can come to the conclusion that politics is a maneuverable activity having nothing to do with leading the people it serves. We need leaders who will encourage and nurture the fine points of being a citizen. The citizen is not getting his money's worth for the salaries tax money pays for governmental officials. Certainly this exercise will not bring any credit to this government, which lacks leadership but knows many empty words and promises.
6. Avigdor Lieberman
(10.23.06)
I imagine his background, having worked as a bouncer in a nightclub, will be very good preparation for dealing with Israeli politics.
7. Mark, Give 'back' the Triangle? To whom?
Jake   (10.23.06)
Excuse me, what exactly do you mean by giving 'back' an area that is part of Israel proper. The Triangle has only ever been under the sovereignty of Israel since Mandate times. Do not speak about giving 'back' a territory that is sovereign Israeli territory. Otherwise, it will be fitting and proper to speak about giving 'back' Tel Aviv as well.
8. Israel's Heider
Ami Kugel ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (10.23.06)
Wer took our amabassador out of Austria because Jorg heider joined the cabinet there. Now we put our own Heider into the government in Jerusalem. Shame!
9. Liberman's priorities !
(10.23.06)
which of which "first" : striking the High Dam, comprehensive war or striking Tehran.
10. #7 , Lieberman wants this idea
mark ,   usa   (10.24.06)
They are Arab cities. Are we a Jewish state or a bi-national state? In Israel, there must be a 100% all Jewish state. Israel is a Jewish state. We do not need Arab towns. Give them to Arabs.
