Far be it from me to accept charity in order to help people, but I'm getting some mixed messages. So far, I see an article which says that converting Jews is still part of the mission of Evangelical Christians (yes, they want to convert everyone, but that doesn't mean that they ignore Jews) and yet the same article says that they know talking about Jesus is insulting so they don't do it. Their flagship supposedly doesn't want to insult, but it flies a banner with an insulting erroneous "name of god" in Hebrew letters. Then I hear that we are not to be replaced in God's eyes (what a relief...God didn't change his mind...for a second I thought the intimation was that he is fallible) but then another poster says that we read our texts wrong and therefore we don't accept god's love and merit eternal death. Then of course we are reminded of that line from John about not getting to God in any other way besides Jesus (doesn't anyone read Romans 11 anymore?) Next I hear that the bible says something about all Jews accepting their messiah (not in any verse I know) and that Christians should be in fear first, no matter what rabbis say. So I'm lost. There seems to be a need to spread the news of the way to avoid hell while not offending those who don't wish to hear about Jesus; there seems to be a notion that we remain the apple of God's eye based on who we are, but are doomed to eternal death because of it; and there seems to be a sense that our texts are right, but we have no idea how to understand them, and our entire tradition of understanding which developed the religion out of which Christianity sprung is all wrong. What's a poor, ignorant farm boy to do? Bottom line -- if all the nice things that the Evangelicals seem to be claiming and promising end up being true, then I'm a happy camper. If any of the negative stuff that is in there ends up being truly representative, then I'm a sad bunny. Maybe, the various sects and groups of Christianity should try to agree on doctrine so that Jews don't lump them all together out of a sense of confusion. At last count (many years ago) there were over 33,000 sects of Christianity. You pick the average Jew and ask him about Christian doctrine and he'll give you a lowest common denominator -- one which, based only on the posts here, is somewhat accurate and troubling. And then let the hilarity ensue.

I cant imagine how you all gave up your jobs, lives and sail all this way to extend your kindness and bring joy to people unknown. G-d bless you all, i dont care if you are christians evangelists or not..if it is in your belieft to share and give to others then to me that is above and beyond everything. We are all so focused on religion in the most negative sense if we could just accept your kindness for what is and not be so cynical then maybe there would be less conflict in the world. when you read the news here at ynet, for example, is it "IMPOSITION AND ARROGANCE AND DISRESPECT"? telling people about what jesus did is giving info and letting them think for themselves. hardly imposing. by the way, how does a christian "convert" someone? i've heard you say that a lot but, as a christian, i am not aware of my ability, much less my religious obligation, to "convert" anything. do you know ANYTHING about the people you so hate? get the facts and think for yourself. for once in your life (if you can).

There's some weird things going on, for example isn't it funny that no one ever realized that Jesus was Jewish before or saw that verse? Or that people get it in their heads that they should give money, etc.? Maybe not a coincidence, maybe orchestrated by G-d.

Now I see someone claim that the "New Testament" is part of the "Hebrew Bible" even though I know it isn't...I see someone splitting hairs between the word "convert" and the "spreding the good news in order to save souls"...I see the repeated claims of Jesus' being a Jewish rabbi when by Jewish standards (now AND then) he wasn't a very good example of a Jew or a rabbi...I see the claim that because other theologies took (poorly) elements of my bible without any concern as to the context and tradition from which it came, I haven't kept it to myself...I see the arrogant view of those who disagree with someone and therefore decide that he doesn't have God in his heart, instead of seeing that by the standards of Judaism, God IS in his heart, and by that pronouncement, there appears an indictment of the entire of Judaism... I see lots more which confuses me, and all the eralier confusion remains. I stumble along blindly, but at least I get a good laugh out of it.
