1. gay march
chaim ,   miami beach USA   (11.02.06)
My personal views of the forces behind the controversy of the planned Gay Pride march through Jerusalem is in the interest of public safety it is appropriate to deny them a permit and such denial is well within the rules governing democracy. I have yet to see any of the opposition for the gays to march in Jerusalem deny the Gay oriented community of their life style, choice of partners, or to advocate a denial of their personal rights as citizens. The argument that under the doctrine of free speech freedom of expression the right to march if it is against public safety can and should be denied, by the gay community utilizing the notion of freedom of expression allows them to forcibly parade against the public sensitivities of their lifestyle which runs contrary through a city that its inhabitance are diametrically opposed to is unjustified, it reminds me of a similar situation that occurred in United Sates also a leading proponent of safe guarding personal freedoms non the less even against the ACLU opposition denied the rights of Neo Nazis to obtain a permit to hold a parade or publicly march through a suburb of Chicago named as Skokie Illinois, the end result was for the sake of maintaining public order such permit was denied.
2. Pogrom in Meah Shearim!
Dovy ,   Toronto   (11.01.06)
Water cannons shooting blue water all over Mea Shearim. Hundreds of police with horses. They are damaging houses and synagogues. Gevalt!!
3. we have the right to express ourself as part of our freedom
israeli gay ,   israel   (11.01.06)
4. Don't give in to religious terrorists
Natasha ,   London   (11.01.06)
I hope that the parade goes ahead. If not it will be a victory for narrow-minded, religious fanatics who want to enforce their will on others. Jerusalem is holy for all Jews, gay and straight. Let them march and show the world that minority groups have rights and freedom in Israel's capital city.
5. They're a bunch of fascist morons, except...
Michael Steiner   (11.01.06)
...they're not the Orthodox (datim) but ultra-orthodox (kharedim). Please observe this distinction, YNet.
6. Israeli gays being rude and stupid, for what purpose?
Bunnie Meyer ,   Santa Monica,CA USA   (11.02.06)
7. Cancel the parade
Josh   (11.02.06)
8. #4 - you're right Natasha - this riot is conducted by....
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (11.02.06)
disgusting people. We will have the march in our capital that we are entitled to have - Jerusalem belongs to all of us. Caving in to terrorists is the worst example. May the detainees stay locked up for a long time.
9. If this was Paris
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (11.02.06)
The police would be throwing them flowers and the government would beg for terms of surrender.
10. CANCEL THIS DUMB PARADE! IT'S DUMB! REALLY DUMB!
(11.02.06)
11. If only they cared about Israel
malcolm   (11.02.06)
If these lunatics really cared about Israel they would have marched by the tens of thousands and converged on the Knesset demanding that the TRAITORS resign. But as usual, the only thing that unites haredim is their OBSESSION with sex.
12. Orthodox riot against pride parade, again
gabriela ben ari ,   jerusalem   (11.02.06)
and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again until parading gays will get the point that they have no right to insult jerusalemites
13. who knew there were reform jews running around with payos
sam ,   jerusalem   (11.02.06)
its a shame they dont protest for women who get beat by their wives in that fashion if they did i would take them more seriously otherwise they are picking and choosing which laws are of importance which is what they complain about when they refer to Reform jews who knew there were reform jews running around with payos????
14. Please cancel the parade
J ,   UK   (11.02.06)
Jerusalem is the holy city
15. chaim (1) doesn't know much about American history
sk ,   USA   (11.02.06)
You are WRONG Chaim. The Nazis DID march in Skokie. That's because America is not a banana republic like Israel. By the way, most Jews do *not* think that man-on-man action is necessarily against Torah (most Jews are not Orthodox), and many Jews would agree that Jews should have the right to march in Jerusalem. Nobody, however, denies that the Nazi march was vile and deliberately targeted that the Holocaust survivers in Skokie. America survived a much tougher test than Israel.
16. religion stronger than democracy ?
