1. The pope provokes the entire world.
Mark ,   USA   (11.01.06)
He is intentionally being offensive to Jews.
2. It is time for Jews to riot!
Mark ,   USA   (11.01.06)
3. Surprise, surprise
Paul ,   Austin, TX USA   (11.01.06)
What a dated commentary. Of course Ratzinger could have done more to help Jews. I think it's careless and naive that anyone tries to portray ANY pope as a friend of Jews given their (ongoing) legacy of brutality and hatred towards anything non-catholic.
4. Why kid ourselves....
Maria T ,   BC Canada   (11.01.06)
Christianity has from day one endeavored to destroy Jews or at least to make things difficult for us. Yes, we wish they had acted honorably when we needed them, but they didn't and they never will. I still have the image of the pope's warm reception of that murderer Arafat engraved on my memory. Jews are alone. That's reality. And the rest of the world will look after their own interests and indulge in their own prejudices. What's new! It's humiliating sometimes the way we go after their approval, but with things always being so desperate for Jews, there's no alternative.
5. Even now most goyim don't care that Jews are massacred
Uzi ,   Haifa   (11.01.06)
6. The Pope Who kept Mum
Jonathan Levy ,   United States   (11.01.06)
Pius and his successor Paul VI are both under suspicion of aiding and abetting the infamous Nazi ratlines - how does that merit beatification? A US Federal Court case, Alperin v. Vatican Bank, has been pending since 1999 on this very issue. www.vaticanbankclaims.com
7. Pius was more interested in self preservation
(11.01.06)
It is hard to argue that someone who was trying to look out for his own self could have done much to save much anyone else. If he took a stand to save Jews, he probably would have met his own demise (since Hitler already considered him an emeny and had plans to assassinate him). Not to say that justifies anything, but he was more concerned with self preservation and didn't want to push his luck.
8. Christians Care about Jews
David ,   Baltimore, MD USA   (11.01.06)
True Christians do truly care about their Jewish brothers and sisters. Ultimately we know that in the end time all biologically Jewish people will be brought to the saving knowledge of the Messiah Jesus Christ.

11. GENETIC DIFFERENCE : JEWS WOULD NEVER DO AS CHRISTIANS DID !
MOSHE ,   USA   (11.01.06)
IT IS NOT SURPRISING THAT christians ERECT POPE unpius AS A MORAL EXAMPLE. THE christian COMMUNITY EXHIBITS A LOW QUALITY OF ADHERENCE TO THE MORAL & EHTICAL PRICIPLES THAT CIVILIZE THE WORLD.THEY SAY ONE THING & DO ANOTHER. THEY CAN NOT BE TRUSTED. EVEN IF THEY APOLOGISE ONE DAY, THEY WILL KILL US THE NEXT. IT IS christianity "UBER ALLAS". THEY ARE LIKE THE mooslums, IN THAT THEY WANT ONLY christians TO LIVE ON THIS WORLD & ALL OTHERS TO BE LIVING IN THE "NEXT" ONE. IN OTHER WORDS, KILL THE JEWS & CANONIZE THOSE PARTICIPANTS. REMEMBER, IT WAS unpius's JOB TO STOP hitler. his SILENCE WAS HEARD BY 6 MILLION JEWS. MOSHE

YOU should have kept mum instead of talking nonsense and not the truth. Is it Ynet's agenda to attack Catholics every other time ? My father and members of my family have fought to SAVE Jews. What do you do for peace, Ms knowing nothing or bad assimilated, what is worse ? Some things are better unsaid if you do not encompass the vexed question.
15. Just realize this!
Jamal Aboud ,   Ramallah   (11.01.06)
Jews and Muslims lived for hundred of years in peace. Not a Muslim leader ordered to build concerntration camps to kill Jews. Who brought the sword to the word? Was Hilter born in Cairo? It is the time for the Jews to know who is their true freind. Arabs and Jews don't belong to the Western world. We belong to the East.
16. Mum Pope
Bobbert ,   Mechanicsburg USA   (11.01.06)
Why do we always forget. It doesn't matter because we are just jews. Will we never learn? It's supposed to be this way, other wise it wouldn't!
17. MOSHE, USA
Marcel Abel ,   France   (11.01.06)
What have you done to save over 1,000 Lebanese civilians (Many Christians among them) ? May the Lord forgive you your hateful stance against JESUS (YES, Jesus rabbinical power murdered). Nothing new !
18. Caring cristiam 8
noam, jew ,   jerusalem   (11.01.06)
How cristian, wishing for the utimate destruction ( our view of your "saving") of what you "care" for. Cant save me, ha ha. Im not a biological Jew. From Russian Jewish stock, I and many others decended from the Khazars. We, the unredeemed plan to survive the arrival of your dead Messiah.
19. To #8
Maria T ,   BC Canada   (11.01.06)
David, you have no idea how insulting your statement is to Jews. If you have true kindness in your heart, as I'm sure you do, support Jewish Israel, help spread the truth about the the Muslim agenda and their violence against non-Muslims everywhere. Righteous action by Christians is what really counts now, before it's too late.