Hiram ,   Oslo   (11.02.06)
Regardless of religious beliefs, a real democracy must allow all of its citizen to express whatever they need or want. Cancelling the Gay Pride under religious pressure will bring Israel back to the status of a standard " arab country" in which , in the name of Islam ( and often under the cover of the Muslim Brotherhood) homosexuality is not tolerated ( just like in the bible ) . This demonstrate de lack of tolerance of the " religious marginal fringe" and is a step back for the country. No wonder that with such allies in all the successive governments, we have screwed up so many things. We are on the way back to obscurantism of the 15th century. When will witches be burnt along with books that do not reflect orthodoxy ?
17. #13 say what???
(11.02.06)
I couldn't understand what you're trying to say.
18. This is BEYOND MORONIC.....
Meira ,   Haifa, Israel   (11.02.06)
It is completely irrelevant to me and none of my business what anyone's sexual preference is - but - Have the dignity and the decency to keep it behind closed doors where it belongs and where all things of such a personal nature belong. The promoters and the participants of the gay parade try to tell me that if they are not allowed to have their parade...if anyone is against them having their parade...then I am against freedom and human rights. What Nonsense! If the promotors of this parade had one degree of compassion, they would end this madness now and withdraw their petition to have this parade in Jerusalem or anywhere in Israel. What is wrong with them? We have just gone through a war in the North and the residents of the South endure daily rocket attacks. We face an existential threat from Iran, Hizbullah and Hamas and these people divert one moment of attention away to the real SURVIVAL issues our country faces and divert the attention of our police and border patrol and security forces to protecting them in their folly. This is BEYOND MORONIC.....
19. Both sides are wrong.
Bracha ,   Jerusalem, IL   (11.02.06)
I saw the mea shearim protests, i live right down the street. It's a chillul H' what they did, people , secular Jews were disgusted by it...which is desecrating what they're trying to uphold. However, it is wrong to do this parade ---it serves no constructive purpose. If you want to express yourself in these manners, do it in the privacy of your own home, not in the streets of eer hakodesh.
20. Perverted Orthodox
Peter ,   Israel   (11.02.06)
In a recent poll 38 percent of Israeli's claimed that they hate the so called fervently orthodox. By the time the parade's date arrives it will be 50 percent. The taxes I pay, support these good for nothings and it is my city just as much as anyones. The march should go ahead, yes definitely.
21. The parade must go ahead
Alexis ,   London UK   (11.02.06)
I am Orthodox myself but I am sickened by these attempts to stop the parade through violence. If nothing else the parade must go ahead simply to show the chareidi leadership that they cannot intimidate other Israelis in this way.
22. G-D's love
Mordey Cohen ,   Sydney Australia   (11.02.06)
There is an argument being made that G-D loves everyone, and therefore, gays should have the right to parade in Jerusalem. I dont disagree with the fact that G-D loves all of us, however, it still does not make it right, at forbiden in the Torah, which was given by G-D. A small coment here, will not explain why, but if you would like, you could email me mordey5765@gmail.com and we could discuss it.
23. The Law Shall go forth
seekfirstthekingdom ,   Ar USA   (11.02.06)
Lo, J...#14, truly it is the set apart city, that will, in the near future be where the Law will flow out from at the coming Divine Ruler, Incline your ears to Torah...all need to be anxious to determaine all things in accordance to the Law of the Almighty rather than the opinions or traditions of any mere man or woman. We are to walk (not parade ourselves) in a set apart way not in an abominable way. It is thru the true Law that real freedom comes...
24. Gay Parade
Yitzhak ,   Jerusalem Straight   (11.02.06)
The Rainbow will not protect your abominable acts. Gay = Disease
25. Gay Parade
Anti Gay ,   Sodom Gomorah   (11.02.06)
Read the Bible and WAKE UP!