Ram ,   Central California   (11.01.06)
You forgot about the 4,000 something Jews who were hidden in the Vatican itself to be saved from the holocaust and the 6,000 who were transferred from Bulgaria to Palestine. First of all, you have to realize that if the Pope were take a stance against the Holocaust, that could have provoked Hitler to setting his sites on Catholics and sending them, with the Jews, to the concentration camps as well (shouldn't the sheperd have a right to care for the safety of his flock?). Yes I agree he could have done more than just sit there, but he did try what he could, and everyone could have done more than just him. For the record, Pope Pius is not being canonized for all the things he did not do, but for all good things he DID DO, or even more so for his Faith in Jesus Christ and for God. Remember, before catholics, or even the Pope, or even any christian could become anti-semitic, the Jews were the first to be anti-christian (they had Jesus Christ crucified). No Jew spoke out when he was being nailed to the cross, or even when all those Christians were being slaughtered in the colosseum (because of their faith and their beliefs they were killed). Just realize that everyone could have done something, not just him

22. #18, What Khazars? Do your DNA test.

Then again, may be you're of Khazar stock -- wrong IQ.
23. To David in Baltimore
emily ,   calif   (11.01.06)
I think you meant well, but your comment was not helpful. It is very insulting to Jews when we try to foist our beliefs on them. Ask yourself how you would feel if every time you met a Jew they tried to tell you how misguided you are in your religion. It wouldn't feel good, would it? You especially wouldn't be receptive to that message if Jews had persecuted Christians throughout history, as we Christians have done to them. It is time for Christians to offer support without conditions.
24. Pius XII
Alan ,   Newcastle   (11.02.06)
It is very sad you have said these things because they are very far from the truth. Pius XII and Pius XI did their best to save the Jews from the Nazis. Pius XII probably saved more Jewish lives than any other individual or head of state. Pius XI spoke out strongly against the Nazis but Pius XII was only elected in 1939 and he knew more people would die in the reprisals if he attaacked them in war-time so he concentrated on practical help. The people who attack him now are dissenting Catholics who dislike his theology and lie about him for this reason. The originator of the attack is a holocaust denier. Please investigate the historical record for yourself.
25. Pius: "Be proud to be a Jew"
Thomas Szyszkiewicz ,   Peterson, MN, USA   (11.02.06)
It's obvious none here have read what Inside the Vatican has reported finding in the pages of the Palestine Post (predecessor of the Jerusalem Post). If you look here, http://jic.tau.ac.il/Default/Skins/PalestineP/Client.asp?Skin=PalestineP&GZ=T&AppName=2&AW=1162475671796 in the April 29, 1944 edition, page 6, you'll find a fascinating article by a Jewish refugee about a 1941 audience he had with Pius XII and what the Pope told him. In short, Pius said, pleasantly, loudly, clearly and in front of German soldiers, "My son, whether you are worthier than others only the Lord knows, but believe me, you are at least as worthy as every other human being that lives on our earth! And now, my Jewish friend, go with the protection of the Lord, and never forget, you must always be proud to be a Jew!" Ah, yes, the silent Pope.

NO the "true" Christians want all the jews to be in israel and then 2/3 of the jews would die and 1/3 to be forcily to be coverted.. THATS NOT CARING its coverting
27. Ram, #20, shut up
Drumgoole ,   Newark NJ   (11.02.06)
Who were the Jews who could have saved Jesus? Was it Manny, Moe, or Jack? Or was it Chaim or Moshe? What the hell are you talking about? The Romans were in charge and they had already crucified thousands of other Jews and no one could save them. Promint Rabbis were burned to death with the Torah wrapped around them. As far as The Roman persecution of Christians, I agree it was horrible but if you knew your facts, You would have realized that during that time period, the Jews had been expelled, their Temple destroyed, and they had no power to save Christians. In contrast, Pope Pius had power. He also permitted the refusal of Christians to return Jewish children who had been baptized to surviving relatives of the Holocaust. Whether he was an antisemite or just didn't care enough or have the courage to issue a proclamation against genocide which would have excommunicated any Catholic who took part in the murder, we'll never know. Anyway you look at it, he does not deserve to be regarded as a Saint.