26. PLEASE CANCEL PARADE!
Michael U ,   SF,CA   (11.02.06)
I am getting excited that the parade just might actually be cancelled G-D WILLING! I have been praying and praying and asking everyone I know to pray that this abomination parade doesn't take place in Jerusalem, the holiest city in the world. How dare the sinners claim that they have a right to desecrate the holy land... Shame on them and on their families...
27. Since when is a prevision a source of Pride?
John Cupp ,   Chiloquin Oregon   (11.02.06)
In the convoluted insane world where courts meet out supposed justice, why should normal citizens be exposed to a perverted lifestyle? It is not enough that this grossly Hellenistic group is even allowed to have an office, supported by tax dollars that are subsidized by the USA where I live. They are not parading per se” they are shamelessly flaunting what is an immoral victory by corrupt courts and police. A city too fearful of a law suit to throw these perverts out on their sick degenerate asses! A majority of the people do not want or need this openly narcissistic display of wanton depravity and perversion. As has been pointed out this would not be allowed in Mecca or the Vatican not matter how vociferously it was condemned as anti gay. Yes, I am anti gay and proud of it. Why should the good people of the holiest site on earth be impinged upon by a salacious group of sexual deviants only interested in corrupting Israel’s morals and youth? No this is no run of the mill parade, it is an open pustule exposing the degenerate underside of sexual deviance. Who needs that? A parade is supposed to show kids and clowns not dykes on bikes or Mambla proponents! It is supposed to display social norms not the worst of anti social hedonism that has no conscience or limits to its perversions. Faux sex acts, exposure so explicate it is only meant for private viewing, and gangs of child molesters taking on the vein of happy festival goers. A normally stoic religious community ready to burst at the seams into murderous mod of righteous indignation! Why have something so polarizing in Jerusalem? Why, because if they can do it their obsessive compulsive ideology can finally be given no limits! Resist fair people of Jerusalem, resist this creeping evil that threatens your personal relationship with your Creator!
28. #4 Don't be a twit Natasha
Matt ,   Denver, CO ISA   (11.02.06)
First-burning trash cans hardly reaches the level of terrorism let alone a riot. Second-Access to Judaism's holiest city and sites is not denied to anyone...they have the same right to visit and worship as anyone. However, a gay march in Jerusalem is a deliberate affront to the Jewish religion, the city of Jerusalem and Jews everywhere. If being Jewish is central to your life, good...visit the Kotel and pray. If being gay is central to your life...go to San Francisco or Amterdam.
29. #3 - No such right for evil
Josh   (11.02.06)
You have no right to disrupt peoples lives and sell your wares. That's what this is all about and it infringes on others rights to peace from subversion of norms. People have a right to peacefully enjoy the fact that they are heterosexual without you "expressing" to their community how proud gays are. Maybe they want their sons and daughters to experience the normal life and keep them away from the concept that if they can find a regular spouse, their partners can be obtained from other deviants of the same sex. What an unsecure thing to do. Gays need some self esteme and they think parading around gives it to them. If once a year running up and down the streets is what gays need for self esteem, they might think about trying to be heterosexual, as hetro's have enough self esteem as not to need a parade for self worth and pride. What is it that leaves gays so unproud that they need a parade to show that they are? Clearly they are not. Maybe it is the guilt of sin.
30. #4 - 8 - Narrow minded?
Josh   (11.02.06)
Their is no one so narrow minded as a biggot. It is the gays forcing their opinions where they are not wanted. No one is so more narrow minded as when they go with the predominate view and reject those who view the world from a different perspective. Grunion should not criticize dolphins. As it states in the Torah in the end evil will be looked upon as good and good will be looked upon as evil. How can you treat those who love the creator and the intended mating with such disrespect while championing a parade that is about sex orientation. People should stop and think about what your personal views are and stop going with the BS/PC flow as it is so narrow minded as thinking everyone should convert to this point of view of accepting all even if you personally find it wrong. Also, do women realize that gay men want to convert their potential husbands thus eliminating family and children?
